Liberty Tavern is Clarendon’s utility restaurant - use the American spot for dates, dinner with the parents, or a meal at the bar.
Food was great, service was great. My only complaint is that the restaurant tries to fit too many people in too small a space.
My appetizer of lamb ribs were all fat. I only had two bites of meat I could find. The server told us at the end if we could hurry up after he dropped the check off because there was a large party waiting to fill the tables along the wall.
The food and service here is always consistent. Consistently good. It doesn't matter if you go for Sunday Brunch, a work-week lunch or dinner with a date or the kids. My kids beg to go to the brunch for special occasions. They have a good kids menu and plenty on the regular menu that works for younger palates. The wait staff is friendly and actually speaks to the kids. In all the years I have been going I have never had a bad meal or a bad experience. Some might think it is a little pricey for taking the kids along, but it really is the best of both worlds - you get a nice meal and the kids do too.
Met friends and staff was very accommodating as we arrived at different times. Very good octopus and wine. Somewhat noisy like all Arlington restaurants, although it may have been more quiet upstairs.
I wanted to show off an Arlington restaurant of good repuetation to world-traveled visitors from Texas. The food was disappointing and I am embarrassed for having brought them there.
Food was very good. Plates cleared promptly when going for seconds. Never felt rushed. Brunch price is very reasonable. I'd definitely go for brunch again.
Food was good not stellar. 1 of the 3 entrees was excellent (skirt steak), 1 was good (pasta) and 1 was fair (pork chop was tough). I've had better food there before. Great menu though. Apps we're excellent. Wine and beer lusts excellent. I'll return though because I've experienced better before.
Great food, drink and service! From the servers, bartenders, server assistants and management, this place is great! Atmosphere is perfect for groups. Loved the octopus and the draft beer selections!
As always, the food was fantastic and incredibly fresh. I had the beet and roasted carrot salad, which also had yogurt -- I think -- and quinoa. It was superb. I'm vegetarian so entre options are usually limited to 1 or 2 things - usually a pasta of some sort. But, you never feel as though you are settling. I had the half-portion of gnocchi with vegetables. The portions are huge. I didn't even finish the half portion, but it was flavorful, rich and very satisfying. This is a go to place when guests are in town and you want something solid, sophisticated, but also down to earth.
Normally when you have a large party you have to wait for a table. That was not the case at least not for long. We arrived early, was seated downstairs briefly, ordered drinks which were taken upstairs to our table. Our waiter was johnny on the spot, Wilson, you out did yourself.
We had GREAT Food, Company and Service. Wilson you are a GEM!
We all left happy and vowing to return......
Plenty of food for the Brunch Table! Definitely a good price at just $23 for an all you can eat buffet with mussels, lots of beats, breakfast french toast, pizza, salads, fresh fruits, pastries, yogurt parfaits and a lot of other stuff! Service was excellent. The servers were attentive, refilled water when appropriate and took away our plates quickly. Overall would recommend again.
As always the food was great, I left feeling full and happy. The service could have been a bit better; despite making a reservation we had to wait a bit before being seated. Overall, great experience.
For brunch, my wife ordered off the menu instead of the buffet. Her order must have gotten lost in the kitchen. After 20 minutes she had to ask our waitress (at the bar) to check on the order.
Go on Monday for the chicken special!!
We have dined at Liberty Tavern several times in the past and the food was very good. We must have hit an off night. My salad was wilted and obviously pre-prepared; the grilled chicken on it was fatty and chewy (I had to spit out a couple of pieces that were just gristle). My husband’s pork shank also was very fatty and not heated all the way through - like it was microwaved but not enough. Service is wonderful. We will give it another try because this experience was so different than our other times here, but this time was a big disappointment.
My aunt came from out of town for lunch with me and my mom. When we arrived for Sunday brunch the buffet looked incredible, and it did not disappoint. Some standout dishes include the southern deviled eggs, baked mac and cheese, and the mussels in tomato sauce. They were both extremely pleased with my decision and we all left full!
Sadly the food was disappointing. We had the pork shank and the pasta. Neither of which were tasty.
Server became snippy when we asked for sep checks.
The food was excellent and a great variety. This was our first time and our server (Andrew?) went out of his way to make us welcome and feel at home. We will definitely be back.
Great brunch! Dinner and lunch are good too but brunch is a favorite. Outdoor seating is comfortable and not quite as loud. Great experience!
