The Knife - Virginia Ratings and Reviews
Had a reservation for Mother's day and was seated outside of the restaurant in a holding area near the bar. Had to walk in the doors to the main restaurant through the crowd to get my food and then come back through the crowd of people to our seats. Spoke with the management and nothing was done. We left and went down the street to Smokey Bones and enjoyed my day.
This is my favorite restaurant when I’m shopping around at the Potomac.
Everything about this place is phenomenal! I love this restaurant. The environment was nice and quaint. If you're looking for a delicious and filling meal and the whole experience of eating a combination of Argentinian steaks, charcoal grilled appetizers and meats, salads and sides, Ceviche, Antipasto, empanadas, etc. check out The Knife.
The service was good. The servers preparing the grill looked happy even with all the heat of the grill. The servers were attentive and always kept a watchful eye and never once hesitated to clear an empty plate. Gracias!
Overall, we had a fantastic meal. It’s a little pricey for our budget, to be our new most-frequented restaurant, but we are definitely coming back!
We found the food was very good with a real variety of options. The kids happily found plenty they liked and the adults found way too much to eat. Service was polite and drinks were refilled in a timely fashion. I found the TV stuck on infomercials annoying but other than that had a really pleasant experience
Enjoyed the restaurant atmosphere. Service was very good. However, meat tasted dried out. The restaurant was not that busy- had it been busier, the food could have had a quicker turn-over and probably wouldn't have been dried out from sitting on the grill. Would probably give it a second try!
I'm a strong supporter and frequent diner at The Knife. This time, though, I was disappointed in the service. Our server was slow to refill drinks and clear plates, but more importantly, the management crew in pink shirts walked around with scowls on their faces--not friendly. Come back, Kathy!
Definitely not a Brazilian Restaurant.... Thought the server would come by with meat but instead you walk to the buffet and ask a guy to cut you a piece of meat. Glorified buffet and expensive..... But the server wants that 20% even though all they do is bring drinks and clear plates.
I've been to The Knife before and left happy, but this last weekend the food was not as good. The meat was pre-cooked and reheated on the grill before serving which made it very dry. The empanadas were good. Dessert was not great either.
I really like the restaurant, so I hope the go back to the quality of meat they used to serve when they first started.
Typical "just meats" restaurant with a mediocre extras bar at a high price! About the only thing tasty was the grilled pineapple (that which had the sauce on it) and the bacon wrapped chicken. All the meat is just charbroiled on a barbecue grill and even the vegetables are just cleaned and grilled. If that's your fare, great, but not ours. Also, the interior is all what I call hard walled - thus very noisy when big parties are there - almost every weekend we were told. Ceilings are hard drywall thus adding to the noise level. They never got our online reservation (Glad I had the reservation on my phone!), so we had to wait for a table to be prepared and it was basically put in the passageway between two rooms. Otherwise, our waitress was very nice and accommodating. We choose to sit side by side where we wouldn't be interrupted by traffic and had an entertaining evening watching folks run into the chairs opposite of us.
Deserts were OK, but the Volcano is a ripoff if you have to pay extra for it. We make this at home all the time and is simpler to make vs the tiramisu they have. Like their high price, they're gambling on the ignorance of the customer.
Personally, I'd only recommend this to someone wanting a group to get together for an evening where everyone should be prepared to talk loudly to be heard over the din of other customers. I actually brought this place up with my carpool and of the four of us, we all have been there and don't plan on going back just because you can get a better tasting steak elsewhere!
Otherwise, if you want a good seasoned steak in a quieter surrounding, stick with Outback up the street from this place!
