The Liberty Tavern
What Insiders Are Saying
Liberty Tavern is Clarendon’s utility restaurant - use the American spot for dates, dinner with the parents, or a meal at the bar.
Drink refills are few and far between every time I come here. Food isn’t bad and atmosphere is good.
Ari is outstanding as the Manager. He motivates the staff effectively. His stamp on all aspects of the restaurant makes Liberty Tavern my favorite go to neighborhood restaurant.
Food was yummy. Desserts need improvement: Maybe less choices and higher quality. See Season's 52 for inspiration.
Service is friendly, but spotty.
A nice restaurant with a excellent serving staff. Had the steak sandwich. It was good. Mixed drink of a moderate portion and good. Pretty noisy on the second floor dining room, with noise coming up loudly from the bar area. Otherwise a very nice venue. Best attribute was the table service. Excellent waiter!
Very bad experience, there was send in the octopus and the burger was soggy, overcooked and greasy
Was our first time, was ok but, not outstanding like all reviews describe, I guess I expected to much.
Since we were in a hurry to make an evening engagement, we opted for bar food instead of the restaurant. We managed a nice relaxing casual dinner thanks to the excellent service. A little loud down there, but we enjoyed our food, our evening, and made our engagement with time to spare.
Amazing food and service. Only thing I would recommend is having an upstairs bathroom so diners don’t have to push through the bar crowds to use the restroom.
We went there for lunch to celebrate my husband's birthday with a friend. Since our friend had only a hour for lunch we order promptly. We got there around noon and were seated at the table in the middle between the kitchen area, elevator and the bank of tables. Because of our location, it was rather noisy and people were constantly moving around our table. She ordered the burger which looked perfectly cooked. I order the fried cod sandwich & fries and my husband had the fried chicken sandwich & potatoes salad. We have been here several times for brunch but never for lunch. The food was rather disappointing. The fried items were too greasy, especially my fish which fell apart and very anemic looking. The fries taste old like it's been sitting around. My husband noted that his chicken was greasy as well and the potato salad was bland. The pana cotta dessert however was delicious.
The breakfast pizza was huge, but really good. The French toast was also tasty.
Liberty Tavern is a place that always delivers. Their food and service is always top notch and we love celebrating special occasions, family dinners, or just the occasional happy hour at there. Our family loves liberty Tavern and every meal is always exceptional.
I would recommend arriving around 10 or 1030 to beat the 11am rush. The brunch was delicious. We sat outside and 3 out of the 4 adults of our party participated in the buffet (+1 baby +1puppy.) I liked that we had that flexibility, many of brunch places will force the entire party to participate. You do have to go upstairs for buffet food but it was worth it. $23 is very reasonable for the variety of food. I actually didnt even go to the desert table. The french toast and fried chicken were delicious. We sat outside which I think was much better than sitting inside as it as very loud indoors. Wait staff was reasonably attentive and I would definitely return. This is my first time at the Arlington location. I've visited the DC spot twice and I've never been disappointed.
Diverse selection of really well prepared and tasty brunch items. Service was friendly and attentive. Don't miss brunch here.
We didn’t get to hear about the restaurant week specials until 15 minuets after we got our menus. It changed the groups thoughts for our order and took us longer to decide what we wanted.
Food Very Good to Excellent, all enjoyed their meals. Service Average, not bad, met minimum expectations. Overall experience was extremely disappointing due to temperature of dining room. Only learned after meal in process that AC was broken. Mentioned disappointment to host as left and they didn’t seem concerned, only offered explanation that AC broken.
We actually cooled off when we went outside in to 80 degree weather. New to area so first time visit. Will also be our last due to this experience. Enjoyed food so much had potential to become a go to place.
We could have been told about issue before seating, too concerned about turning tables vs customer experience.
Everything was great, every dish we tried was excellent!
