The Kitchen Restaurant
Upon arrival, we welcome guests to stroll through our open kitchens, chat with the chefs, visit our wine cellar, order libations and relax on the patio. For intermission, guests are invited to sample bites at the chefs’ stations, including sushi, house-made charcuterie, artisan cheeses, freshly shucked oysters and more. As dinner service concludes, we invite guests to enjoy dessert, which is served alongside our fresh herb tea service and French press single-origin coffees.
An amazing experience
It was an amazing experience! Nothing like it!
First time for me, 3rd for husband. AMAZINGLY FUN!!! So entertaining and met couples on either side of us, Totally Bonded with them. The Chef is Amazingly Warm, Funny, Entertaining and made the night sooo Enjoyable!!! Will Totally come back!!!!
When what for some could be considered a once in a lifetime experience becomes the talk of a new tradition, you know you’ve experienced something magical! This was our first time to the Kitchen we’ll be back! And next time, I’m asking for more Walu; the stuff dreams are made of!
Fun and interactive dining experience. Employees are very friendly and entertaining.
Yes it's on the expensive side, but the energy of the staff/atmosphere and the quality of food is unmatched in the Sacramento area!
As rookies to The Kitchen, we would say, The Kitchen absolutely lives up to the hype. From the moment you walk-in the door the entire staff is sure to great you by NAME and makes sure to encourage you to have a great time. The evening starts out with some wandering of the kitchen where you’re sure to encounter the amazing kitchen staff who are all willing to stop what their doing and share about the food. Sous chef Gio makes the absolutely best sushi and liver pate and if you’re early enough, you can catch a glimpse of his skills. As the evening begins, Chef McCown welcomes the guests and describes the courses in detail. The attention to quality and local craft as well as ingredients is nothing short of amazing. As Chef and his team start the courses off, you become absolutely mesmerized by the work off art called “cooking”. The symphony of work would amaze even the most keen of the art. The staff continues to overwhelm you throughout the night with impeccable service and offers of “more”. After two courses, intermission takes over where you have 30 minutes of recovery; it’s a kind of hangover recovery where you treat your symptoms with more amazing food. Be sure to escape to the outdoor oyster bar and don’t miss the aforementioned sushi and pate in the kitchen. The experience resumes with the main entrees in which your palate is sure to continue on its way to the ultimate climatic experience yet. The evening concludes with a desert and “side-car” of delectable goodies. Overall, the best all around dining experience we’ve ever had; and we’ve been to the “laundry”, “hell” and other top renowned restaurants. Only critique would be to go with a bottle (or two) of wine and skip the parring. Although wonderfully paired, the pours are anything but gracious. Several courses left us wanted more vino to go with the fireworks happening in our mouths with the food. Highly recommend Chef McCown and The Kitchen; we will definitely be back...
The meal was very good and exceeded our expectations. The only complaint is there was too much food! It was definitely an experience to remember and repeat.
An extraordinary experience.
Fantastic quality food.
Just love it.
Highly recommend it.
Speechless. But since this review requires 50 characters I’ll try to scare up some words. It was a culinary extravaganza. Chef McCown and crew are as talented in the kitchen as they are on stage. We were extremely well fed and entertained. Thank you!
We had a great time but felt it was pretty expensive. We appreciated all the behind the scenes effort and planning, thoughtfulness and creativity. We also appreciate how many people it takes to make the evening successful. Lastly, we liked how there were so many food options to try and the fun and somewhat secret info that went along with making some of the dishes!
I don't think I can say what hasn't already been said. This place is top notch. I have been to a number of fine dining venues in Northern California: French Laundry, Bouchon, Ad Hoc, Chez Panisse among them, and The Kitchen holds up and even excels past most. The food/drink was other-worldly and service impeccable. This is not the place, however, if you are looking for a quiet, romantic dinner. It is really dinner and a "culinary show". I loved the high energy and the at-times frenetic atmosphere, but that might not be for everyone, particularly given the price point. You get what you pay for which is a lot on both ends, but in my opinion, definitely worth it.
Simply outstanding! A dining experience like no other
Bend over backwards for everyone’s satisfaction. Nothing like it!
It is a shame that it is so hard to get a reservation-- I have a group pf friends who would like to join me for a wonderful evening at The Kitchen but it has become so difficult to get a table that we have given up.
This was an amazing experience! If you’re into food this is one of the best things you could possibly do! You get amazing food for 4 hours non stop & can ask for whatever you want. It was an unbelievable experience from start to finish.
This experience with spectacular . I loved all of the staff and especially the chef . He had phenomenal energy and was knowledgeable about all the food .
The food and staff were impeccable ! Can’t wait to make another reservation . 5 stars !!!!!
The food was amazing. The service was amazing. The production was amazing. They gave us so much more food than we saw on the menu. We will be back!
This isn't just dinner... It's an experience. I will definitely be going back.
Sacramento's hidden Jewel of a restaurant! Well worth the wait/advance booking.
the dinner is very entertaining and delicious. the service is outstanding and answer any questions or requests.
