The service was way below usually high levels. Food came to the table before our initial drink orders arrived, so very little sense of sequence and timing of the dining experience. we specifically asked for a cast iron skillet cookie with three candles for three birthday honorees but the dish came with only one candle and the shortfall was acknowledged with a shrug — effectively, “oh well, sorry about that.”

Showed up early for our reservation and they was a 45 minute wait so we sat at the bar and the bartender (Sheryl) was absolutely amazing. By far the best brunch I have ever had and the people were amazing!

The food and service is exceptional! I highly recommend this restaurant for Sunday brunch. Be sure and ask to be seated in Ally’s section because she’s very attentive and informative. I plan on going back to the Liberty Tavern next month in celebration of my birthday.

Food was good (I had french toast, the other guest had ceasar salad) but the service was lousy! It took them more than 5 mins to get my a spoon for coffee, by which time my coffee was almost cold. Same thing for salt and pepper - my food was cold by the time it arrived. Even after asking for the check, we waited for at least 15 minutes, at which time we decided to go in and pay. We could have left without paying and no one would have cared?!

I've always enjoyed Liberty Tavern but this was my first visit for dinner in quite awhile. The menu has good variety and it was hard to choose! I also recommend visiting for brunch. Their buffet never disappoints.

Liberty Tavern remains a solid and consistent bet among the increasingly crowded Clarendon food scene. This time we were seated upstairs which provides a more sedate scene away from the cacophony that is their ground level bar. Still a little loud, but quite enough for a good conversation. The lamb ribs were well prepared and seasoned as were the main courses. Both the flank steak and chicken sausage pesto pasta dishes were very good and well worth the price.

Myself and 5 friends went for Thanksgiving Day dinner. It was a nice buffet, with plenty of traditional fare - including a carving station featuring roast beef, turkey breast, and honey ham. As with many Thanksgiving Day dinners, there is never enough gravy - as was the case here too. The only odd aspect in the restaurant was the lighting, which was on as bright as possible. We asked about the lighting and were told that per Health Dept regulations that the lighting had to be this bright when a buffet service is offered. Who knows? That's probably true, but it really took away from the ambiance. Comparatively, in the past when I have been there for dinner (ordering from the menu) the ambiance is quite inviting with much lower lighting and candles on every table. Would I go back for Thanksgiving Day dinner? No. Not that the food wasn't enjoyable, but I think I can find a more overall enjoyable (lower lighting, non-buffet) experience.

I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal there. I guess you could term many items on the menu comfort food. For example, they serve a terrific mac & cheese. But overall I would just term it very good food. It's a place you can take a friend for the first time and be certain they will find something on the menu they like.

As I am on the north side of 60, I prefer to eat upstairs where it's a bit quieter. Downstairs, with young professionals enjoying their sports & beer in a spirited manner, I can hardly understand what the person next to me is saying.

We had to wait 30 minutes beyond our reservation time on Thanksgiving, but I can't really hold that against them. And the manager bought us a round of drinks. They usually seat us promptly.

I highly recommend The Liberty Tavern.

I was there for the Thanksgiving buffet, which was excellent. The variety of food was incredible. I was delightfully surprised at how good everything was. This may become my new Thanksgiving tradition.

Fantastic Sunday brunch. Quality and variety of choices were outstanding. Loved the creamy unsweetened yogurt with granola and berry topping, the silky smoked salmon, the delicious non-greasy fried chicken, the terrific thin crust veggie pizza, the hand carved thyme turkey breast, the salad offerings, and the fudge-like chocolate mousse. This is an upscale brunch at a bargain price of $23. Also, we arrived at 1:45 and full selection was available until brunch ended at 3:30.

We love this restaurant and have enjoyed it in every season. I really hate how loud it is—we had a hard of hearing guest with us this last time and it was hard to talk. Service and food were excellent as always.

Always a great brunch, but it was SO cold in the upstairs dining room a number of our party didn't order drinks, simply because they were too cold to contemplate a cold beverage.

Good to come in here for an early dinner at best. It is a very crowded bar at night and your chances of being able to order food are slim to none. For dinner, their pizzas are amazzzzing and happy hour deals on drinks are pretty decent. Love the shrimp with prosciutto and arugula. Not a big fan of their brunch pizza menu, or their brunch buffet. The bartenders downstairs are friendly and the atmosphere is always upbeat. Best for bar hopping on a weekend night.

Though The Liberty Tavern is in our neighborhood, we hadn't been there in about a year. Fortunately, it really hasn't missed a step in that time. The Liberty Tavern continues to offer solid go-tos -- for example, The Tavern Burger -- and seasonal features. And as odd as it might be to focus on iced tea, The Liberty Tavern serves, hands down, the best fresh-brewed iced tea in just about anywhere.

An outstanding brunch spots just outside of D.C., The Liberty Tavern deftly balances the convenience of buffet style with high-quality and comforting options. You'll have to make a reservation on weekends, thanks OpenTable, and still be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes once you arrive. The only game they could step up is their desert options!

I had been for brunch several times but when I went last year, I found the quality of the food and desserts somehow had fallen off. That impression was reinforced on this most recent visit. Better off sticking to other meals that are still reliably good meals at affordable prices

Went for Sunday lunch and found out they were serving Sunday brunch. The brunch buffet spread was impressive, but both my husband and I decided we couldn’t eat enough to make it worth the price, especially not with a “mimosa” included. We ordered a la carte and had great burgers. The buffet was a great deal for our child who dubbed the sausage “outstanding.”

The night started with the server giving me a taste of three white wines to help me pick the one I liked best. Great way to begin! The wine I chose was very smooth. They moved us when it got too loud in our area. The food was good with generous portions.

This is one of our neighborhood dining spots with food that is consistently good and more reasonably priced. After going a bit more frequently this summer and fall, I think they need to increase their dinner salad options and vegetarian options. Also, while the decor is appealing, people talk so damn loud that the place becomes a difficult environment for friendly dinner conversations. Not sure what can be done about that but it is becoming problematic. Sound absorption tiles? Changing seating configurations?

Recently had my first meal at the Liberty Tavern in Clarendon. I will definitely be back! My friend had a freshly made vegetarian pizza, which looked great. Handmade thin crust, wood-fired. I had the rigatoni with meatballs which was one of the best pasta dishes I've had in quite a while. The sauce had a nice meld of spices and flavors, the meat was very tasty and the homemade pasta was cooked just right. We were able to have a nice conversation due to the low noise level.
