The J Bar - Olathe, KS
Sip. Savor. Socialize. The J Bar is your destination for work or play. We can’t wait to see you for your next meal, special occasion or just a case of the Mondays.
Located inside the Embassy Suites Olathe hotel, a the intersection of K10 & Ridgeview.
Food quality, mixed drinks, and ambience matched the location (standard hotel restaurant). Our server was very good, though!
The service wasn’t bad. The two gentlemen they had servicing the few diners in the restaurant were nice. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated and eclectic. It was the food. My friend and I ordered appetizers which looked like they had been prepared and had been sitting in a fridge since 5AM and they were taken out, zapped in the microwave 12 hours later. We were so appalled we didn’t eat one bite and left without ordering dinner.
This is the second time I've been to this restaurant and again the steaks are outstanding for the quality and the amount of food that you get in the quality of steak anywhere else it would be 10-15 $20 more for the same thing again hotels are becoming a destination to dining because they're making sure that these restaurants have certain Chef staff and a certain number of people in there to maintain a standard and these guys did it the steak was awesome the service was awesome everything I would recommend it you will not find a better deal there Gorgonzola steak is excellent.
A real nice place that seems to be little known. Always good food and service and its quiet. You can actually talk to your date.
I hosted a meetup event at The J Bar Olathe. The service was amazing, food was tasty and the ambiance was class and elegant. I would highly recommend this location for business events or business dinners.
The food and presentation of the food was spectacular! There were 4 of us and we all ordered different items, and we all enjoyed the lunch we ordered!
Had a great time. Service was fantastic (Olivia was a delight). Will definitely return!
Our group of 8 enjoyed a quiet lunch. The man who apparently was in charge on Dec. 7 was very helpful, friendly and professional.
Whoever is in charge of advertising did a good job at getting me to come to this restaurant; however, once I was there, it lacked appeal. The ambiance is modern and I liked the decor/lighting/color scheme. The menu could have had more options. All 4 of ours meals we would rate as nothing special. We expected more. At least the cheesecake was good. Our server rarely smiled. She’s wasn’t a joy to be around. We had originally wanted to do a reservation for 6 people, but the OpenTable reservation showed there were no openings at the time we needed. We decided to keep it to 4 for this reason. I was discouraged when we got there because we were the only ones there at 6pm on a Saturday night! They could have accommodated the full 6 like we originally wanted!
This is a fine place for a nice evening with friends in the KSC area. Good bites to share, nice cocktails and a nice wine selection. Last night the live music was great and the overall decor and ambience made our evening very enjoyable.
I really enjoyed my Turkey burger it was outstanding! On the side I got asparagus, and I would say I was only given 5 and it would of been nice to have given more. Also, I think for burgers you should always have a vegetable option for the side.
We had a very good meal on a week night. It was not too busy and was not noisy. Our waiter was the best...but the only one in the dining room. We are locals and will be back!
One of the worst experiences for food I’ve ever had. Steak came out wrong... got it back cooked right but it still wasn’t edible. No managers around... server didn’t care whether I ate it or not. No apology and paid a bill of under $100.00. We are Hilton rewards members and this is a slap in the face for Hilton. I hope something changes because the atmosphere is amazing.
Great ambiance and decor- food was very good. Great quiet place for a business lunch. People haven’t found it yet.
The food and service was good, but they were not prepared for us. I had made the reservation for 8 ahead of time in hopes that they would have our table ready when we arrived. The bartender was the only server and she had no idea that a large party was coming. She had to take the time to push some tables together while we waited. That was the whole point of making the reservation in the first place!!
The service was terrible. The waiters were completely rude and no one took our order for 20 mins. Then after she did we rarely saw her again and it took us forever to flag her down for the check. The food was definitely average. Not the best bar food. The view and music was great though. Definitely would not recommend for anyone going on a date or want a fun dinner/night out.
JBar can’t be beat for the view around K10 in Olathe. Appetizers and Drinks are very good. If crowded the service can take some time but they will get your order right and the quality has been excellent. We visit the JBar often and on nights with live entertainment it’s a very enjoyable evening.
Our experience was disappointing at best. We had heard excellent things from many sources. While the food was ok, the service was the worst we’ve ever had. We ordered drinks when we sat down and they never came. Food was dropped off without silverware or napkins. And one server did not come back until we flagged her down for utensils and napkins. We asked for a dessert menu when our food was gone and 15 minutes later we opted to flag our server down again for the check instead. After giving her our card to pay, we watched her run the card and then walk around to other tables for 10-15 minutes before returning with our card.
Atmosphere was great, but unfortunately we will not recommend or go back due to service.
This was my wife and I's second visit because we wanted to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary, the first visit around Easter of this year (2018) was good; however this time it was a different scene. The staff was pure lazy, the bussers and hostess were too busy watching TV as the bartender was doing everything, and didn't do anything. We waited 15 minutes to place our order after we were told by the bartender "I'll be right back to take your order." The food came and was disgusting, we both got the 50/50 Burger, and the flavor was horrible, I'll leave your imagination as to what it tasted like. We will not be dining in this establishment again, and it was a complete was of almost $50.00 spent. I would have fired the hostess and busser had I been the manager, and I feel sorry that the bartender was doing all the work and having to share his tips to his lazy co-workers that weren't doing anything. My advise go to one of the local restaurants around this hotel and save yourself the trouble from a service and food/taste of food point of view; you will be glad that you did.
