The Liberty Tavern
What Insiders Are Saying
Liberty Tavern is Clarendon’s utility restaurant - use the American spot for dates, dinner with the parents, or a meal at the bar.
Great lunch buffet. Lots of choices and well stocked
I sat upstairs for the first time. I liked the room but it was close quarters and I could hear ALL the conversations!
Crispy lamb ribs were fantastic! Swordfish was excellent, too, although it was a bit of a small piece and was overwhelmed by the accoutrements (potatoes, wilted endive, tomatos -- all delicious). I took my Red wine chocolate cake home, so I'm not sure I got the full effect as it is served at the restaurant but it was also good.
Service was excellent -- I had time constraints and my server got me out on time.
Overall, a great experience and I'll be back!!
Great value for Restaurant Week. Entire menu is available for choices.
Service was exceptional - we sat quite awhile & no pressure to leave. I had a couple of questions about menu offerings, waiter was pleasant & got answers immediately. Great food. A bit noisier than we would have preferred.
Met friends for brunch on the weekend because a weekday lunch was excellent. The waiter claimed they didn’t have certain types of espresso drinks, although we’d had them during the week. Refills were hysterical—waiter put half a cup of coffee in my mug, told me he’d go get more, and came back a half hour later. I literally could’ve walked to Peete’s two blocks away and back quicker. My omelette was burned and they tried to hide it by putting it in the fold instead of the outside. My partner’s pizza was good, but ridiculously high priced for what was received. Seems like they want to maximize their margin by forcing customers to their buffet. All in all, well below average outing. There are much better places for brunch.
The buffet was great! There were a few items that needed a little seasoning but overall very good. Service was okay. Everyone was very friendly but we had to ask for drinks a couple of times and waited a bit too long for cocktails and lattes.
good food and good service - i would return if in the area
Pleasantly surprised at the variety and tastefulness of the buffet brunch. My friend had mussels and she said they were great. I tried just about everything and all was very good, though I wish the gravy that goes with the biscuits was a little thicker. Unfortunately I was too full to try the desserts. Will definitely return.
Brunch Buffet area is a bit congested between people bringing food and people getting food. Otherwise I enjoy it very much.
Wilson was a great server, the restaurant was very accommodating for our large group.
Excellent service, great meals (steak, swordfish), provided taste of wine to help make good choices.
The service has always been superb and in particular enjoy special surprise appetizer the chef prepares.
Brunch buffet on January 1st was just what I needed! Everything was fantastic. I'll be back for sure.
Almost perfect. We had brunch buffet. Everything was delicious. The waiter split the check incorrectly and gave the drink to the wrong person in my group. We resolved the issue among ourselves.
We have been coming here since the restaurant opened, and have always loved it. We went for New Years Eve, and found that the food wasn’t as good as usual.
I was so excited to have the Lobster Fra Diavolo but it was SO spicy that it was almost inedible (and I LOVE spicy food and eat it frequently).
The octopus appetizer was just OK.
The drinks we had were excellent though!
Good food and service
Downstairs is a sports bar attractive to hyper-noisy millennials. For a quieter dnner - where you can easily talk with your fellow diners - sit upstairs.
During our last visit, the kitchen was so fast our food arrived almost before we ordered it.
Ari Valdez, the Manager, does and outstanding job training and motivating the responsive staff, the kitchen crew and ambiance of Liberty Tavern overall; the quality and high standards set from the very start; have been sustained and fresh menu items introduced from time to time. my go to place.
Delicious food and we were delighted to find a Uruguayan Tannat on the wine list! My husband had the fra diavolo which he said was fantastic, and I had the hangar steak which definitely hit the spot! We’d gone to Liberty Tavern for the brunch buffet several times but this was our first time heading there for dinner- what took us so long?!?
Tried this restaurant based on Yelp reviews!!
I don’t usually write bad reviews. But this place needs a chief intervention.
The food was average at best!!
The cook needs training.
The wings weren’t fully cooked and was covered in a sauce.ugh...
The lamb burger was dry and un-season , zero flavor. Worst lamb burger.
The short ribs and the risotto has no flavor.
I Was charged an extra $1.00 for piece lettuce. An extra $1.00 a slice of tomato
An extra $1.00 for jalapeños which I never received.
The lemonade tasted like tap water with too much lemon and not enough sugar.
GOD the food was just awful and I still have the waitress 18% tip because she was pleasant. Didn’t hold her responsible for the GOD awful subpar food.
My daughters ate their burgers because they were hungry.
We Just moved to Arlington, and seeing that it’s the holiday and I have family in town, thought we’d try out some new restaurants on yelp.
This one gets 1 Star...
Food and drinks were great. Very noisy with extremely loud Christmas music seemingly competing for attention over the loud voices of the patrons.
