Me and my boyfriend ordered a medium rare Sirloin steak and it came to our table cremated and the chips were chewy and potatoless
Food was delicious and wonderful. Our waiter was lovely and very patient with us when we weren’t ready to order. However, the ambience and evening was totally spoiled when after we had had our desert, turned down coffee and all things apart from our water glasses had been removed from the table, another gentleman staff member came up to us to remind us that we only had 15minutes left of our 2 hour slot and could we keep that in mind as they had another booking for the table. I have eaten in many places over the world and this has never happened before. I was not at all impressed! I did mention it to the duty manager at the time who was very apologetic but it should not have been necessary for him to have said anything at all as it was clear that we were at the end of our meal and were waiting to ask for our bill.
We are from New Zealand and this is our second visit to Ivy Market Grill. We returned because our visit last year was an outstanding dining experience and we were not at all disappointed this year. Our Brazilian waiter was courteous, friendly and efficient. The food maintained the high standard we enjoyed last year. The three of us are late 70s, early 80s and all have some minor hearing loss. It is not surprising that such a deservedly popular restaurant is a little noisy but accept that is unavoidable.
We will probably return to London next year and, if so, the Ivy Market Grill will remain on our "wish list"

The service was outstanding and the food was wonderful as well. It was my birthday whilst I was there and they brought out a little cream cheese tart which was lovely of them.
Nice atmosphere and always great food at the Ivy Market Grill, this is our third time eating there.
Been a regular user of this restaurant for several years and always felt it was not only excellent food but also good value. Recent new menu introduced with new prices of course. £22 for sea bass? Really?
This was our first visit to the Convent Garden Ivy Market Grill, and we were a group of six (with two children). It occupies a good central location, with round tables for bigger groups, which is always nice. The service was friendly and accommodating, although one starter came out so long after the rest that the others had all but finished. Not good. The food itself was average UK fare - reasonable quality, reasonable portions and reasonably priced. The monkfish and prawn curry looked like best of our choices...
An excellent breakfast with attentive service in a wonderful setting.
Dinner for 4, food all of a decent standard and service reasonably consistent. Enjoyable evening. Very over priced for what we had though, £250 for 4, only 4 alcoholic drinks in that total
Food was very good (salmon and asparagus), cocktails were nice if slightly overpriced. All was let down by the terribly slow service and rude staff. I had to ask a waiter to take my starter plate away, and several members of staff were stood chatting rather than attending to tables. It lets down the Ivy brand name, other branches are much better.
The service was too pushy. The waiter wanted to take starters and mains order at the same time even though we were not ready. The food was disappointing.
The food is rather dull. Always the same and the pre theatre menu which we chose, was frankly quite unpleasant. Gristly over grilled chicken salad, an unbalanced grilled haloumi concoction. It’s over priced. Fills up with all us pre theatre/opera types and takes advantage! Don’t recommend. Chelsea and Kensington are miles better.
Pre Theatre dinner. Our waiter Vladimir was excellent and attentive. Food was very good as expected. Used main menu as PTD limited.
We were given a table far to small for the 2 of us. We couldn’t fit our tea, coffee, toast, water and glasses on our table and had to use the table next to us for some of the items. What was so wrong is that the Restuarant was very quiet and they should have given us a bigger table. When I mentioned to the waiter we hadn’t enough room as we had different drinks and toast he replied that probably a bigger table would have been better. Meal was nice but could have been hotter especially the beans. My husband and I both agreed the Cumberland sausages were under cooked and we left them. Very polite staff though. Not the experience we had expected as our son who lives in london recommended it.
We were a party of 4 and initially the hostess tried to sit us at a semi circular table in a corner and we asked for a move and did get a traditional table for 4. We are fans of the Ivy in Richmond for quality ambience and value. This was not as good. The food is nice but the portion sizes were small and not good value especially the Shepherd's pie and the swordfish. The only other comment is that the background music was way too loud and to be honest wasn't even pleasant music. It was so loud that we were struggling to have a conversation with our friends. I asked if it could be turned down but was told it wasn't possible.
I am a bit annoyed that the only beers/lagers are all small bottles priced around the £5 mark for 330ml. To be fair this is profiteering at a level that leaves a bad taste. These bottle probably cost under 50p each to buy in bulk by a large company like the Ivy and a 10x mark up is not on. Why no draft beers?
