We celebrated both our son's engagements at the Ivy Inn and were delighted we did! The delicious food with every course, the ambiance and the wonderful service will bring us back every time! The attention to detail to allow for a special evening; the customized menus congratulating the two couples along with a lovely dessert with Congratulations in chocolate made the night one we will remember for years to come! Thank you Ivy Inn! Such a lovely evening!
One of my favorite meals ever. They made it surreal for my great friend Ethan’s celebration. Next time I am in town, I may go here every night. Thanks!!!
The Ivy Inn was the perfect spot for our wedding anniversary! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We will definitely be returning!
This is my number one restaurant to enjoy a romantic evening with first class dining. My only recommendation is to request, if possible, seating downstairs, as I’ve found the ambiance there much better. It may be coincidental, but the two times I’ve ever been seated upstairs, the other guests have been “energetic” aka obnoxiously loud and inconsiderately so. I’m not one to confront, but it can be a downer when your date has to shout over the competition socially distanced across the room. No fault of the Ivy Inn, can happen anywhere, but worth raising up when reserving a table, I think.
The food was excellent, I had the trout , which was amazing.
Awesome service and very thoughtful recognition of our anniversary by printing happy anniversary on the menu and a celebratory glass of champagne. Food and service were excellent and the atmosphere on the patio was amazing!
Fantastic place and fantastic food. The waitress was so nice and friendly.
As usual, the Ivy Inn was excellent. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville, and it never fails to impress us. Service was excellent and the food superb. It made for a wonderful Easter meal. We will return often. It's a treasure!
Exceptional service, servers were thoughtful and caring, food was AMAZING. We were there for the prix-fixe menu for Easter brunch and the value, selection and quality was all outstanding, can’t wait to go back!
We loved our meal here. They were extremely accommodating for our kids who aren’t in to sauces and such. Everything was absolutely delicious. We got the trout, filet and salmon. All were outstanding! We will be back for sure. Service was perfect.
Delicious food, wonderful service - we will be back!
Best impromptu vegan dish I’ve had! The chef knew my dietary restrictions and created a dish that fit my needs. It was FANTASTIC
Will absolutely visit again
Our first time in over a year to dine in a restaurant post Covid. Now both vaccinated and enjoying visiting our favorite restaurants in person once again. Food was fabulous as was the service!
great restaurant in a historic home-- great food and atmosphere. Highly recommend whether living locally or visiting historic Charlottesville.
Great restaurant. All appetizers and lamb are fantastic. The best in Charlotteville.
We had a lovely birthday dinner at the Ivy Inn in late March. Loved the polenta dish which was very flavorful.
Second time here and another wonderful evening. Great pace of service. Nice wine selection. Homemade bread and home churned butter were delicious. I thought the wild mushroom appetizer was too busy — glaze and cheese distracted from the mushroom flavor. Salad with goat cheese and beets was great - lettuce quite fresh, homemade dressing a perfect complement. I enjoyed the rack of lamb which was perfectly prepared. Accompanying roasted fingerling potatoes nothing special but tasty. The portobello mushroom polenta entree was lovely. Pork chop wasn’t as good as last time. We all enjoyed sharing the large creme brûlée. Total $200 with one bottle of wine including tip.
Very charming and off the beaten path; great for a romantic dinner for two especially if you can get a table out in the courtyard. One of the best restaurants in Charlottesville.
Such a great experience!!! They treated me like a VIP for my bday and the food was incredible! We will be back!
2 birthdays - everything was perfect.
the restaurant was really nice. the waitress was so attentive. we sat inside and there was no noise at all.
Had a most delicious dinner in a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend.
May need secondary assistance to plate and keep up with water on second floor. But the server was fantastic; it was super
Great food in a nice atmosphere. Food reasonable priced and a good variety.
Great food and lovely location.
The reservation was for outside. We were seated next to a closed garage door and closed windows. Nothing about it was outside. The description should be changed.
