The Jolly Farmer
The Jolly Farmer now had a state of the art exclusive dinning pod, it can fit up for 8 people and is the perfect place to spend your evening
The Jolly Farmer is a historic pub located in the beautiful countryside of Cookham Dean. The pub dates back to 1788 and many of its original features are still in place. Since 1987, The Jolly Farmer has been owned by the community.
We serve a selection of traditional pub dishes and wood fired pizzas.
If you're longing for a warm fireplace during the cold months, then come and keep warm next to one of our toasty log fires. We also have a stunning beer garden, offering the best spot in Cookham for a refreshing drink or an alfresco meal when the sun is shining.
And for the children, we have our popular play area, so the whole family are welcome to have a Jolly time, even the dog.

Our children loved the playground and we all loved the food! It’s such a beautiful setting with a lovely garden and a really nice ambiance. The steaks and pizzas were the best we’ve had! We also felt extremely safe as all of the tables are very well spaced apart from each other. So definitely worth a visit, especially if you have young children!
As always, the garden is lovely. So are all of the personnel. It’s always a delight to sit in the garden.
But the fish and chips were dreadful. Overcooked and hard. The fish did not taste fresh. The last time I went the fish and chips, the fish was undercooked (raw) and the battery mush, so that I had to send it back and order something else. This is disappointing as the fish and chips used to be one of the best meals on the menu. Good thing we brought the dog along…he enjoyed the fish.
But I can’t say we will be returning any time soon. Or I will just need to find something else to eat.
We visited many times before Brexit and Covid and always liked it. The place now has real problems with young untrained and unmanaged staff, who do to the best of their capability but clearly lack skills and guidance.
The ordering system online doesn't work well and has real problems with payments, and it's unacceptable to have to pay before getting the food when sitting in a restaurant.
The food arrived in waves, main first, starters later, kids' food as last.
It would have been a disaster if we had not been in a good mood willing to enjoying the day out.
Where was the pub owner or manager? The guy at the till (Marcello) tried his best but had too much on his shoulders.
At least the food was pretty good.
A really lovely pub with tasty, well-priced food and friendly staff. Recommend a visit.
Overall good experience, service was a little slow and we had to ask how to order food/drinks. There is an app to do this but no signs or anyone to explain the process. Having said that, it is our only criticism as the food was lovely and extremely good value for money. We will be back.
Ate inside and then moved to garden and a lovely warm fire.
What a fantastic Father’s Day at the Jolly! The staff were so helpful and friendly and the service was excellent. We had a mixture of roast beef, pasta and burgers and all were delicious! All of our meals were hot, fresh and very tasty! All-in-all an excellent afternoon and lunch. Many thanks to all of The Jolly team who made our Father’s Day so special!
Unfortunately the pub were not prepared for what they would have known was going to be a busy day. Over half the menu choices were unavailable and the quality of what we were able to order was sadly very bad.
We had high hopes for a nice casual pub lunch but feel absolutely no effort was made.
Relaxed and tasty
Was disappointed that there was no Sunday roast on Fathers day, quite limited menu overall but still a nice day out and the pod was something different, really liked that
The service was incredible. Everyone polite, attentive and willing to make the experience all the more enjoyable. It wasn't clear online that the park was closed for children, which was probably the only disappointing part. The food was hot, well cooked and seasoned and large in portion size. Overall an enjoyable experience that we'll most definitely be making a regular visit to
Great to be able to eat at a friendly local pub again. Good choice of delicious food, well presented and served without delay.
Relaxing evening in the lovely garden with delicious food and great service, perfect
We had a really enjoyable lunch at The Jolly Farmer yesterday. The food was delicious and the garden is lovely with a cosy ambience and some nice quiet background jazz music playing. They have a very cool ”pod” which looks fun and hope to book next time we go. I had the Frutti Di Mare spaghetti and my husband had the Ultimate Jolly Burger. Both meals were excellent...so tasty!
It’s a beautiful and quiet place for a meal with family/friends, staff are accommodating and friendly. The pod was great, we were given a speaker to play our own music the ambience was great. Only thing I’d say is the pricing is abit dear for basic grub. But good experience overall for a quiet scenic pub.