Overall an OK experience.
It was perfect
Great service, great food, great experience. Staff were very accommodating. We really enjoyed our meal and the small birthday treat at the end was lovely!
Lovely food, had brunch, couldn't eat it all. Fresh orange is freshly squeezed. Lovely setting, food, drink, staff
Service was curt at best until I finally got up to get my own water and coffee from the bar, while our server was still laughing it up with a table. Our table however was dry on drinks for a while, even though when food was dropped at table nobody came back to refill beverages or asked if we needed anything else. Sub-par service devalued the work of the kitchen.
Get place to meet friends. Good atmosphere with great staff and good reasonably priced food.
Would definitely recommend.
Great food, good selection, lovely place however was a shame it is so tightly packed in. You feel very squashed and it hinders the service as the staff are rushed and stretched.
Sitting out on a summer evening in Covent Garden was lovely. Food very tasty and well cooked. Verging on the expensive but, hey, you’re in Covent Garden what would you expect!
Excellent choice for an evening meal. Very busy as expected creating a good atmosphere. Food choice very good and high quality. Only slight criticism is that wine is expensive but it is London!
Superb customer care and awesome atmosphere
Already looking forward to going back
Busy Saturday pre theatre booking. Service was haphazard, there were long gaps between seeing the waiter. We ordered drinks then starters then mains, everything arrived within 2 minutes of each other so didn't feel like a meal, more like a buffet. The table was very sticky and needed either a good clean or re varnishing. I think they were very short staffed as they were turning people away but some tables remained empty for thd entire 2 hours we were there
Will definately be back and will recommend to all our friends. The food was outstanding and the staff were very efficient and friendly. An overall outstanding experience. It made the evening for our visit to the the Savoy theatre which is a 2 minute walk away. Not a better place around for a pre theatre meal
Very enjoyable experience food lovely and service very good
Lovely food and atmosphere, great location and good service.
Bit of a mixed bag. The setting and the staff were very good (waiter was very helpful around my wife’s allergy).
However, while her cooked breakfast was great my Eggs Benedict was very poor. While the eggs were poached well, the rest of it was very dry and under seasoned.
Food was good. Service was uneven. We had a nice hostess but our waitress was hot and cold. She really rushed us towards the end - tried to take our plates when one of us had not yet finished. Throwing plates on the table when we asked for some because we wanted to share our desserts - we were too full to have one each! Overall, the place needs to improve on their service.
A Great atmosphere, very buzzy, was with my friends and we all thought the food was excellent, a good varied selection. The lobster and samphire Risotto starter was amazing, then I had the salmon which was really tasty, Didn’t quite manage a desert, but they looked yummy
Staff were very attentive! Will definitely return
Food portions small. Prices are an extortion. Tasteless food. You are paying to dine at The Ivy and not the food.
Excellent service, venue and food. Thank you
The service at this restaurant is always exemplary and this time the customer service was exceptional. We had dinner booked for 5.15pm but unfortunately our train line was suspended so we called ahead to let them know we were going to be very late. We eventually arrived just before 6pm, quite stressed and let them know that we had to leave by 6.40pm as we were attending the opera house. They sped through our food and drinks order and by 6.15pm we were eating and drinking. Unfortunately we only had time for 1 course but it was as delicious as always, steak cooked to perfection, steak tartare and chips (sublime) and fish cake. Our waiter knew how worried we were about the time and was reassuring and attentive to make our meal very enjoyable, even calming our stress! Such warm, courteous and professional hospitality makes this one of my favourite restaurants and the food is always gorgeous. Love this place!
A superb dining experience where everything that you might want of a restaurant is there.
Really great meal with friends. We all ordered different dishes and all enjoyed our dishes . House red wine was great and not expensive.
Very good and lovely staff. I forgot my phone in the loo and they kept it safe till I could pick it up in the morning.
It was lovely in every way!
We had a late lunch here which was lovely. The parfait and salmon and crab open sandwich were delicious. And my rum baba dessert was wickedly tasty.
Service was very good. Definitely recommended.
Delicious food. We have eaten at several of the Ivy restaurants and this was by far the best food. Service was very good but compared to others, particularly Brighton, the decor was a bit gloomy.
