Birthday dinner - lovely food and experience
The steak i ordered was wrongly cooked twice. There was no apology. Nothing was taken off the bill. Moody staff.
It was my 60th birthday present & the staff& food made the evening feel a special event
The decor and atmosphere does not disappoint. Staff were attentive and patient with our party. Slight hiccup when 2 of the 4 starters were incorrect but swiftly corrected. Excellent value for central London and charming ambience for lunch or dinner.
We enjoyed a lovely pre-theatre meal which started our evening off nicely. The service was great and the food delicious. The set menu was a little limited but the food was really nice. We also had the house wine which was lovely. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, even though we were delayed in our taxi. Reservations are only held for 15 minutes after the booking time so if you are delayed you must phone them to let them know so they can amend the booking. I would recommend this lovely restaurant.
Love the place , food , service , atmosphere is brilliant , nice and buzzy
The Ivy champagne especially is lovely
Overall a good meal and a good time. The staff were welcoming and the service good. Unfortunately we were given a table right by the toilet so lots of people going back and forth during our meal. The meal was good except for the french beans which were pretty much raw not al dente and inedible. It was very noisy which was not helped by the loud music which caused the diners to speak louder and louder!
The food is better at lunch time and the atmosphere is more relaxed too. It was very busy even in the early evening when our table was booked for and we felt very rushed. The bar staff are very engaging but the table staff are very purfunctionary and aloof . If I recommend Ivy Market Grill again it would definately be lunchtime not evening
Very busy for pre-theatre suppers. The tables were very close to one another and the noise levels were high. The chips were massively overcooked and one could not spear them with a fork. It is not a place we would recommend for a supper before the theatre.
Overall very good the only disappointing item was at 5 o’clock when the restaurant was fairly empty we were given a table at the front near the door. Not good position and cold and draughty. Having booked weeks in advance would have expected table in the back. Asked to move which we were . Twice running this has happened. John H
The food was good, but it was very noisy and our waiter was always in a rush and we felt like they want us to eat faster and empty the table. He brought the bill but we hadn’t finished our desserts and brinks and we didn’t ask for the bill!!!
Pre theatre dinner menu excellent value at £17.50 for 2 courses or £21.00 for 3 courses with a choice of 3 starters, 4 mains and 3 desserts. Although the restaurant has a number of daily ‘walk.in’ tables available, highly recommend that you book In advance as the restaurant gets extremely busy! We booked for 4.30pm which is when the theatre menu starts, by the time we left at 6.30, they were queuing out the door. We liked the great ambience and service, lovely food and that at no point did we feel rushed - prefect for pre/post theatre!! Will definitely be going back!
I selected green beans from the menu and they appear to have been just immersed in water a served to the table unable to cut them with my knife and tasteless. Plus point they were not charged for
Friendly service. Not rushed. Reasonable prices good menu selection. .
Great food as ever.
Went very late after the theatre. Food came very quickly but was extremely tasty. My daughters duck curry was fantastic and so was my vegetarian cottage pie! We shared a wonderful dessert... too many good options on the menu!
I thoroughly recommend.
The food was absolutely perfect from the portion sizes, presentation and taste. The staff was attentive and engaging providing suggestions and comments throughout our meal. Would highly recommend the Ivy Market Grill to anyone visiting London!
Two of us went early evening for the pre-theatre menu. The food was delicious, good portion sizes and good value for the set menu. Attentive and friendly staff.
We had a very enjoyable evening very friendly & attentive staff. Meal was excellent. During our visit we were entertained by ballet dancers! Very different
Lunch meeting with client, noise level was OK, I could still hear the conversation without straining. Great service, decor, Pumpkin Soup!
A good meal spoiled by the rush in which we were served. We had not finished our starter, when they brought the main course - when did that become acceptable.
But would tell them not to have the lamb rump. Gristle and unrendered fat .
Despite prebooking pretheatre we were first of all to be squeezed into a table near the bar. We requested another table and were seated at the door where the icy blast hit us constantly when the door was frequently open to allow access and exit - groups of people standing with door open to be seated!
