Call to check. Features local talent such as Ben Lacey and Bob Bryant on guitars; Phil Copeland; - Emmy award winning songwriter and vocalist; Paul Osborne, saxophone and Harold Young, keyboard.
I want to start off by saying that the food at the Julep is excellent. The service is very good. The ambiance inside is romantic and intimate. This is why our group of 5 men chose to sit outside.
I have eaten on the patio for many years. Never before has anyone smoked, and I had assumed it was a smoke free patio because there were no ash trays. This past visit, a lady sat next to our group and smoked what seemed to be 25 cigarettes. She would just flip her ashes onto a bread plate. It was not a pleasant experience, and my whole group groaned every time she lit up a new one. Julep should really consider banning smoking on the patio as it is covered and open only on a few sides. There simply is not enough air flow for patio smoking.
We did have excellent food, once again, and our cocktails were amazing. I just hope Julep reconsiders its smoking policy in the future. (cough cough)
We had a family dinner. The ambiance was wonderful. There were six of us. We had a great bottle of Anthology Cab. The fried chicken was authentic. I ordered the handout french fries and they were perfect. My granddaughters were thrilled to have Shirley Temples. All of the members of my group loved their features. Every had ample portions. Service was efficient and patient. The chocolate cake was amazing. The menu and features are far more sophisticated than other restaurants but the pricing is far less than the fancy steak houses.
GREAT LEXINGTON RESTAURANT WITH EQUINE PHOTOS, SEVERAL DINING ROOMS, & A BAR AREA. FOOD WAS PRICED WELL, REGIONAL QUISINE, A FARM TO TABLE. SERVER WAS VERY PERSONABLE AND INFORMATIVE ABOUT THE MENU. WOULD HIGLY RECOMMEND TRYING.
We arrived a bit late for lunch. Varied menu. Great service. Quiet. If you love horsey decor and/or dining on a lovely patio, this is your place. Everything was delicious! Salad with fried green tomatoes was outstanding and shareable!
I ate at the Julep Cup a few years ago and it has clearly significantly downgraded since then. My partner and I were the only diners in the whole entire section we were sat in (had capacity for about 50 other diners), with a pianist playing the piano, which was the only enjoyable thing about the ambience. They didn't have the first, second, or third wine my partner wanted. I was told they didn't have the wine I wanted, and then 10 minutes later told they brought it and told me they did have it. I had to ask for a cooler and some ice for my bottle of room temperature white wine. The appetizers were good, but my entree experience was a disappointment. I asked for the steak, which was on an entree menu with about 5 other options. I was then bought the ribeye, which was on the specials menu, and cost $30 more. I asked for medium rare and it came out well done. I then asked our waitress for plates and cutlery for my partner and I to share and she bought out one plate and one fork. It was as if she couldn't understand or carry out basic tasks or things that we asked. The dessert was mediocre. All in all, the service was the most disappointing aspect and mistake after mistake from the get go led to a really disappointing experience.
The trout was a little heavy. I think it had too many spices. I loved the music!
Enjoyable as always. The new menu seemed more limited. They used to have a couple of specialty salads but not this time - just a Caesar option which I ordered and was very good. Both of my guests enjoyed their meals and our time together. It is a great quiet space for good conversation.
Always perfection. Food is excellent and service is great. Atmosphere is unparalleled in the neighborhood. Live music on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Went on a friday for anniversary. Jesse was good for conversation and impeccable attention. Sausage and grits were amazing!
We had the swordfish special and pork chops. Would get both again and again! Another exceptional meal and with service to match.
The brussel chips are awesome. Great patio. Jessica was very attentive.
We love coming here the food and service are always spot on!
Fantastic meal! We started off with Fried green tomatoes. Both of us had the grouper special and shared the Peach Melba. Service was great.
I love coming here. They have implemented a very locally sourced menu recently. I really like seeing restaurants support the farmers here in Kentucky. I had the pork chop special with fresh peaches. It was fantastic. I was told by the manager that they get peaches from a Georgia peach truck that visits Ky twice a year. My date had the grouper and said it was great. Jesse did a wonderful job taking care of us.
Had been to The Julep Cup a few years ago to sample their locally famous mint julep. Had a pleasing experience at the bar one afternoon. Recently we were visiting the area again with our daughter and son-in-law to do bourbon tasting and came back to The Julep Cup for more mint juleps and lunch. The service and food were excellent. We had a most enjoyable time on their terrace experiencing a southern hospitality lunch before going to tour the nearby Henry Clay Estate. Would certainly return if we are in the area again. We reside near Philadelphia.
Had a fantastic evening dining on the patio. We very much enjoyed all of the food and drinks. Jesse was our server, and he was very hospitable. The fresh morel mushrooms were fantastic in the special fresh pasta. The menu was locally sourced, and the quality came through with every bite.
We found The Julep Cup because we were looking for a restaurant near downtown. What a wonderful treat it was from the perfectly crafted Mint Julep served in a silver cup to the fantastic brussel sprout appetizer to our excellent entrees and dessert, we highly recommend this restaurant.
