The Liberty Tavern
What Insiders Are Saying
Liberty Tavern is Clarendon’s utility restaurant - use the American spot for dates, dinner with the parents, or a meal at the bar.
Nice dinner, but there was only ONE vegetarian option available. This needs to be increased.
Huge portions. Wife had the steak sandwich and I had the shrimp and crab jalapeño pesto spaghetti. Both were delicious. And bonus ... wife could only handle half of her sandwich so I had lunch for the next day!
Great meal as always. Favorite plates are the pasta and meatballs and their pizzas.
Great place to meet for drink and light fare for a business meeting. Love the ambience. Was a bit loud hen we arrived/happy hour then quoted down. Enjoyed the appetizers/small plates of tuna carpaccio, especially and a pizza with several meats (prosciutto et al). Have been there before for lunch, first time at this hour. Will return!
We were VERY pleasantly surprised by the buffet and the amazing taste of everything.
Excellent service, good food. Not quiet and intimate, but fun, friendly and never a bad experience.
I live nearby and like to come here for brunch often. I have to say that I am very disappointed in the fact that their cappuccino machine seems to have been broken for at least two months now. We always request cappuccinos at brunch and are not planning to go back until we know the issue has been resolved. Besides that, the food and service were good.
I plan to take my brunch plans elsewhere for the time being.
Made brunch reservations for 2pm coming from a long, hot day in D.C. with family from NJ. Was expecting this to be a better selection and better quality of food for the price. Was seated right away upstairs near the buffet (which is of a few in the DMV that’s why I chose here, we like a variety) and the a/c was broke so very uncomfortable to sit and enjoy the food to it’s full extent.
The food and service were excellent but it was too hot. The air conditioning wasn’t keeping up with the demand.
Wonderful dinner, as always. Great food and they always make the perfect Old Fashioned.
The food and service were great. It’s a great neighborhood gem
This was not my first time at Liberty Tavern, but it was probably my last.
The food (octopus and tuna carpaccio appetizers, and halibut entree) were very mediocre. The service, too, was sub-par. In fact, the entree arrived long, long after we had been sitting, nursing our appetizers and wine--~will over an hour, about the time we were deciding that we no longer even wanted the entree and were getting up to leave. So when it came and the waiter apologized for the very long delay, I said that we no longer cared to have it. He took it away, but then brought it back ten minutes later. (Apparently, he had the kitchen "re-fire" it. He let it, we had it boxed to go, and we left.)
Food was pretty good - we had pizza and fries brussel sprouts. Our waiter was unfriendly but maybe it was an off night for him - we all have our days.
I usually enjoy Liberty a lot, but I went with a group of 4 and the service when sitting outside was horrendous
We had a wonderful graduation lunch celebration. The whole staff was very accommodating and the food delicious!
Sunday brunch was great. The all-you-can-eat buffet was quite good...and filling. Service was friendly. Restaurant was filled but we didn't feel cramped at all. Will return again soon.
Food was decent but service was very slow.
Went with my mom for her birthday. There was some sort of beach party thing going on in the bar so it was a bit louder than expected, but we could still talk upstairs.
Food was good, although my pasta had to be remade because they put cheese on it the first time despite being told that I'm extremely lactose intolerant, then tried to insist it was meat when I complained.
Other than that, no problems. The bread was nice and warm, my mother's pasta was a good size, and our waiter was cheerful and polite despite the party.
The food was really good, and the service was great! We really enjoyed our time there, and will probably come back in the near future!!
Basic eatery in Clarendon. Good spot for a burger or salad for lunch. Easy going, Popular
Great burger and wings. If you are looking to be able to have conversation during the meal, ask to be seated up stairs. The noise level on the lower level (although it a good thing because people are enjoying themselves) makes it nearly impossible.
This is one of my go-to places for brunch. Basics are covered, yet they also include at least of their awesome pizzas, fried chicken (so good), French toast w/ banana pecan syrup, mussels, lox with all the fixings, hand made sausage patties, yogurt parfaits, carving station, quiche, deviled eggs, salads, house lemonade, and a dessert bar. Or you can order a la carte. Either way, they also have a clever cocktail menu to accompany your meal should you choose to indulge. They never fail to please!
We had a wonderful lunch at Liberty Tavern! We were seated right away, and our server was great! She was so cheerful and welcoming. We were a party of four and two of us had cheeseburgers and the other two had fried chicken sandwiches. They were all excellent! The fries were also done to perfection. We will definitely return!!
Another great meal at Liberty. Had the Halibut - did not disappoint - it was delicious.
Sat outside with our dog it was nice!
Food was great, service was great. My only complaint is that the restaurant tries to fit too many people in too small a space.
My appetizer of lamb ribs were all fat. I only had two bites of meat I could find. The server told us at the end if we could hurry up after he dropped the check off because there was a large party waiting to fill the tables along the wall.
The food and service here is always consistent. Consistently good. It doesn't matter if you go for Sunday Brunch, a work-week lunch or dinner with a date or the kids. My kids beg to go to the brunch for special occasions. They have a good kids menu and plenty on the regular menu that works for younger palates. The wait staff is friendly and actually speaks to the kids. In all the years I have been going I have never had a bad meal or a bad experience. Some might think it is a little pricey for taking the kids along, but it really is the best of both worlds - you get a nice meal and the kids do too.
Met friends and staff was very accommodating as we arrived at different times. Very good octopus and wine. Somewhat noisy like all Arlington restaurants, although it may have been more quiet upstairs.
I wanted to show off an Arlington restaurant of good repuetation to world-traveled visitors from Texas. The food was disappointing and I am embarrassed for having brought them there.
Great brunch spread
Food was very good. Plates cleared promptly when going for seconds. Never felt rushed. Brunch price is very reasonable. I'd definitely go for brunch again.
Food was good not stellar. 1 of the 3 entrees was excellent (skirt steak), 1 was good (pasta) and 1 was fair (pork chop was tough). I've had better food there before. Great menu though. Apps we're excellent. Wine and beer lusts excellent. I'll return though because I've experienced better before.
Great food, drink and service! From the servers, bartenders, server assistants and management, this place is great! Atmosphere is perfect for groups. Loved the octopus and the draft beer selections!
As always, the food was fantastic and incredibly fresh. I had the beet and roasted carrot salad, which also had yogurt -- I think -- and quinoa. It was superb. I'm vegetarian so entre options are usually limited to 1 or 2 things - usually a pasta of some sort. But, you never feel as though you are settling. I had the half-portion of gnocchi with vegetables. The portions are huge. I didn't even finish the half portion, but it was flavorful, rich and very satisfying. This is a go to place when guests are in town and you want something solid, sophisticated, but also down to earth.
Normally when you have a large party you have to wait for a table. That was not the case at least not for long. We arrived early, was seated downstairs briefly, ordered drinks which were taken upstairs to our table. Our waiter was johnny on the spot, Wilson, you out did yourself.
We had GREAT Food, Company and Service. Wilson you are a GEM!
We all left happy and vowing to return......
Plenty of food for the Brunch Table! Definitely a good price at just $23 for an all you can eat buffet with mussels, lots of beats, breakfast french toast, pizza, salads, fresh fruits, pastries, yogurt parfaits and a lot of other stuff! Service was excellent. The servers were attentive, refilled water when appropriate and took away our plates quickly. Overall would recommend again.
As always the food was great, I left feeling full and happy. The service could have been a bit better; despite making a reservation we had to wait a bit before being seated. Overall, great experience.