Efficient friendly service.
Excellent value for money
The staff compared to other pubs in the area have nailed it.
Will definitely be returning
Nice food at very good prices. Staff all very polite and there's a lovely big garden to enjoy the long summer days in.
Great pub. Great food. Great staff.
Excellent food and service as always. Staff were very attentive
Fabulous country pub! Huge, pretty garden with an amazing pod in it and great quality food at a very good price considering the generous portions! Online app very easy to use and food and drinks all appeared quickly. Happy & attentive staff made for a very pleasant first visit!
Have to order with App. so should be easy. Not all drinks available nor the alternative offered. Starters came at same time as mains! Had to send one back as did not match order request (included in notes to kitchen via App). Told no alternative so refunded. Didn’t bother with trying to order dessert as lost confidence.
Very nice and pretty garden but the ‘contactless’ menu means that there is li
Never felt compelled to leave a bad review before but the food was so inedible and over 90% of the food was actually left on the plate. The staff cleared away 4 full plates and wasn't in the slightest bit interested when we said we weren’t happy with the meal. Managers reaction was just to stand there and not speak and then say no one else has complained. We were clearly the last food orders before the place closed as the chicken burgers were rock hard from being re heated and could have caused an injury to someone if thrown at them. Needless to say would never go back again, not least because of the poor food but also because of the managers handling of the situation.
Lovely place with good food and friendly staff. Big outdoors garden for social distancing.
lots of people running around and trying hard but overall it seemed badly organised.
Food is very expensive for what you get. Burger is the bun and fries. any toppings such as tomato, lettuce have to be asked for separately as a salad.
Kids pizzas @ £10 a pop with nothing else says it all.
Very enjoyable would definitely go back good and varied menu choice
Great beer garden & superb food. The burgers are just amazing!
Food was average. Infact the gravy was sour and it was not enjoyable at all.
Fantastic as always in every respect! A real gem 😃
Kids loved their pizzas & are looking forward to when the playground re-opens. Our beef stroganoff and salmon linguine were both excellent. Had a great time & will be back again soon for sure!
Not up to their usual standards. Food took ages to arrive after ordering on the App!! Chicken was tough and overcooked and very salty!! Green beans overcooked. Staff were trying their best but I won’t be going back until things improve!! Very limited choice on the menu. Would rather try out the other pubs in Cookham with a wider choice on their menu, especially for vegetarians!!
Really nice evening, great drinks, warm & dry in the marquee. Food delicious.
The food was okay
Chicken was very tough
Dessert was cold
Good choice of food & very nice garden. App was way to use and quick service. Food was excellent. Recommended.
Came mid-afternoon with my girls and they loved their pizzas and my roast beef was delicious! App was easy to use, food came out quickly and service came with a smile. Happy days!
Delicious Sunday lunch. The app was a bit of a faff to work. Great outside space too.
The food was really nice, we all enjoyed our meal but the service wasn't particularly great which wasn't the fault of the staff but their ordering system. It is all now done on an app, all our food came out at different times, we had starters coming out before mains, some of the parties food was completely forgot.
Plus also the wait time was too long, it took about an hour and 15 minutes for us to receive the food once ordered & that was the quickest.
Ordering on the App was impossible. Understaffed couldn’t get anyone to help but eventually a young waitress did her best.
Disappointing food a long wait for the food. After asking 3 times and a 30min wait for our granddaughters ice cream . Will not be returning.
Good food and great service. Plenty of outdoor space for kids to move aorund.
Food amazing but staff don't know about drinks, asked how much it was for a jug of pimms, he said £8 so I ordered a jug, guy came out with a glass, I said I asked for a jug, he went away and came back with a jug of pimms and soda. Pressed the button on the table twice and no one came, eventually someone came over and changed it. After our meal I asked for the bill and saw that the jug of pimms wasn't £8 it was actually £24, I told the lady that I was told it was £8 and I wouldn't of had it if I new it was that much. She didn't care all she wanted was my money. This was the first time I I've been to the jolly farmer as it was recommended by a friend but will NEVER return as they don't really care about new customers, just their money.