Had a lovely evening here. The food was delicious and the staff lovely. We weren't rushed but we weren't ignored either. The waiter asked if we were here for a special occasion, which we were and they really made a fuss of us.
Very well run restaurant - my favourite Ivy (apart from the original!). Food and service always reliable. Also no loud music so can have a civilised conversation.
The Ivy Market Grill is consistently good - I use this restaurant on a regular basis and never have cause to complain.
Service was too fast , finished the starter within 2 mins main course arrived. Felt like a McDonald’s
For those looking for olde worlde charm bang in the middle of Covent Garden then this is THE place to be. The menus offer a wonderful variety to cover all tastes and a tasty meal for different "pockets" i.e price ranges. Well done! This time our table was perfectly situated so that noisy neighbours did not interfere with our talks. I personally prefer a really cold glass bubbly of freshly opened ( a luxury!) and really cold white wine and am slightly disappointed when a resturant can't guarantee that.
Lovely meal in a relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful restaurant. Server was attentive but not overly, food was cooked beautifully.
I could not recommend the Ivy Market Grill in Covent Garden, after eating there on Sunday. Our waiter was abrupt, in a rush and surly. We were celebrating my sister’s 60th birthday with a pre theatre supper.
We ordered a rose wine. When it came my sister commented that it looked like a frizante rose. We both took a sip and said how nice it was. A few minutes later, the waiter rushed over and grabbed the glasses saying that they were champagne for another table. We saw the glasses we had taken off us on the bar for someone else! Eventually we were brought our glasses of rose. When the waiter took our order he was in such a rush (by this time the restaurant really was not that busy). We managed to ask him about the vegetables but he clearly was not interested.
The food was very nice and when it came. We decided not to have desert and within a few minutes the bill was slammed on the table.
We noticed a charge for a discretionary gratuity had been added to the bill. I said I did not wish that to be added. The waiter then said ‘ and do you I don’t me asking why?’
Such a shame for a birthday celebration. We have eaten in the Ivy in Cheltenham and the service was outstanding.
Excellent meal, would highly recommend. Looking forward to the opening of the Cardiff restaurant.
Having been to the Ivy Market Grill once before I was looking forward to returning, however I did not enjoy my second experience. The restaurant was incredibly busy and being seated by the entrance and door to the outside terrace it was both noisy and cold. Unfortunately it didn’t improve when I found a hair in my main course. It was dealt with very well by the attentive staff, however overall I did not enjoy my experience with the Ivy Market Grill.
Lovely meal, in fabulous surroundings
I came here recently for my belated birthday celebrations over the weekend and we had such a lovely evening. The food (and especially the sauvignon blanc) were amazing. Thanks so much! Xo
Food was brilliant. Chilled environment. Would go again.
The choc bombe was brilliant
The Ivy was a lovely experience, service was excellent very helpful. Food was wonderful full of flavour that melted in your mouth.
The setting was ideal for a birthday celebration. Service was attentive, welcoming and very suitable.
The menu was slightly restricted, but certainly attractive. The Chicken Milano was slightly dry, but the Salmon was very much enjoyed. Altogether a very memorable event! (Nice touch with the birthday cake and candle for a boy and girl)
Excellent food in terms of quality and cooking. Excellent attentive slick service and I am very particular about this! The service couldn't have been any better. The restaurant was very busy but we were in our own little bubble so it was not intrusive. Highly recommended thank you for a lovely experience.
Lovely service, atmosphere and food. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
I love the Ivy restaurants. Such a fabulous menu choice, the atmosphere is fun, inviting and energetic, and cocktails are delicious!!
I especially enjoy the decor! Highly recommended - go see for yourselves.
Food nice, service hit & miss. Be aware that table is only for 2hours, we weren't & to be told halfway through that we needed to vacate table split lunch for us. We didn't have time for dessert or extra drink, so they lost out on more spend!!
Also had to ask for service not always forthcoming.
Food standard is lovely, but with 12% service added total experience needs to be better!!
Also we were seated near the door & we were cold as door frequently opening with people queuing to get in. Not acceptable in winter, needs to be addressed.
Overall I would recommend trying, but request a table at back of venue & extra time especially if for a celebration.