Horrible. Food was lousy. Service was extremely bad. We actually had to refill our own water glasses.
Food was good needed more bus help an omelette bar would have been great
Highly disappointing. I made reservations for my kids and me to have brunch at the J Bar for Mother's Day. We arrived at our scheduled time. When we checked in, we were told they would be seating us shortly. After 20 minutes, I checked to see how much longer (it felt as if we had been forgotten). The host said she would seat us right away and we were escorted to a hotel conference room with a buffet. Not the restaurant. I understand that Mother's Day is a high volume day, but I did not make reservations to sit in a windowless, generic conference room. As such, I told the host that we would not be staying. She replied that she understood and another family was outside also having made the decision not to stay.
The most frustrating was that I did not know this was an option, would not have made reservations if I realized that was where I was going to be seated, and by the time I walked away, it was far too late to find seating anywhere else.
I will not be returning.
Mothers's Day Brunch. Great buffet. Shrimp were world class. All the food was fresh and ver good. Great deserts to end the meal with.
For a first-run at a Mother’s Day brunch, they did alright. It’s such a highly competitive space with narrow margin for error. You either get it right or not.
Opportunities to improve:
1. Guests queuing in the lobby while staff mill about the restaurant and bar for a magical, mystical minute marker to tick by—only to begin seating several minutes late—was a big miss.
2. At a brunch buffet, servers bring beverages. Patrons serve themselves. Ours was scrambling the entire time, yet our coffee was empty till refills were requested and water glasses were delivered well over halfway through the meal.
3. Plates were a consistent issue: dirty ones all over the dining room, no clean ones on the buffet, none at all near the desserts (on the bar).
4. At $32 per person there is a standard of quality expected. They missed the mark on too many levels to say it was a value for the price.
A high point... The food was exceptional. Dishes were unexpected, thoughtfully prepared, and consistently replenished.
Chloe our server was great!
See why the place was dead! Service horrible. Waited 15 minutes for cocktails to be served. Dumplings were good but cold. Salads were served after main entree arrived. Food so so. Friends hamburger nothing to write home about. Only 3 ravioli on seafood ravioli entree. Korean noodle bowl very disappointing.
I think this Embassy Suites restaurant has settled on being adequate. We’ve been a few times and the first couple times they were trying hard and when they screwed up the manager was apologetic and comp’ed some of the bill. Easter Sunday we went for brunch and whereas the food could have been good and was from quality ingredients and prepared well, the chafing dishes were not monitored by staff leaving the food old, barely warm, and not appetizing. I mentioned this in passing to the manager when I got up for a run to the dessert bar and he thanked me for the comment. When checking out there was no recognition on the hefty bill and on the way out the same manager blindly smiled at me and the family and asked “how was our brunch”. I said ‘very nice” thank you and left for the last time...
We had a terrible experience with the J Bar. Service was terrible, she was nice but rarely saw us and was delayed with everything. Food was small, flavorless.
I was drawn to the Jbar because of the menu especially the steak selection. I had the Gorgonzola steak and my wife had the strip. The cheese plate and the Deviled eggs were good as appetizers. But, the steaks came and all I can say is phenomenal! The presentation and the freshness of the ingredients. Awesome. My wife had the strip it was great she loved it. Anywhere else each steaks we had would have been $10.00 to $15.00 more each. I will return. Best steak in Lenexa's new growing corridor area off 435 & 95th street. I had been to Grand Street cafe and Ignite twice each in the Month of February for their steaks. Both were great. But, JBar has the steak deal in that area down. I will definitely come back before the place really gets popular and Jack's their prices up.
my wife and I had a very late lunch here during work week. Great food, and not busy at all. Service was first rate.
Last two visits had very poor service which is unfortunate because it is a nice place with good food.
Food was OK. place was dead. No customers....really odd. bartender was good.
A surprising find for my mom and me today! Who knew the Olathe Convention Center had such a cool place for drinks and eats! You need to advertise this place more.
Great food and love the atmosphere!
We enjoyed a nice family get together. Food was great.
There was a little confusion when we first arrived. It was New Years Eve, they were busy. Soon the confusion disappeared. The service was good, timely. The food was very tasty and I would consider reasonably priced. Unique entrees. My wife and I agree we will return to try some of the other items on the menu.
Cocktails were outstanding and our waiter as well. My strip sirloin was OK, but not the quality I expected from the J-Bar - it was a little tough and looked more like a cut of steak you would find at a chain bar & grill. But it was also only $23 so perhaps my expectations for a hand cut steak were too high, but nonetheless, I'll not order a strip steak their again. My wife had the steak tacos and they were delicious.
It was under staffed, took 30 min to get water and never got a menu
Great food and service!
It was an average experience. The food was good but not great. The servers were super friendly. It was a nice quiet place to grab a bite.