We had time issues and our server was great in this respect.
A do not miss restaurant in Lexington!
Service was terrible. We were ignored for quite a while before our order being taken. Waitress walked by us on at least five occasions and said nothing to us. Salad was pretty good, but was not really "entree" size as the waitress indicated and cost $19. NO SALAD is worth that unless it feeds 4 and contains shrimp right off the boat. Will not go back.
The restaurant features farm to table cuisine that is deliciously prepared. Five of us had dinner, and everybody loved their selection. A chef's special was pasta with chef-found morel mushrooms and fiddlehead ferns. Our friends loved the dish. The menu also contained chicken and rabbit which were delicious Lee prepared. The wine list was extensive.
Great food, atmosphere, very peaceful and civilized. Visit the Julep Cup trip from Maryland to Lexington (3 times per year)
This is our go-to spot for special meals in Lexington when we visit our daughter - so of course we landed here one hour after she got engaged to her now-fiancé on Saturday night! Traditional Deviled Eggs were the perfect start... the groom-to-be celebrated with the dry-aged ribeye (and some bourbon, of course), our daughter had the Steak Frites - both cuts perfectly cooked. My husband and I enjoyed the local trout - with cowpea ragu ... a winner in a savory broth with greens. The live music was the perfect touch for a magical night! This place is a gem. Make sure to start with drinks in the bar area...
The food portions were very generous and the atmosphere was unique. Enjoyed it very much!!
The Julep Cup exceeded our expectations! The food and service was exceptional! The atmosphere was elegant, but warm and charming. It would be a great place for a date night! The menu they presented was brand new this week with all the food items coming from local farms in Kentucky which made it unique but delicious! I would highly recommend giving this restaurant a try!
Lovely meal in a cozy space. We will return when we return to Lexington.
Had a very nice dinner on patio with friends. Jesse was a great server and took care of all our needs. The fried rabbit was excellent. We will be back.
Lovely Saturday night dinner. Excellent food. Live saxophone music was great!
Had a great experience! Highly recommended! Wine list was extensive. Food was amazing. Service was solid. We had the charcuterie board which was beautifully presented, as was the fish special- scallops. Will be back.
It's always a treat to dine here. Loved the fried green tomatoes. We both had the shrimp and grits. I don't know what they do but this is the only place I get grits. Service was very good never had an empty glass. We'll be back!!!
Had our anniversary meal there and had a delightful experience.
Quite simply one of my all time favorite local spots! Never rushed, always cared for by extremely pleasant staff and the food is excellent.
Last year this was one of my favorite restaurants. Usually has a good crowd, special music, and great food that you could count on. Valentine's Day dinner was not this way. NO one was there, the food was just so-so, and when they overcooked our steak and the pasta was mushy it kind of put us over the edge on experience. Hopefully they will shape up.
Atmosphere was fine, nice for special events, food was average for the price
Upon arrival the interior was classical and very Kentucky. The food was bland and a basic martini with lemon twist had a weird taste. This restaurant wants to be more than it can provide. Our server was nice but not knowledgeable about the entree items and not very attentive. This should a last resort based on the other option for Lexington.
Although we've enjoyed this restaurant multiple times over the recent years, each time it seems to get better & better. The menu is continually freshened and each item that we've tried has been excellent. At this most recent dinner, everything was delicious and of very high quality, from the Shrimp & grits to the Beef Wellington (a special that day). The wine menu is extensive and grouped from least to most expensive, fitting well in the budget. My only problem is that this dining establishment keeps inspiring me to over-indulge; otherwise, I'd be here much more frequently.
Had the beer cheese appetizer. Great portion and good flavor. I ordered the Salmon BLT which was good but would have been better if the bread was toasted. Salmon seemed very fresh. My wife ordered the eggs benedict on fried green tomatoes. Order came out on english muffins instead. Server offered to have them brought out but we were most of the way through our lunch. Really felt she could have offered something off the bill instead. There was almost no one dining when we were there (around 2pm). It might be a different vibe when its more crowded. There was a baby shower going on in one of the rooms. Would probably be a good place to host something like that, but not sure I would go again for lunch.
We were in our way to a fundraiser, so we thought we would try the Julep Cup. We were thrilled, and we will return. It's a nice, calm Place, and the food, service, and bar are terrific.
We were very early and the only ones in the restaurant. Food was delicious and service exceptional.
I had the squash ravioli and was very disappointing . The ravioli was barely filled, so it felt like I was eating plain pasta. The dish was not worth the price.
I enjoyed the atmosphere but that was it.
My boyfriend had the shrimp and grits which he said was very good. Don't think we will be back to try again.
food was excellent. The restaurant was not noisy which was perfect for conversation with a party of 6.
We visit our son who attend UK Law and always visit the Julep Cup. The convenience, excellent chef and great service never disappoint along with a great list of bourbons. We will visit every time we are in Lexington.
