The Kirkland Tap & Trotter
The food has gone downhill over the last several visit. The oysters were dry, pasta tough, cauliflower undercooked and cold. And the staff have an attitude. Not sure we will be coming back
What I love most about KTT is it's honesty. It's loud, a little tight, lotsa people, sometimes harried servers. But the food is always good. Not in a pretentious kind of way - just really high quality ingredients, usually with a good protein main, grilled to perfection and plated like I would at home. I guess that's really it - KTT reminds me of home.
Good food. Good vibes. Go to for work dinners with out of towners - reliably high quality, good wine menu, comfortable price, comfortable and quiet in early week.
Came for late brunch and it was surprisingly not busy, which was a bonus. The food was solid! We'd definitely come back for brunch and also for dinner, although it's pretty meat heavy (obviously) and we're pescetarian, but they do offer vegetarian options from what I understand.
Slightly over priced for my liking. The Brussel Sprouts were nicely cooked, packed seasonings though. Interesting flavors for the home-made pasta.
The unique grill is the star of the show. Favorite dish surprisingly was the coffee rubbed roast carrots. Pork Chop and Lamb Burgers were popular entrees. Taste of the grill cannot be duplicated. Solid bar program. Look for the barrel aged cocktails too.
Dinner for 4 on Snowy Saturday night. I ordered the double pork chop and later was told they had only 1 chop left, the waitress offered to substitute an extra side. I rolled the dice. The pork was more cooked than I would have liked and due to the order curfuffle, the entree was charged twice on the bill at two different prices? Not sure why that happened? When I noticed upon getting the bill, the waitress quickly resolved the problem. So I remind readers to always carefully review your bill, not because people are dishonest, they just sometimes make mistakes during a busy shift. Otherwise, the veggies were very good and everyone else had a positive meal experience. Burger, kale salad and swordfish kabob all described as excellent by our table. I would go back.
Food was yummy! Service (Willow) was great, and the wine was good too.
The food was awesome, server was great, ambiance was great. We had a terrific evening!
Fair. Nothing that says eat here pretty standard food. Service was excellent
I love love love the sweet potato with miso butter.
Food was outstanding! I will say i believe we ordered well, the table next to us even ordered the same when they saw our meal come out. We started off with the Bone Marrow and the Oysters. The bone marrow was good, i've got high standards for bone marrow because it's something i always try if it's on a menu. Their bone marrow was super rich and a healthy amount of marrow. The toast was a little too grilled which can overpower the marrow flavor but we still cleaned plate. The oysters were something else. They come with a Mignonette sauce that i've never had with oysters before. Needless to say i'm never having oysters with cocktail sauce ever again; the oysters were fresh, clean and crisp. The Mignonette sauce is a light red wine vinegar sauce with shallots and some other flavors that really spiked the oyster into a distant planet. We decided to finish by splitting the Lamb Burger and the pork belly collard greens. The lamb burger was cooked to a rosy pink and topped with goat cheese and some sour pickled onion (basically something that complimented the rich flavor of the lamb and the sourness of the cheese). My friends actually dined nearby and had a few other critiques on other menu item but in terms of our meal, we were aces. Well done.
Our food was delicious, service was attentive, polite and not overbearing.
We brought a large family group to KT&T (about 18 people ages 5 to 86), and the whole experience was fantastic. They took care of us very well, food was great, ambiance was fun as always, and everyone had a wonderful time!
I love this place, the food is always good and the atmospere is casual, but still special. Great for datenight! And close to home.
Food, ambiance and service were amazing!!
Amazing food, excellent service. Impressive beer list that's had sours. Sausage as haute cuisine. Who knew?
The food was very good. I would definitely eat it again. My concerns are the same as others': it bills itself as a neighborhood restaurant, but it's priced like a very expensive one. I also found it loud, even on a Tuesday night in winter. And though we were seated before 7 p.m. we ordered the last roast chicken of the night. I was surprised that they would sell out that early of one of only about 7 entrees on the menu.
Food was good, not great. Little bland for the prices. Cocktails were good, fun atmosphere.
second trip to Kirkland, great place, we will return!
Waited an hour and ten minutes for food. The KT&T brunch bowl, which I have ordered many times before was sub-standard and very salty. The fried egg was over cooked. But we had waited so long that I was relieved to have any food at all. Also, our party’s food arrived at different times.
This is all very abnormal for a restaurant that is quite consistent.