Had brunch with 3 others on Sunday. It was our first time and we were not sure to expect. we made reservations on Open Table for 11:30 and we were seated immediately. Hostess was courteous and our waiter was excellent. He showed us to the grill and food area telling us where everything was located. Omelette's are made to your liking and there are waffles, pancakes, delicious French Toast and Fried eggs cooked while you wait. On the gill there was sirloin steak, wrapped chicken breast, spareribs, and pork loin and a variety of sausages. Also salad bar, danish bar, scrambled eggs, salads, hash browns and assorted breads and fruit.. There was probably other things that I missed. Drinks included with brunch special price of $19.99 were sodas and coffee. Extra cost for Mimosas or orange juice. Read other reviews that said meat was overcooked but we were all able to get ours the way we liked from med rare to well done. There acre not a lot of brunch options in this part of Prince William County so we were happy and will be going back again and also plan to check out their dinner.
Everything was undercooked, and over salted. Even the fries were undercooked. The cooks didn't speak English, so I had no clue what I was getting on my plate at lot of times. I just pointed. My husband asked for sausage and ended up getting small intestines. No matter how you asked for the meat cooked you got medium rare, which was great for me, but not my husband. Also everything was over salted. In the three years I've been with my husband, I've never heard him complain about food, that night he did. The one positive he got two beers with his meal and I got a sangria.
First of all I reserved for a dinner for 2. When we arrived i told them and they looked confused at first. Then told us to follow them to our table (which was horrible) they had 3 tables next to each other for what looked like a table for 1 at each. The spacing was tight and uncomfortable with zero room on the table for our plates and drinks. I think if i reserved a table i shouldnt have to sit at a table that looks like its for a walkin. I asked to move to a booth when available which took about 15 to 20 minutes to happen. The food was amazing service could have been better. The servers looked like they were running around in every direction with random tables everywhere. I may not ever go back due to the experience especially due to how much i paid to have a enjoyable evening with my fiance.
Keep in mind we went on Valentines Day and it was packed. Luckily we had reservations. We felt fortunate that we only had to wait 10 minutes after our reservation time. The staff was a bit frazzled. We didn't get the full explanation of meal; that it included a bottle of wine and dessert until after we ordered drinks from a different server. The meat was OK, nothing to write home about. The salad bar was interesting and tasty. Everything was serve yourself. It was hard to hear your date and the staff behind the meat counter. It wasn't comfortable. Overall it was OK. We have eaten at better, similar South American type restaurants where they carve the meet at your table and it doesn't feel like an expensive golden coral.
We went for Valentines Day dinner. The line for the meat took about 30 minutes, and it was average to say the least. The "rib" I got was entirely fat. Really the only thing that was good was the chicken. The salad bar was great and the desserts were also great. For the same price, go to a place that brings the meat around to your table. Our server did a pretty good job refilling our drinks, but we won't be returning.
I went for my mom's birthday and we did have a great time overall. Service was attentive, if not a little slow, but understandable based on the crowds. The only small complaint I have is that the line where the meats are being grilled, should move a lot faster. Too much dead time waiting, but other than that great food and wonderful environment!
The Knife is a place to go when you have time for a leisurely dinner - besides the extensive salad bar, all-you-can-eat meats and some vegetables (and fresh pineapple) are on the grill. I've eaten at The Knife twice and both times found the food to be great and cooked to desired doneness, and salads and desserts to be great. The sangria is good, too.
As usual, the Knife had a great selection of delicious meats. One trick- ask for a filet- they are not sitting on the grill and will be cooked to your preference. The salmon is sometimes dry, so pay attention to it. The flank steak, top sirloin, ribs, and pork are all delicious! Make sure to get a couple of the "side dish" empanadas- they are really good!
We informed our waiter that this was our 1st visit he was very patient and attentive. took the time to walk us to the salad bar and meat serving area along with providing an overview. Since then we have recommended this dining establishment to our family and friends and we're looking forward to our next visit.
I don't like that you have to get up and get your food. The meat was unseasoned and dry in 5 minutes, and the vegetables in the grill were barely diced. Salad Bar was minimal. Uncomfortable seating, lighting was poor. I just wouldn't go back, it didn't feel invitational to stay and dine it was like Golden Corral. We left before we finished our drinks and didnt order desert.
