The Ivy Inn Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We had a great experience at the Ivy Inn! Thank you for makng my 50th birthday so memorable. From the personalized menus, to the special treats , we truly enjoyed evey minute of our dinner! Service was impecable, food delicios and the ambiance perfect. Thank you for the attention to detail and an unforgettable evening!
The flavor combinations of our meals were amazing. The service and atmosphere were also top-notch. This beats all the other restaurants in town for an upscale evening. Portion sizes were great too. I didn't leave feeling cheated (like at some tapas places in town). If you're going to spend the money, you can't beat it.
Truly amazing!! The Ivy Inn is a Charlottesville gem. We choose this restaurant for all of our special occasions! Always delicious. Always welcoming. Never disappointed. Worth every penny and then some. We recommend shrimp and grits appetizer, anything with oysters- salmon, beef tenderloin, anything pasta!, and most definitely the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Bon appetit!
Food (salmon, steak, vegetables) was excellent across the board. Unfortunately service was very slow and then they seemed anxious to rush us out as we were finishing. I assume they needed the table for another reservation and the slow service created a problem.
We had an excellent dinner with similarly excellent service a week before so hope this was an off night for an otherwise excellent establishment.
Will not hesitate to return.
This was our first visit to the Ivy Inn and after our celebration dinner it will definitely not be our last even though we do not live in Charlottesville. Farrell graciously accommodated our very late request to add two additional guests to our original party of four. We were greeted promptly and quickly made to feel special. The service was excellent as our server Simon took very good care of our party. The presentation of the food, the preparation of the dinners was all excellent! They even recognized the special events of two guests in our party. If you want a special evening of dining in a historic restaurant with all of the ambiance, then the Ivy Inn is your place.
We took our parents here for their 50th wedding anniversary. Ivy Inn printed special menus for our table of 10! which are wonderful keepsakes for our families.
The service is excellent. The food is excellent. The ambiance is quieter, in a respect for your fellow diners manner.
Could not have asked for more!
** will note:
When making a reservation for a group that needs ADA considerations, you MUST call the restaurant. They will do what they can to seat you on the first floor.
There is no handicap parking - I walked with my parents up the brick sidewalk, while my husband parked the car. This is not a deal breaker--as theparking lot is reasonably sized, just without handicap parking spaces.
My date and I agreed on Ivy Inn due to its proximity to her residence, the excellent reviews of the menu and the unique and extraordinary wine list. This little restaurant is nestled amidst a commerce area but sets upon it's own island of trees, foliage and grass which adds to it's charming ambience. As we walked in, I felt a sense of relaxation as and rightly so as this restaurant was part of an inn over 200. I had made a reservation (though it was a Sunday - 1/21) and we were escorted upstairs to the first dining room on the left. It was dimly lit, there was one other couple already seated, and we were seated right in front of the fireplace. My date was looking beautiful tonight ( as she does always) and I wanted to treat her to something special. I ordered us the Robert Foley Petite Sirah. This wine had intrigued me when I was perusing the list at home and we both agreed that this was an excellent pick! Such a very smooth, full-bodied red that made it difficult to put the wine glass down! ☺
Our server, whom was working the whole dining room was very attentive and accommodating throughout the night, constantly keeping the water and wine supply up to par.
As it came time to order, my date ordered the bison and a side of Brussels sprouts while I had the beef tenderloin. Our meals were prepared quite well as the pictures below speak for themselves. The steak was juicy and tasteful as was the bison. My date gave me 2-3 pieces of the bison since I, personally, had never had bison before but were I to return, this would be my pick for dinner. The food was wonderful, the wine was excellent and the company was the best part of the evening (no offense to Ivy Inn 😉).
I want to thank Ivy Inn for making this first date a reminiscent event. The comfy atmosphere, the restaurant temperature, the dinner, the libations, the pleasant staff, the spacious and clean bathroom, and the overall "feeling of being welcomed" throughout the evening. This has made my night! 😃☺❤
We wanted everything on the menu, & everything we ordered was beautiful & delicious! We all had appetizers yet still ordered 2 orders of another just so we all could try it! Our waiter went out of the way to create 6 different mini-appetizers of that choice, & amazed us all! Superb service, delicious coffee, & divine desserts......
We have enjoyed dinners at the Ivy Inn many times in the 20 years we have lived in Charlottesville. Angelo & Farrell have created a welcoming dining experience. Always our first choice for local dining.
This time we were with my husband’s golfing friends. Jessica, who makes serving a table of 7 look easy, was our server. My rock fish with oysters could not have been better. My husband enjoyed the perfectly prepared duck.
We highly recommend the Ivy Inn!
Our evening at the Ivy Inn was wonderful. Our server was very attentive—not rushing us or hovering. We had plenty of time to enjoy appetizers before the fabulous entrees arrived. We are never disappointed with Angelo’s mastery in the kitchen and his staff’s service.
This was the first time we visited The Ivy Inn, and it was delightful -- very quiet, attentive but not intrusive service, focus on local food sources. All that we ate (from soup to dessert) was excellent. We would happily return when we are in Charlottesville again.
The restaurant provided outstanding courses on a date that has many restaurants performing below par. We dined on New Year's Eve. All courses presented were delicious. We each had a different main course which were exceptional. The Rockfish with Chowder, Beef Tenderlion, Stuffed Pork Chop and Bison Short Ribs were cooked to perfection. Excellent wait staff too! We will make sure to establish reservations again next New Year's Eve.
We weren’t extremely hungry so we had soup.. he had the lobster bisque over a cauliflower flan and it was amazing! I had the butternut squash soup and it was like none I’ve ever had! We also had the shrimp and grits.....everyone should have this at least once in a lifetime. And we had the butternut squash ravioli....to die for...brown butter to perfection! We will be back!
My Husband and I chose The Ivey Inn for an anniversary dinner while on a trip to Charlottesville to visit Monticello. We were seated at a table with ambiance and our server was aware we were there for a celebration. We shared an appetizer and enjoyed two great entrees and a bottle of wine.
Most memorable ever. Our wedding anniversary, with great thanks to Angelo and his incredible team-. From the welcome on arrival, acknowledging our special event to the glass of celebratory champagne to perfectly prepared entrees ending with creme brulee. Great courtesy and quiet conversation with wait staff- you're amazing.