The food was auperb. The staff were all fantastic. The experience was extraordinary.
Fun and entertaining dinner, excellent atmosphere.
So accommodating. Just a wonderful
This was a bucket list experience for our anniversary. We love to cook and have traveled widely experiencing many great meals over the years. What sets the Kitchen apart from many fine dining restaurants in my opinion is the informality and entertainment component. First the cooking is done in front of you and you can sit at the horseshoe that surrounds the grill and watch Chef Kelly McCown. Kelly is entertaining and puts people at ease. They encourage questions and even let you step into the kitchen and watch them cook. The food is simply amazing! Five courses and each was perfection. Before the 1st course, we were encouraged to stroll the garden or wonder back to the main kitchen where an assortment of sushi and small plates were set out for sampling along with oysters. Our first course was a scallop on a bed of Okinawan sweet potato that was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Next came a bouillabaisse that was my favorite of the evening with tomato agnolotti stuffed with sea beans and sitting in an incredible seafood broth. Before the next course, we had a break to wonder the kitchen and once again sample all kinds of small bites. The next two courses were quail with wild blackberries and a fennel soubise followed by a corn crepe with roasted beef and summer truffle. I could have made a meal of corn crepes alone they were so delicious. The last act, by which time I was loosening my pants, was dessert. Not just dessert, basically three rounds of dessert starting with hot out of the oven chocolate chip cookies slathered with cream. Yummy! Next up, a raspberry tart with violet custard and blueberry sauce, followed by a plate of five sweet bites, including a macaroon and a lovely chocolate caramel candy. We both agreed not only was this the best meal we have ever had; but the experience was fun, relaxing and filled with laughter listening to Chef McCown’s running commentary. Definitely dinner as a performance art!
Food was utterly delicious and excellent service.
There was more food than what was on the menu. Fresh oysters - love it.
Michelin 🌟 was long earned and overdue!
The Kitchen was one of the top dining experiences I have experienced thus far in my life! Not only was the food incredible but the environment was fun, exciting, and very open & welcoming. I’ve never had a dining experience where the head chef literally tells his guests to make themselves at home by exploring his kitchen, coming up to learn how to cook/help cook, and even offer to modify any food made to make our experience the best. The Chef was hilarious, engaging, and really knows how to cook for quality. Come with literally an empty stomach because you will leave stuffed!!! I can’t recommend this experience enough.
Wonderful experience! Customer service was outstanding and we had a lovely evening with The Kitchen and their staff.
Coming to the Kitchen was a great experience. It's very interactive an everyone makes you feel so comfortable while being there. I loved being able to walk around BOH and how they will do anything to make you happy.
We were here for a date/birthday night. You get 5 prefixed courses and sampler of lots of different food during “intermission”. Oh yeah there’s unlimited raw oysters too during intermission. You also get the option of having seconds or thirds of the course you really like. It’s completely laid back and transparent. You get to see how the food is made and get to walk around the back as well. They also make chocolate chip cookies for the hell of it. We were starting to hurt cause we ate so much which means they did their job. I had to stand up to eat my last course.
You won’t regret it. You’re there at least 4hours. Bon appetit
This place was the best date night we’ve had in over 17 years. The whole experience of interaction with staff was inviting and humble. The beer selection of Russian River Brewery was a great surprise for me and my husband who are local beer lovers. The food was endless! I mean I was so full I was hoping there was no more delicious food to eat but it keep sneaking up on us. And you had to eat because it was nothing like you’ve ever tasted before. We spent our night enjoying the scenery of the whole place, chatting to others and engaging with the whole Kitchen staff. It is pricey but definitely worth the money!
This restaurant should be on everyone’s bucket list! So fun watching the chefs cook and plate the food in front of you. The most beautiful and delicious food you’ve ever seen. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable on the menu and the wines.
Overall the experience was AMAZING! I highly recommend going. There were a few things I would change. The $30 cocktail menu was definitely not worth it. It was not worth the $$. If they're going to charge $30 it better be spectacular.
The wine pairings also came to the table before the course so we were almost done with the wine by the time the food came.
Overall, was amazing - just a few tweaks.
Amazing experience! Food was delicious and chef was hilarious. Servers were incredibly kind and attentive.
The menu wasn’t as great as it was our first time. I think Chef Mccown allowed his sous chef to take charge this time and he created a lot of what he knows... latin american based foods like ceviche, tamales, etc. i would have enjoyed more of Chef Mccown’s creations. Nonetheless we had a blast for my wife’s birthday and our 9 yr anniversary! We loved the environment! We loved the show and entertainment put on by the staff! Would definitely come again... hopefully there will be my favorite seafood raviolo!! Thanks everyone!
It’s not your everyday eat out restaurant, but the experience was fantastic! From start to finish they were very organized, friendly, & very welcoming. They provided fun & an all out good time. The plates may look small, but you’re eating throughout the entire night!
I would definitely recommend this restaurant & we plan on going back again.