3 couples went to your restaurant. We sat upstairs at a round table. Our waiter was great. 3 of us went for the fried chicken special, 2 for sword fish, and 1 for pasta. The food was very good. Our waiter was great. We did go kind of early, 6pm on a Monday, but that worked for us.
Sunday brunch buffet had good amount of choices and was tasty. Service staff was very nice and attentive. Seating was a little tight.
I was heartwarmed when I noticed there staff catering to people that needed special assistance. They helped a few blind patrons to grab food from their amazing brunch buffet. I will continue to support this establishment not just for their amazing brunch but also their amazing heart.
ALWAYS enjoy the brunch. There is such a wide variety of food. Something for everyone.
The food was good, though a bit overpriced. The server was wonderful in accommodating us, especially with a small child and a friend who was late.
As always, the food was amazing along with the service! Liberty Tavern continues to be our favorite date night spot!
I’ve been here many times with great experiences. Yesterday, the service was either slow or non-existent for some reason.
Nice wine list and attentive service.
Been here several times. Never disappoints. Brunch was crazy good. This time was just a quick casual diner. Fried chicken. Boom
Great meal for a date. Upstairs is more quiet better for a date or family dinner. Downstairs is more of a bar scene with high tops. Great food at reasonable prices
We head over to Liberty Tavern's brunch pretty regularly because the buffet is always excellent. However, on our most recent visit, one decided to skip the buffet and order from the menu. The sirloin steak she received was not hot and the potatoes tasted as if they had been under the heat lamp for awhile. Also, the service - which is usually excellent - was a tad slow. They were very busy that day and perhaps the kitchen was more focused on replenishing the buffet than on turning out individual orders.
I love this place both for brunch and dinner. The food is excellent every time I go. The value for the brunch far surpasses anything in the area and it’s great for adults and kids alike. This is my go to spot for brunch!
A friend and I went to the Liberty Tavern Sunday Brunch Buffet, which is typically very solid. While the food met our expectations, our particular server was very poor. On multiple occasions we had to put in requests via the busboys for coffee refills and even the check. Our check with the payment disappeared for the longest time and we had to make sure our credit cards were actually coming back to the table. Food was solid, the standouts are the deviled eggs and the mac n cheese. An otherwise good experience spoiled by subpar service.
Keith was an awesome server. Food was great... particularly liked the Salmon!
Freezing, loud, terrible service and over priced food. We sat upstairs, I think the lower level is probably better. I have a dairy allergy so I asked if the chicken and potatoes were cooked in butter - the waiter looked at my like I was crazy and was like “yeah okay no butter I guess”. Excuse me? It took him 40 minutes to take our order and we had to flag him down. He never came back again until we flagged him down 30 minutes after our plates had been cleared. He was rude all night. The food was good though. It’s a much better happy hour spot than dinner location
This restaurant was recommended to me by some locals and they were 100% right. Great, scratch made food combined with top notch service meant it was a hit.
Great food - one of best pizzas around. Only drawback is price, but it is Arlington afterall...none the less, it is a go-to place for us.
Their food was very good except a little bit salty. Their wine didn't meet our expectations. (We ordered one from Washington and one from California.)
From New York and make it a point to eat here every time I’m in town.
The Liberty Tavern is awesome. I am new to the area, and will definitely become a regular at this restaurant. I went there first with a group of my friends, who also loved the Sunday brunch as well as the cheese pizza. I went again for my boyfriend's 21st birthday yesterday and the service was awesome. The food is great and there is a huge variety for a $22 buffet.
As a person with food sensitivities, I have a difficult time finding restaurants that can accommodate my limitations. At Liberty I was able to enjoy a delicious meal that met my restrictions, and a pleasant evening with family and friends. I also like the upstairs dining room that allows for conversation at a normal level.
The food was great and our waitress was wonderful. Very accommodating!
The food is solid. Downstairs is very loud, but upstairs you can have a decent conversation. I ordered the tuna burger without a bun and it came with, and it also costs to change sides from fries to anything healthier, so both of those are issues for me, but the drink I had was delicious.