Great engagement dinner! Bison bourguignon was amazing. Nice and quiet ambience sitting upstairs. Waiter was very good and even brought us a dessert on the House because he said that we didn’t order his personal favorite - sticky toffee pudding. Nice wine selection with fair prices. Highly recommend.
We had the most unpleasant experience at the Ivy Inn this evening (3/20/21). The food was excellent and as usual, there were no issues with the waitstaff.
Our party consisted of my daughter who works at the hospital, and her spouse who is a professional firefighter. I am a member of the VDH, and have just come off a long stretch of 12 hour days of the backbreaking work of attempting to quickly get the good people of our commonwealth vaccinated to end this horrific pandemic. Though everyone in our party have all been fully vaccinated, we are aware of the necessity of continued safety practices. With that said we arrived in masks until seated, and masks were also appropriately worn for two restroom breaks. This evening we were celebrating a very special occasion, and I asked my daughter and her spouse to take a celebratory photo in front of the fireplace. Admittedly, though I was wearing my mask, the couple was not. Much to our dismay, the bartender proceeded to yell at us from behind the bar for not having a mask on when away from our table. Though we are fully vaccinated, though it we were no closer to other patrons than we were while unmasked at our table, though it was only for 30 seconds, again admittedly we were out of compliance with clearly posted rules regarding safety practices at the Ivy Inn.
Please understand that my issue is not with being told to put on a mask. My issue is having a bartender yell at us from behind the bar in front of the entire room of diners due a momentary lapse of reason on our part. We had been following all guidelines up to that point, so it was clear that we were not people who refuse safety guidelines.
In a moment of celebration for a milestone family moment, we made a mistake. Instead of being shown a professional courtesy, we were yelled at in front of the entire room. We were completely embarrassed and it ruined a very important family moment.
Unfortunately, after years of patronizing the Ivy Inn, we will not go back.
This has always been and probably always will be our go to restaurant for fine dining and special occasions. The food is always marvelous and the service always exceptional.
Excellent food well prepared good anniversary outting
It was absolutely amazing! It was our 16th wedding anniversary and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! Food, drinks and service was absolutely wonderful! We will definitely be back soon! Thanks so much for a memorable anniversary dinner!
The upstairs dining rooms are pretty awkward - you can hear every other table's conversation quite loudly, and the music speaker is in the hallway, so it doesn't create quite enough white noise. I would imagine that the downstairs, main dining room is much better and more romantic. The building is cute, but it definitely feels like you are eating in someone's home when you are seated upstairs, kind of like in an awkward empty bedroom with tables.
The food is good, and a good value considering it is fine dining. Our waitress seemed very nervous, maybe she was new.
It was our first time dining at Ivy Inn, and I think if we would go back we would insist on being seated downstairs, or outside on the patio.
Amazing service, food, and atmosphere. The Ivy Inn went above and beyond to make us feel appreciated and welcomed!
Have eaten there 2 years in a row with my wife for our anniversary. Best restaurant in Charlottesville !
The Ivy Inn has the best steak and best trout in Charlottesville, and many other dishes are also excellent. The Old Fashion with Knob Creek Bourbon is superb and comes with one extra large ice cube. The carrot cake is one of the best desserts I've ever tasted.
Overall the Ivy Inn is one of the two best restaurants in Charlottesville, if not the best.
It is what every restaurant should be ...,
My husband had dined previously at The Ivy Inn to entertain clients when he was in town on business. Now that we have relocated here, he wanted to take me out to dinner here for my birthday. I'm so glad that he did! What an enjoyable experience from the specialty cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and birthday dessert. The service was also excellent. I look forward to returning often.
The food, service, and ambience was outstanding. If bison is on the menu, get it. You won’t be disappointed. Top it off with Mom’s Carrot Cake and a cup of their coffee. We found our new favorite restaurant!
AMAZING! Everything from food to service is top notch.
The best restaurant in Charlottesville - hands down
