The Keg Steakhouse + Bar - Saanich Ratings and Reviews
Always a good time, but disappointed to be seated by the kitchen even after making a reservation. Noise level was high, and lots of traffic going by. I also have a bit of trouble with stairs, which are unavoidable throughout the restaurant. Server also was a bit slow to clear, and didn't refill the wine.
Having said that, the food was fantastic and so was the wine. The general atmosphere was also good, so easy to enjoy a good meal.
We requested a quiet table to celebrate our 49th Anniversary with dear friends. Upon arrival, the hostess said "congratulations" and escorted us to our table upstairs. We were seated beside a very large table (20 men - probably a staff function)............having a good time but extremely noisy. We all ordered appies. They were excellent. Then our meal came without anyone clearing our appy plates The poor server was trying to balance picking up plates and putting down hot dinners. One person wanted "fries" that didn't come with meal. It took another 20 minutes. We wanted bacon with baked potatoes. That took another 10-15 mins. Staff were extremely busy, but that's no excuse for poor service. We didn't stay for coffee due to the noise level and at no time did our server wish us a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, although she saw us taking photos, etc. It was a very disappointing evening all in all.
The reason for lower ratings on overall /food was that I ordered your Prime Rib to be medium, it came as rare, my friend ordered the Teryaki sirloin, and she found it to be tough. We are frequent diners with you and have had both of these choices and we haven’t been disappointed before. I realize we could have asked for these items to be replaced but that disrupts the meal for everyone at the table.
On the whole we had a great experience, service was great and food was excellent. The only drawback was where we were seated. We had a two seater booth which was against the wall in the secluded area of three other four seater booths. We were looking for a adult experience and in the two other booths across from us were seated families with young children. It was like being at MacDonald's.
We drove in from Sooke for a date night with no children. My wife ordered the sirloin and was very happy. I ordered my usual prime rib, and it was amazing as always. If I had one negative thing to say, it would be that my particular piece had what I would guess to be a solid 3 oz chunk of fat. This has never been an issue in the past but I felt it would have been nice to not have to throw out that much of my slice, would have loved a little better value in my meal. In the picture the whole right 3rd of the meat was fat hiding under my prawns. Other then that, it was a totally success:) we will be back for sure.
The waiter was great and the food was as always great. but they put right by the kitchen, our view was the kitchen. The gal that brought us to the table seemed put off, when the rest of the party showed up she had them looking everywhere for us. when they got to our table she just dismissed them. She was not a happy camper that night i guess.
Great meal, as always at the Keg. Service was good, but have experienced better from previous visits. Again, as always, OpenTable notes about our online reservation are never received by the restaurant. Was celebrating dad's birthday and had to mention to the server it was his birthday, because as expected, OpenTable comments never make it to the restaurant.
It was an exceptional evening, celebrating my step-daughter and her, then, boyfriend's birthdays which also became their engagement party. Our server, Brad, is also exceptional in his knowledge of The Keg, food and dealing with people. It was an absolute pleasure to have him serving us. Our thanks to him.
We were pleased overall. Our server was friendly and attentive.......at first. Once the food arrived, he just seemed to forget about us. Our empty plates remained stacked on our table for a long time. It took almost 1/2 hour to get our dessert menu and another 15 minutes to order. When my husband needed change, as he was paying cash, he ended up going in search of someone who would provide him with same.
This was our Thanksgiving meal. We have been so busy with our work and at home, we were unable to host a dinner this year. We did appreciate the excellent ambience, and the food. We just expected the usual great service and found ourselves really disappointed.
Thanks for asking for our thoughts.
A long time friend was in town for the weekend, we wanted a table that was private and quiet enough to have a conversation. When we arrived, our table was ready early, bonus, as we did not need to sit at the bar and wait for our table to be ready. The servers were very professional, happy, the food was spot on, best steak I have had in a very long time. Great night, great food, great service, highly recommend to anyone looking for a night out!!
We had the best dinner ever at the Keg in over 35 years.
We were not rushed for the first time I can remember, the noise level was moderate, so we could have a conversation with out rising our voice, our waitress was excellent and our steak was the best we've ever had and done to perfection, (Thanks Chef).
That evening was our 43rd anniversary, we will never forget it.
Looking forward to returning for another fantastic evening.
Prime rib is very good as well as the onions served with it. The problem with this restaurant is that the prices are for a restaurant that offers fine dining and this restaurant is not a high-level fine dining restaurant. Good food but very expensive for this type of restaurant.
