Everything about The Library was great. From the moment we arrived till when we left, there was nothing bad I can say about the dinner. The restaurant staff was very attentive and the food was stellar. It’s definitely one of our favorite restaurants.

Food was cold. Overall too expensive for value. The ambiance is nice. And service is good.

Great food and drink, especially before Theater.
Smart idea for The PUBLIC to have this restaurant

This was a pretheater dinner. The food and service were very good but the portions are rather small. If not for the member discount, it would be something of a rip-off.

We always try to have dinner at the Library before we go to theater at the Public Theater. A real jewel!

We really enjoyed the library. We had Public Theater tkts so going to The Library beforehand was a treat! Everything was just right. The food was good, nothing fancy. I had the shrimp tacos which were good & the kale salad which was large and good! The service was attentive & the ambience was delightful. All good. We will go back when it’s time to go to the Public Theater again.

Attentive service, very good food, great atmosphere. Our server rushed us a little, otherwise excellent. Warm apple pie delicious as was the beet salad and shrimp tacos.

First time here before seeing a play at Public Theater (it's in the building). A very nice experience--lovely, quiet atmosphere, attentive service, and got us out before the play began. It's somewhat pricey but worth it. Nice date place.

Love the ambiance. The books on the bookshelves that line the walls are very quaint. My friends and I were there for a three birthday celebration. Our server was accommodating, courteous, professional and friendly. I had the whole trout, filleted. It was simple but tasty.
The apple crumb I had for dessert had too much liquid however delicious. All in all we had a wonderful time.

I would only recommend, if you are seeing something at the Public Theater because it is in the same building. Food is not very good, but makes for a relaxed and convenient diner/ theater evening.

The Library at The Public Theater is as special as well liked restaurants at major NYC museums and music venues. It is a boon for people attending one of The Public's theaters with a 20% discount for Public Members. Reservations are helpful for pre-theater dining. Staff are friendly, efficient and understand their customers, many of whom are older. Good mixed drinks. Reasonably priced wines. Creative menu. An appetizer and dessert can make a nice meal.
Restaurant is popular enough that people come after the pre-performance diners have left.

We have been to The Library many times as we go to the Public Theater often and this is both a very good restaurant and very convenient to the Theater. As we have noted on a couple of recent occasions the new menu was an improvement. Guess what - it is time to update the menu particularly for those of us that go there frequently enough to have sampled most if not all of the various dishes. A minor complain but perhaps as we (finally) slide into spring the menu might do with some attention

The tables were so close together, the backs of the chairs were against the adjoining table. I have been to this restaurant several times previously, but they had somehow changed the seating. They have very large chairs that just don't work with the tables being so tight together.
Our food was late in coming. It will be a long time if ever before I return.

The Library has lovely food (Andrew Carmellini always worth eating with), excellent cocktails, excellent wines, excellent service. No need to elaborate - just a pleasurable experience all around.

The food is good but there are very few vegetarian options. The service was okay but not especially attentive and the hostess sent us to the wrong theatre when we asked where the Newman was. The room is lovely and the noise level is mellow which is rare these days.
The prices are high but with the Public membership discount they were okay.

We have dined at The Library many times. This most-recent visit was not as good as it has been on all past visits. In particular for a main course I do NOT recommend the sticky BBQ ribs. The cut of meat is fine but I did not like the Hoisin-style sauce with sesame seeds. Generally I like hoisin sauces but it simply does not go with ribs, in my opinion. The tagliatelle with pork ragu is a much better choice, and I would prefer their Joe's burger over the hoisin sauce on those ribs.

For dessert the gala apple crumble and chocolate walnut cake are good choices. The soft serve ice cream doesn't have too much taste.

The tables for two are rather small, and some of them are very closely spaced.

Service was very good. They generally have some very good bread to accompany the meal although you will only get it if you ask for it!

Eating at The Library at the Public and then going to a play is a beautiful way to spend an evening. The food is good, the service is good, the ambience is beautiful, and they get you out just in time to make your curtain.
A wonderful night.

The Morracan Chicken was awesome to the taste buds. Seasoned just right and such a treat to my palate. Salad was very generous and splitting it was a great choice. We even had time to try the delectable Apple crumble. Delicious! A great spot to have a meal with immediate access to the Public Theater. They are sensitive to time and notate the performance to allow you to enjoy dining and not waste time waiting for service.

What a delightful surprise. It was a cold not so nice March day and we had tickets for a show at the Public. Decided to try the Library because it was convenient. We thought it was great! It is cosy and welcoming- the menu has plenty of interesting choices and the food was excellent. We both had chicken tagine which was really good as was the salad that preceeded it! We will be back!

Very good food and friendly and quick service for the theater. Tasty cocktails. Only ding I have is no bread for the table (I'm old-fashioned, plus for the prices...). Worth going to even if you're not seeing a show at the Public.

My brother and I had a wonderful time catching up here on a storm night. It wasn’t busy, very cozy and warm, food - excellent, especially the finger-licking good flourless chocolate walnut cake. Sharing two appetizers, an entree and a dessert ended up quite filling. Burrata with spaghetti squash was very good, as was the trout. They don’t have an espresso machine, but everything else was better than expected!

We always enjoy The Library, for pre-theater dining at The Public Theater.

Try the lobster rolls (get one per person) and calamari (packs a bit of a kick with the peppers) starters. The Tagliatelle with Pork Ragù & Piave Cheese is a great tasty filling dish. We also enjoyed the apple crumble and chocolate walnut cake for dessert. The draft Greenport Harbor Black Duck Porter is a great dark beer!

Plenty of empty tables around us so we were surprised how slow service was. Took over half an hour from ordering a bottle of wine to having it brought to us to drink. My husband and I shared the mussels and fries as an appetizer. Fries were delicious and warm but the mussels were served at room temperature and devoid of flavor. For a main course, we each had the trout with lentils which was perfectly cooked and delicious. Unfortunately, it arrived 45 minutes after our appetizer being cleared despite ordering both courses at the same time. Seems like the kitchen staff and servers need to get their act together to charge the prices that they do!

This is a very good solution to eating before or after the Public Theater productions. The menu is not very adventurous but is very adequate and reasonably priced if a little on the higher side of that. Service and ambivalence are very pleasant.
