Diamond in the rough. Great neighborhood location without all of the fanfare.
My sister and I took my 8 year old girl fir a night out. Our server was awesome. She was the only child there and he went out of his way to make her feel like a Princess. It was great. We will go back.
Friendly service, excellent food, but the crafted cocktails took a long time. We didn’t get our first round of drinks until after we had almost finished our appetizers and then ordered our second round and didn’t receive them till after we finished our meal. I have been here many times and this is the only time it has taken this long to gets drinks.
First time coming. It was close to the Fox Theater which is why we chose it. Service was great and the food was good but definitely won’t be going back. The portions were barely appetizer size. $33 for 3 scallops and a tablespoon of cream corn. Husband ordered the shrimp and got 5 with a tablespoon of couscous. We ordered 1 app, 4 entrees, 2 deserts and a few drinks and spent $280 and left feeling not satisfied. I’m a small person and don’t eat much and even this was too small a portion for me. Your husbands will leave starving. Food was great but too much money for the tiny amount you get. Be prepared to order TWO entrees if you don’t want to leave starving.
Awesome place! Felt like a local.
It's very noisy. Did I mention, it's very noisy? I struggled to hear my date across our small table, and no way I could hear most of what our server was saying. The food was tasty, but for the $$ I think the portions should be larger. It is convenient to the Fox, so if you go to see Wicked, this is a good choice.
I brought my 9 month old and our server never asked once if he needed anything and didn’t come back to our table for 30 minutes to see how we were doing. I did not feel welcomed here even though I have been here multiple times and love the food and beverages.
Ordered a Dewars scotch & water with a twist of lime. Server said ok. Brought the drink and it was not Dewars. Asked the server and he said they were out of Dewars and substituted another scotch. Turns out they don’t even carry Dewars and he didn’t just say that so I could order something else. Steak not cooked correctly. Expensive, loud and poor service.
Food portions were very small and items that I have loved in past visits have become smaller and changed but not in a good way. Service and ambiance is good. Cocktails are good. It is very loud inside though. I will unlikely go back and the Lawrence used to be one of my favorite restaurants in midtown.
Our waitress was excellent and was doing her very best to provide a great experience but the food just is not that good from beginning to end (dessert) … price is high, portion size small …
Good food. Lovely atmosphere. Waiting staff attentive. Will definitely recommend and would return if back in Atlanta.
Fantastic food! Great service! Nikki was great! Listen to her recommendations the fish dip was amazing!!! Fun drink menu. Will be going back!
Delicious food, wonderful service! Would love to return.
My water glass was dirty.
My wife and I went to what until now has been our favorite restsurant. Mentioned on our 9pm reservation that this was our wedding anniversary. No mention of this from the head of house or waitress (unlike last year when w head multiple staff come up to us and wish us happy anniversary). That was no big deal at all. Bigger issue was the service. Having been here half a dozen times over the last year we were surprised at how lack luster our server was. Service is as important as the food. Unfortunately our server was disinterested in our experience. Very short (not in a mean way, but more a “I want to spend as little time at this table as I can” way). The restaurant wasn’t very busy but she couldn’t even deliver our meals to us. Food was good, no real Complaints there. The server didn’t ask if I wanted another drink. Asked if she could bring the check even though my wife and I very clearly hadn’t finished our meals and then didn’t ask if we wanted dessert. My wife asked for the dessert menu and chose the creme brûlée, which wasn’t very good. In the middle of dessert our server informed us she would be leaving early, which she did, only to sit at an empty table and speak to another server for the next 29 minutes. Just all very off putting and basically made this feel like a very ordinary experience, which was not what we hoped for or had come to expect from The Lawerence.
First visit for dinner and found it to be a nice midtown location. Greeted and seated and attentive waiter at the start, but quite a delay before ordering our meals. Every one enjoyed the food and that mac and cheese was a big hit. the pan seared halibut was wonderful. will try again.
We had dinner prior to a show at the Fox on Saturday night. Sky was excellent. The food was wonderful. We all ordered something different. We would go back! It's a great place for dinner before the Fox or for a date or to share a meal with friends.
Food was awesome!
Service was fantastic!
Took my mom to the Lawrence for lunch. Server was training someone, but we still don't understand why lunch for two people took over 40 minutes to come out and an additional 20-30 for the check in a relatively empty restaurant. The food was good, but when the breakfast sandwich came out there was jam on the sandwich, which was not on the menu description for lunch. The experience could have been better.