Kirkland is always wonderful. Great food and service
It was a nice evening. Many different selections of food and drinks.
My birthday party of 14 friends was great; service matched our pacing, & was friendly and flexible. Spot on dishes, did all family style from the oysters through deserts. Smiles and positive comment up and down the table. :-)
'Twas the night before Thanksgiving....This place was such a treat after a long day of driving. Warm, cozy and casual, the food was perfectly prepared, the service was more than charming (not your stereotypical Boston waitress), and the drinks were delicious. A great place to relax and unwind. Because of the holiday, it was probably far less crowded than usual, and I am thankful for that! We will definitely be back.
Staff is so nice - we brought a baby with us and they were very welcoming. Great steak and sausages, warmed us up on a wet cold day. Great vegetable sides - could make a whole meal of them.
Birthday and anniversary
This was a solid brunch choice. Inviting, warm modern atmosphere. The pork belly and the homemade doughnut with caramel sauce were definite crowd-pleasers. Pretty typical prices for Boston/Cambridge.
Nice, simple, but well executed Sunday afternoon fried chicken and hamburger.
French fries crispy outside, soft inside.
Cozy, funky, comfortable neighborhood go-to spot with excellent food and drink. A cut above!
There are not many vegetarian options on the menu - I think one entree. The food is pretty pricey for the small servings. We ordered 2 apps - chicken wings and shisito peppers. The shisito peppers came out with our entrees because they forgot about them and our waitress comped them which was nice. My friend took a bite out of a very large chicken wing and it was bloody and completely raw inside. We told the waitress immediately and she said she would check with the chef - not sure why she would ask the chef if we were grossed out - but then came back and said the chef said it was fine to eat. However I sent a photo to a chef friend who said do not eat that chicken... we were charged for the chicken wings in the end.
Great food and service but too noisy due to loud music over speakers.
Great food and service - very friendly to help us with kids’ food preferences, and always known for their meat but some really good veggie options too. Still thinking about that squash and steak and - yummmm
Excellent beer selection. The burgers are great. The lamb ragu on rye pasta was very disappointing. There was virtually no meat/sauce on the pasta. For $24 I basically got a bowl of noodles (and not a very large portion either). The appetizers are tasty, but overpriced.
Food is spectacular
For a restaurant that features what is essentially elevated versions of bar food (and there is nothing wrong with that, as that is what I was there for) I was shocked at how poorly executed the basics were. The crispy rib appetizer was fairly tasteless except for the poured on sauce, which tasted like jarred barbeque sauce. Two of us ordered burgers, one medium, one medium rare. Both arrived extremely rare, with raw meat in the center. The burger was also pretty tasteless. I don’t write many reviews, but for a restaurant with a good reputation, this meal was pretty disappointing.
My wife and I had a wonderful night at Kirkland Tap & Trotter thanks to the hostess (manager?) Jessica who helped us in every way before, during and (even!) after the dinner.
The food was good: we had pork rillettes (great), shishito peppers (slightly under-cooked; so, they might have been meant this way), lamb ragù with rye pasta (delicious), burger (very good) and the chicken (unbelievable).
Cocktails were very good and the wine list slightly above the average.
We had a lot of fun.
First let me say the staff were extremely friendly, accommodating and professional. Also the food was very good---creative selections and well-prepared. The problem is the ambience----first was the absurdly loud "background" music, which almost in itself prevented conversation. Then the tables were too close together, so one's neighbor's conversations were loudly unavoidable. And, finally, some kind of terrarium-making class was being held in a section of the restaurant divided from the dining area by a curtain. This class featured a man semi-yelling into a very loud microphone, with results that could be clearly heard in most of the rest of the dining area. We were aware of a number of complaints about this, and again, the staff was very responsive in helping us to move our seats, and the microphone was lowered in volume. The bottom line---good food, great staff, in an assaultive environment. Probably won't be back.
Fun neighborhood place that doesn't force you to settle for mediocre food. Food was delicious and well prepared; everyone was delighted by their selections. The team loved the drinks and were impressed with the extensive beer menu. Service team was very polite, though there were sometimes longer than expected waits (in all fairness, we had a big party!) They were very accommodating that we had to add to our reservations. While this doesn't have the vibe of the typical after work dinner, we all wanted a place that wasn't stuffy and could be more fun. We had a great time and a great meal here -- thank you KTT staff!
