I want to start off by saying that the food at the Julep is excellent. The service is very good. The ambiance inside is romantic and intimate. This is why our group of 5 men chose to sit outside.
I have eaten on the patio for many years. Never before has anyone smoked, and I had assumed it was a smoke free patio because there were no ash trays. This past visit, a lady sat next to our group and smoked what seemed to be 25 cigarettes. She would just flip her ashes onto a bread plate. It was not a pleasant experience, and my whole group groaned every time she lit up a new one. Julep should really consider banning smoking on the patio as it is covered and open only on a few sides. There simply is not enough air flow for patio smoking.
We did have excellent food, once again, and our cocktails were amazing. I just hope Julep reconsiders its smoking policy in the future. (cough cough)
We had a family dinner. The ambiance was wonderful. There were six of us. We had a great bottle of Anthology Cab. The fried chicken was authentic. I ordered the handout french fries and they were perfect. My granddaughters were thrilled to have Shirley Temples. All of the members of my group loved their features. Every had ample portions. Service was efficient and patient. The chocolate cake was amazing. The menu and features are far more sophisticated than other restaurants but the pricing is far less than the fancy steak houses.
GREAT LEXINGTON RESTAURANT WITH EQUINE PHOTOS, SEVERAL DINING ROOMS, & A BAR AREA. FOOD WAS PRICED WELL, REGIONAL QUISINE, A FARM TO TABLE. SERVER WAS VERY PERSONABLE AND INFORMATIVE ABOUT THE MENU. WOULD HIGLY RECOMMEND TRYING.
We arrived a bit late for lunch. Varied menu. Great service. Quiet. If you love horsey decor and/or dining on a lovely patio, this is your place. Everything was delicious! Salad with fried green tomatoes was outstanding and shareable!
I ate at the Julep Cup a few years ago and it has clearly significantly downgraded since then. My partner and I were the only diners in the whole entire section we were sat in (had capacity for about 50 other diners), with a pianist playing the piano, which was the only enjoyable thing about the ambience. They didn't have the first, second, or third wine my partner wanted. I was told they didn't have the wine I wanted, and then 10 minutes later told they brought it and told me they did have it. I had to ask for a cooler and some ice for my bottle of room temperature white wine. The appetizers were good, but my entree experience was a disappointment. I asked for the steak, which was on an entree menu with about 5 other options. I was then bought the ribeye, which was on the specials menu, and cost $30 more. I asked for medium rare and it came out well done. I then asked our waitress for plates and cutlery for my partner and I to share and she bought out one plate and one fork. It was as if she couldn't understand or carry out basic tasks or things that we asked. The dessert was mediocre. All in all, the service was the most disappointing aspect and mistake after mistake from the get go led to a really disappointing experience.
The trout was a little heavy. I think it had too many spices. I loved the music!
Enjoyable as always. The new menu seemed more limited. They used to have a couple of specialty salads but not this time - just a Caesar option which I ordered and was very good. Both of my guests enjoyed their meals and our time together. It is a great quiet space for good conversation.
Always perfection. Food is excellent and service is great. Atmosphere is unparalleled in the neighborhood. Live music on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Went on a friday for anniversary. Jesse was good for conversation and impeccable attention. Sausage and grits were amazing!
We had the swordfish special and pork chops. Would get both again and again! Another exceptional meal and with service to match.

I love coming here. They have implemented a very locally sourced menu recently. I really like seeing restaurants support the farmers here in Kentucky. I had the pork chop special with fresh peaches. It was fantastic. I was told by the manager that they get peaches from a Georgia peach truck that visits Ky twice a year. My date had the grouper and said it was great. Jesse did a wonderful job taking care of us.
Had been to The Julep Cup a few years ago to sample their locally famous mint julep. Had a pleasing experience at the bar one afternoon. Recently we were visiting the area again with our daughter and son-in-law to do bourbon tasting and came back to The Julep Cup for more mint juleps and lunch. The service and food were excellent. We had a most enjoyable time on their terrace experiencing a southern hospitality lunch before going to tour the nearby Henry Clay Estate. Would certainly return if we are in the area again. We reside near Philadelphia.