Had 6pm reservation and there was no table ready and the host was not in the least bit concerned. 30 minutes later we went to bar got seats and our dinner with a great bartender. Food over cooked
This was our first time dining at Liberty Tavern. Loved the location and the atmosphere. There was a big party in there when we were there and as a result our service was slow. My dinner was not hot. I loved the menu and the environment as well as the attitude of the servers so I would give it a second chance.
Good food, impeccable service, great ambiance, in what is undeniably a popular, happening place very near the Clarendon metro and with ample parking garages in this teeming, night spot area.
Place was empty but parties were packed together for server convenience it seems. No sauces for a steak salad were given or known of. Post-lunch fare was not offered by the servers though the place remained empty. Have a 20% tip for the holidays but we will not be back.
Great food, great service, great environment...Makes for a great meal. I love going to Liberty Tavern for lunch!
It has a very limited lunch menu -- basically sandwiches and pizza. I was looking for a bit more.
Took family here for Sunday Brunch and everyone was impressed! Many options to choose from but I thought the buffet option for 23.95 was worth the value and some. Definitely recommend! We had to wait a bit for our table (not too long by any means) so the hostess offered us complimentary mimosas. My parents are not normally fans but loved theirs.
Excellent meal, best I have had in a while. Hanger steak was outstanding, melt in your mouth!
The food quality and choice for Bruch was fantastic. The price of the food and drinks were reasonable. Our server (Wilson) has zero personality and was mediocre at best. Other then that, we had a wonderful experience.
Love the Sunday brunch! Always filling and delicious.
We stopped going to LIberty Tavern after they changed management in 2013. Had heard the food had gone downhill. We decided to go back again for our Thanksgiving buffet (which we had done for 3 years in a row, pre-2013). Were pleased to see that the food was back to what we remembered--hearty, comforting, varied, delicious. With the exception of the dessert table which was lackluster, at best. Also best bargain in town. We shall be back LT. Thanks for a delicious thanksgiving--especially for us who do not like turkey.
I took my parents here for the Thanksgiving buffet in 2018. I had heard their brunch buffets were great, but was nervous about Thanksgiving because I couldn't find many reviews specific to that holiday buffet. I am a vegetarian, but my parents are not so I wanted a Thanksgiving buffet where we could all find something to eat, that was part classy/part cozy, but wouldn't break the bank. This was a hit and exactly what I wanted! The food was delicious. They served breakfast/brunch items early in the day and then transitioned to dinner items in the late afternoon, but served Thanksgiving food throughout the whole day. We arrived around 3:00, so were able to partake in the breakfast items first, then for our second round have the dinner items. The buffet was upstairs which is a small space and cramped, but this added to the festivities in my opinion. We chatted with those dining next to us, wishing each other Happy Thanksgiving. The food was great and presented beautifully. For such a small space, there were so many options, even for vegetarians. I greatly appreciated the hot apple cider that came with the meal. We all loved the food, everyone was stuffed, my parents raved about how perfect everything was. If you want Ritz-fancy, this isn't for you. But I felt the ambiance was perfect - cozy and warm decor, polite and cheerful staff, creative and delicious food. And the price was right - I don't remember exactly, but I think it was less than $35 per person. Kudos to the chef for putting together such a wonderful meal. And a big thank you to the entire staff who worked on Thanksgiving so I didn't have to serve my parents Tofurkey at home. I'd definitely return next Thanksgiving. Be sure to get reservations early!
Not as good as previous Thanksgiving dinners
We live in the neighborhood and come here on a regular basis. This was the most disappointing meal we have had here. Our waiter was not very good. He appeared to be unhappy about something and did not do a great job with us. The manager and other waiters picked up the slack which was nice. They also ran out of one of the dishes which is always surprising. However, the manager did give us an appetizer as a thank you and also came to our table when someone had cancelled the order for the dish we wanted. Overall the experience was fine but it didn't feel like the place was running as smoothly as it usually does.
I enjoyed the restaurant but my main course salad was bland and the chicken was dry.
Really appreciate the friendly, helpful staff ad the great food. Liberty Tavern has the best brunches in all of Arlington.
The brunch buffet on the weekend is great and very comprehensive. Anything you could want!
My fiancé and I love coming to Liberty Tavern for brunch. The buffet is amazing - tons of great options and they don't skimp on expensive items. (Last time we were there, they had mussels on the buffet and they were great.) They also always have one drink on the buffet - mulled cider when we were there last - and dessert. At $24, it's not cheap, but it feels more than worth it. I've seen other diners order brunch dishes off the menu, and they also look great - but are the same things as what's on the buffet, and why get one when you can get them all? My one complaint is the service, which can be inconsistent at brunch (and last time was really quite bad). But, I can handle mediocre service for a great buffet!
We have been a few times and sat downstairs at the bar. This time, we reserved upstairs at the restaurant. Very pleasant, easy and good tasty food from scratch. Service with a smile. We had a lovely meal.
