The Keg Steakhouse + Bar - Calgary 4th Ave Ratings and Reviews
I made a reservation on Open Table for a business lunch at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15th. When the party of two arrived, the hostess said that they did not have a reservation, even though a reservation confirmation number was presented to the hostess. The hostess did manage to find the party a table. It appears that there is a breakdown of communication between The Keg and Open Table.
The dining experience was very good. Food was good and service was great Jacob did a good job. They sat us next to the kitchen entrance and was very loud with the expo guy yelling for runners and the ice machine it’s like the person that was getting ice didn’t realize they where making some much noise. We will be back but I will ask to be seated in a more quiet part of the dining room.
Service was at par, but not timely. Felt rushed through and when ordering. Sat at table a long time before the waiter showed up. Too noisy a place as the. Lose from large parties and the bar becomes overwhelming. Food was fair compared with competition and service average.
We have been to several Kegs in Calgary and in comparison to others ,this location fell a bit short with regard to the dinner accompaniments. At other Kegs we have had a more generous serving of mushrooms and side vegetables and were offered extra toppings for our twice baked potato - not so here.
The place is nice and quiet, good for special occasions. There are plenty of room. The steak was quiet good however the menu doesn`t have a wide selection and unfortunately if you are vegan options are very limited and not that creative or super tasty. For steak lovers probably still one of the best restaurants in Calgary.
Our server Mikey (I think was his name?) was very professional, friendly and prompt. Food was excellent including appies, ribeye (that crazy mash) and cheesecake. Thanks for a wonderful time will be back. Always feel we can count on the keg for a great experience. Crystal and Renata
I hosted four people for a business lunch which is common for this downtown Calgary restaurant.
Food and service was good however at one point music was turned on and there were technical difficulties with the volume control which made it very difficult to carry-on a conversation. Even the regular volume made it difficult to hear the person seated next to me and impossible to to hear the person two seats away. It would occasionally jump momentarily to a very high volume which made everyone wince. Eventually the music was turned off but it took too long. Music is OK, but low volume is better for lunch at an upper end restaurant downtown.
Reservations are recommended when planning to go to The Keg (Westin). My friend enjoyed her burger and said it was very good. The side chosen was a tossed greens and she had to ask for additional dressing as it appeared to have very little. I had the Prime Rib Sandwich - I was a little disappointed as it was a bit on the rare side. It was served with Caesar Salad which did not have much dressing on it.