Service was excellent. The servers were friendly without being obtrusive, and knowledgeable. The food was expensive and only so/so. The chocolate panna cotta was a real disappointment - a sharp metallic taste and very thin chocolate. The trout was good, but the shrimp (all 5 of them) left a lot to be desired- very little food for the price, and I left hungry. The atmosphere is not conducive to a romantic dinner, but a crowd of young people might enjoy it. All in all, it wasn't bad, but there was nothing other than the service to make me want to go back.
Steak and fries was way too salty but everything was pretty good
Slow on food service.
Perfect to end a 3 day visit to the city of Atlanta. Midtown Rocks!
Only one waiter at lunch. He was covering inside and out for a busy lunch crowd. Also, no lunch dessert.
Delicious and intimate. Love the midtown location
Drinks were good. We only had an appetizer.
I love The Lawrence for food, Costeel the most amazing waiter, great service, and the outdoor patio.
My dining out regimen includes The Lawrence on a regular basis, but less so in winter, when the patio is unavailable. Never had a bad meal, and Costeel seems to have an intuitive capacity to understand your tastes, and what will work. His recommendations come with good questions that always result in a great meal, outstanding cocktails, or the perfect complementary wine.
Now, why don't I go in the winter? The noise level inside is intolerable. Conversation almost impossible.
I BEG the management to try some rugs under tables; hang some kind of sound absorbing material from the ceiling; bring in an acoustician; but please do something to cut back on the raucous level of noise that makes talking with your friends a most difficult chore. I notice on most of the reviews I have seen that food and service are all rated very highly. And "Ambience" is consistently rated very low. Shouldn't that be a message to management and ownership that says, "Hey, maybe we have a problem that needs attention."
I hope so. Meanwhile, I'll be back until about late October....and again in Spring...when I can enjoy your fabulous restaurant on the patio.
Ken in Midtown
The food was very good and prices are moderate. The noise level is high and made it difficult to conduct a business meeting. Too hot to sit outside, which would be a great alternative to the noise level.
Great food, phenomenal service. The staff were friendly and attentive. I’ll def visit again.
We have been to The Lawrence many times, but were disappointed on this past visit because of issues with their bar service. We tired to order three different cocktails off of their Specialty Cocktail menu only to be told after waiting some time for the drinks that the cocktails were not available because they had run out of the liquor used to make them. Then when we tired to order just regular mixed drinks and after waiting for their arrival, we were told that the liquor ordered was not available. This was at 8:30pm on a Saturday night and these were some very common liquors such as Tanqueray gin and Basil Hayden bourbon, so it was very disappointing that we had such difficulty searching for a cocktail to have with our dinner.
Sat immediately, fantastic and knowledgeable server. Bar drinks were exquisite, appetizers also great and recommendations from the server were taken and he was right. Steak Frites crazy good, the chicken was a surprise winner. Will go back.
The food was notable and unique. Lovely vegetable and gluten free options by ordering an appetizer, side and salad that was more than satiable! My husband enjoyed the pork chop dinner which he commented was the best he had eaten .
It was very very loud inside ; we will eat outside next time or come earlier to dinner. We will return to enjoy the fresh, unique offerings.
Food was excellent. Service was okay. Our waiter cleared our plates before we were even done. Almost like he was in a hurry. If you sit outside it is pretty busy as it’s a big going out area so beware of that.
We had a terrific meal on a lovely night on the patio. Food was great with several new items on the menu, drinks and wine were terrific, server was fast, friendly, and knowledgable. This is a true Midtown gem.
Great date place...and dinner with friends!
My wife and I reserved a table for dinner at The Lawrence to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. From the service to the food, it was very disappointing. For the price they charge, we had high expectations and nothing was great, except the wine. We're not "cheap" people and we're willing to pay for an amazing experience, but The Lawrence was not that. Take it from us, save your money and go somewhere else!
Great food. Great drinks. Very, very loud... nearly impossible to have a conversation when it’s busy
Our first time at this restaurant. The food is amazing. We had the deviled eggs for an appetizer. Very tasty. For our main dish, I had the chicken breast and she has the steak. Both were awesome. Did I forget about the drinks? A great selection.
Delicious food, fantastic cocktails, great service
Four of us came in early before a show at the Fox. Sat at the bar ten minutes and no one asked if we wanted a drink. Four people behind the bar laughing it up and never asking if we would like something. Soured the rest of the dinner. Food is always great. Table service was great. Not going back until at least next year, hoping the bar crew either gets swapped out or trained. Too many good options to have to deal with awful service.
