About The Lark - Santa Barbara
The Lark pays homage to the history of California train travel and tributes the treasured and long gone Santa Barbara Fish Market, built in the 1920’s as a commercial fish processing plant, shipping their seafood products throughout the state by rail. With an imaginative yet approachable menu created by the gifted Jason Paluska, The Lark celebrates everything found around Santa Barbara County – wineries, farms, ocean and natural beauty. The stunning design strives to connect to the past and the future, using discovered objects from the past and blending them with modern, urban and industrial materials to spectacular effect.

The Lark - Santa Barbara Ratings and Reviews
We went for dinner and were impressed. They encourage sharing which I love because everything we had was fantastic so we both got to sample all the flavours.
The beet carpaccio, the oysters with satsuma granita, the pork belly and the fritters.
We can’t wait to go again
We were excited to try this place. We were a little disappointed in our server, too hip maybe. He didn’t really check in much and he was hard to hear because of the noise level. We enjoyed the beef checks, but they were very rich. Not always a bad thing but for us a little too much. We think this is a great place for the younger hipster crowd!
We are here for the SB Film Fest. Also visited & ate here last year. I have to say - overrated. We were placed (although we had reservations) in the "confessional." My husband was literally wedged next to an antique confessional booth. The food was simply over the top, and I feel this is a restaurant that is known for the famous people who come here and not the food. A miss.
If you want entrees make sure to order items from the end of the menu. Our server only explained to us that the menu is more of a family style, but never told us that most of the menu was appetizer size. Also, some of the dishes were underwhelming so we are unsure why this place was rated so highly.
This was our fourth visit to The Lark and have always had a brilliant experience both from the food and the atmosphere.
This time things were perhaps not quite as good as before even though there were some exceptional dishes. Unfortunately one course was VERY slow in arriving so much so we asked for it to be removed from the bill which they did very politely and professionally.
Still a great overall experience and an interesting and diverse menu. Just maybe lost a bit of it’s early brilliance.
Our experience at The Lark was wonderful. The atmosphere is exceptionally well done both on the patio and inside. The service was very good but a little fast but it was a Friday night. Each course was innovative and extremely well prepared. We especially enjoyed the main course of roast chicken in cast iron pan. It is one of our favorite Santa Barbara restaurants. We look forward to going back.
While we loved certain items on the menu, we didn’t feel excited about some of the entrees. The confit of Duck Wings seemed disjointed from the rest of the menu and it was an ok dish. It didn’t fit with the farm to table concept. We missed a good beef dish on the menu and the dessert selection was not very good.
The service was a bit off, they brought out one dish for while the three of us waited a good ten minutes before the rest came out. The busboy tried to remove the empty dish intended for the eaten duck wings.
Despite a couple of bad dishes, we enjoyed the evening very much though the menu didn’t quite measure up to the last visit.
Total punt going to the lark but had a stunning stunning meal .Quite simply my take home memory from Santa Barbara . Menu really unusual combination of flavours and textures but boy did it work . Friendly helpful staff explained the menu and their ethos
Would love to go back but tad far from Edinburgh !!!!
We love this place and the family style dining experience. It has a great vibe, wonderful staff, and the food is wonderful. We have only been on Friday and Saturday nights. We need to plan ahead and make reservations way ahead of time if we want a popular time. We have eaten inside and outside, and both were great. Although sitting outside under the heater and right by the fireplace was a little warm for me.
Just to let you know, if you make a reservation...they don’t assign you a table, they just make sur you have a place to eat somewhere on the property! So, if it’s pouring rain or freezing cold, there’s a chance you’re outside with umbrella or heater, or sharing the “commute table” inside....because we complaint about it, the service was really bad...oh and if you order a plate with 3 pieces of scallop for exemple and you’re 4, they said just add one, but the 4th one will be naked, no side risotto and wrap in prosciutto????
I would highly recommend The Lark! It is beautiful both on the outside and inside. The moment we stepped into the restaurant it was very nice. The hostess was very patient even though my partner asked to be moved several times due to the temperature, she gets cold very easily. We never felt rushed in the least. Our server Bill was outstanding, helpful, patient, and very professional!
WOW! What an incredible restaurant. My boyfriend and I went to celebrate our 2 year anniversary and we were treated so well. They made us a card, brought out champagne, and also gave us a box of popcorn to take home! The food was so delicious and we were so pleased and amazed! Thank you!!!
The Lark was recommended by almost everyone we consulted and online reviews. They were all very accurate. The food was unique and incredible. Our server was ver friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and attentive to our needs. We were there with guests from out of town and they were equally impressed with everything about The Lark. It is a bit pricey, but so is every good restaurant in Santa Barbara, and The Lark is the best one we have been to so far.
I think ypur darling young girls at check on should be re taught how to greet and please people without sorry ypu can’t have a quiet booth they are all taken. ( at 530)
Exceptions must be made for older people (80s) many have hearing lose and a booth is easier to hear by
We are talking 2 people. Bending the rules a bit when a person comes in at the earlier hour when the booths are empty and when they leave 2 are still empty isn’t a crime