Meal was just OK -- artic char had too much going on and was a little overcooked so it was more dry and chewy than it should be. Pesto sauce was good but pasta was a little overcooked so was not firm and the chicken sausage in the sauce was bland and had an unusual texture. Dining room noise was high -- difficult to hear the person across the table. Service was good at first but became less attentive as the restaurant became more crowded. We had to flag down a different waiter to give our dessert order after waiting for an extended time.
Outstanding burger (paying extra for tomato was ridiculous though). Fantastic side salad in lieu of french fries. Companions enjoyed their meals as well (tuna burger), although pasta dish was quite salty. Staircase is a little too dark -- safety issue.
Food was okay but not a huge buffet. Not a typical brunch buffet, biscuits and gravy were not traditional sausage and gravy. Sausage patties were dry, bacon overcooked, French toast okay. Several of the dishes had onions and peppers. Not recommended if you like traditional breakfast food or have picky eaters
Great food, excellent service, will definitely go there again.
LT had been in our rotation of regularly frequented restaurants until our last experience. We were unceremoniously told by our waiter that we needed to leave so that other diners could be seated. The bus staff were wiping down the table before my wife even had a chance to get up and put on her coat. Some kind of warning would have been appropriate and appreciated. All in all, a very disappointing conclusion to what had been our usual good meal. To add insult to injury, five tables were vacant and there were only two groups waiting. They could have handled it so much better.
Met up with a friend for brunch and we had a lovely time! We did not do the buffet, but the options looked good. Service was excellent even though they were very busy, we were very impressed. A little pricey, but that's to be expected in Clarendon. Overall a great experience!
Music was too loud
Waitress did a fabulous job catering to our party of 13, all with separate checks. Also host was wonderful in finding us a table outside to fit us.
There we six of us. Everyone loved their food and the price was reasonable. If only parking were a little easier.
I like the look & experience of this restaurant. The menu is nice & varied. They make most everything in house including curing their own meats apparently. Apple blue cheese salad with fennel and walnuts was fresh & tasty. Side of crispy brussel sprouts was greasy & the aioli was a bit sour. But the reason I marked it down a grade was the pasta was so overcooked it was mushy. This was true for both the orecchiette and the mac & cheese. Otherwise the flavors were good. Good service.
We sat upstairs so the noise level was acceptable, downstairs very noisy. White wine came a little warm, but second glass after the bottle sat in the cooler was better. Fun meal.
Brunch was overrated and not value for money. Food and service was below average whilst price was high.
I can't believe how bad the was. My date and I ordered pizzas and first they got my order all mixed up but what was worse was that our pizzas were totally tasteless. I felt like I was eating cardboard. Their pizza ranked up there with the worst pizzas I have ever had. Liberty Tavern used to have decent food. Not anymore. Liberty Tavern, what's happened to you?
This family operated restaurant was terrific.
Had an excellent meal prior to a show at National Theatre. My wife, “every bite was an explosion of flavor! I’ve never said that before.” Likely becoming our regular stop on way to NATS Park. Service well done.
Great food, very good service. We were in and out pretty quickly which is needed for a business lunch.
Awesome Sunday Brunch
We’ve been going to Liberty for years and frankly the quality of the food has fallen off. There are some great items but we have found them inconsistent. For example the lamb ribs were a real treat the first time. However, when we ordered the “crispy” lamb ribs this time, they were swimming in a pool of liquid at the bottom of the bowl. The pizza was supposed to have broccoli rabe but came with plain broccoli. The table next to us complained to the waiter as well, “just tell us” you substituted plain broccoli, they are not the same thing! Overall, we are disappointed that a great neighborhood restaurant seems to be lost. Perhaps too much energy is going in to the new Northside in Falls Church and the Le Nora Bakery move. The Liberty needs a refresh in the kitchen.
Great restaurant. Had dinner with two other couples who also loved it. Brought other friends a few weeks ago, and they loved the food too. Service always excellent.
Service was good despite giving us the wrong drink order. Seating is very tight. Even though our reservation was for 4. We were seated in a tight location and told it was a booth when is was actually a banquette. We went in for Sunday Brunch. Price is decent. But food was just okay. Not sure I’d go back.
Have been to brunch several times. Highly recommend. The food is always good, as well as the service.
