The Ivy Inn Restaurant
Great local sourced food. Excellent staff. Fine dining in Cville
The restaurant staff was professional and courteous. Our menu (and dessert later on) had a special message indicating our special event. We had a beautiful evening and appreciate the effort the Ivy Inn put forth on our behalf
Excellent Cuisine & Service!!
My husband and I were in Charlottesville for a football weekend and were looking for a place to eat with good food, and an interesting setting, that was not super expensive. The Ivy Hill Restuarant fit the bill perfectly! I had She Crab Soup and fork tender Blueberry marinated baked quail and my husband had gumbo and beef tenderloin filet done to a perfect medium rare. Each was accompanied with seasonal vegetables fixed in a most interesting way. The restuarant itself is located in an historic frame house that at one time operated as an actual inn. The rooms in the house serve as small dining rooms with 5 to 6 tables for 4. The candles and low watt incandescent bulbs set an intimate mood. Our waiter, Simon was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and efficient.
There is a wine list with enough choices to appeal to most tastes. The wines we had we were so good we called back the next day to make sure we had the name right so we could purchase a bottle to take home.
The menu changes weekly, but always includes beef, lamb, poultry, pasta, trout and vegetarian choices. There are also several appetizers and several salads.
After ordering we were served 2 different kinds of bread, and creamed butter. In addition we were also served toast points with delicious homemade pimento cheese.
I would not recommend this restaurant for young children as there is no child's menu and not the place for bored youngsters.
There is no real dress code, but business casual is appropriate. This restaurant is a good place to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. Reservations are recommended.
Crab cake was the best I ever had. She crab soup was outstanding, The pudding/toffee/ice cream was a perfect ending.
Anniversary dinner, everyone made the day feel as special as it was. Definitely would do dinner here again
This has been and still is our go to restaurant. They get everything right every time!
Best tomato pie I have ever tasted!!!
Great food, service and ambience.
We enjoyed talking with Jess and she took a few pictures of us as we were celebrating a late anniversary. We have a picture from 1981 where is where at a wedding reception and are now celebrating 37 years of marriage. We had Charlie as our server, and understand he was new, but he did an amazing job and would enjoy having him again. The food was delicious. We had the ham biscuits, fried green tomato and baby arugula salad, grilled certified angus beef tenderloin, and Maryland style jumbo lump crabcake. The only suggestion we have is we each had the pear dessert with vanilla ice cream and it was good but very sweet. Either serve half of the amount and reduce cost, serve the pears and ice cream only, or keep like it is with less crumble on top of pears, it was just too much and too sweet. We are diabetics so maybe even have a dessert for diabetics. We definitely will be back. Thanks for an amazing and delicious dinner. Lee and Tammie Belew
Perfect dining experience! Our server, Lauren, was excellent, as was the food. The lemon meringue ice box cake was truly exceptional. It's no surprise the restaurant has been around for 25 years.
It is not surprising that The Ivy is the #1 rated restaurant out of 406 restaurants in Charlottesville, Va. Our meal was incredible and the service was excellent.
We had a delightful anniversary dinner Thursday evening, greeted with soarkling wine, personalized menus and ending with a "Happy Anniversary" dessert. The crab soup, salmon, and lamb were excellent. The service was gracious, and the other patrons joined us in our celebration.
The food was excellent and our server made the experience even better. Glenda is a true asset to you staff. All in all we have never had anything close to a bad experience dining at the Ivy Inn. It is our go-to place in C'ville for a good meal.
Food was good but a bit pricey. Ambience was terrible. They really should bring in an interior designer, it could be very nice. We had "outdoor" seating which looked and felt like someone's old carport. We've had better atmosphere at a pizza parlor.
We saw the indoor seating when we walked thru, not much better.
Service was fair. Our waiter seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else but did an adequate job.
Overall for the price you might expect a little more. However, must say the food was very good.
Great experience. Loved the simple details
Excellent cuisine and service. I highly recommend for any occasion!
Visit to cville w friends- loved the experience, delicious food and lovely service and ambiance
Attractive establishment...Excellence cuisine. Service is professional. Wonderful experience.
The Ivy Inn is one of Charlottesville's hidden gems. It is one of our favorite restaurants. It never disappoints. We were recently there to celebrate our anniversary. We were welcomed with a complementary glass of bubbly. The menu was extensive which made it hard to choose from all the wonderful selections. I had the trout . I can honestly say it was the best trout I have ever had, perfectly cooked and delicious. Everything was delicious, the appetizers , the entree and the dessert. Dessert came with a beautiful wish for a happy anniversary. It was a wonderful evening!
The only complaint I had was that the ceiling fan was on high and I had to go to the car to get a sweater, but I always seem to be colder than anyone else!
We were celebrating a birthday and they offered us complimentary champagne and dessert! Our waiter was delightful and the food, as always, was amazing!!! The only negative, which restaurants cannot control, is there was a table that was very loud. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience and we will be back!
Ivy Inn has been my favorite restaurant since I came to Cville in 1984. My only regret is that we don't go Ivy Inn more often.
Great place for a recruitment dinner - we even appreciate that special menus were made to welcome our guest. Wonderful food, atmosphere, and service.
Delicious food in a beautiful Court year setting. Highly recommend for a nice dinner.
We had a small table upstairs in one of the smaller rooms which was quiet and very comfortable The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. The meal consisted of tenderloin and rainbow trout...absolutely delicious.
Wonderful food, nice service. No wonder it is at the top of the C’ville food chain.
Food was tasty and creative. Atmosphere was relaxing and service polite and efficient.
Lovely ambiance. The food was mixed - some of it was excellent (salmon for example, and the vegetable dishes) and some of it was just ok (the gnocchi). The service was attentive and they went to extra lengths to accommodate one diners food restrictions. We went for a special occasion, which was mentioned and congratulated (two new UVA students), but the desserts came just plain - they could have written the occasion on the plate in chocolate or put a sparkler on it for example.
A go-to high end spot for a quiet dinner with friends that has never disappointed me. Last night (a Wednesday) was no different. Excellent and friendly service and the food, as always, was spectacular.
An exceptional place for any celebration - lovely atmosphere (upstairs small room); delectable and beautifully presented food; great use of local products and wonderful service.
The Ivy Inn is such a wonderful restaurant. The staff is so lovely and the food amazing. The amuse bouche are worth the trip all by themselves!
Great food and attentive service.
In essence a very nice setting for a very well prepared meal and conversation in a rustic home like setting. The appetizers were especially creative including the squash blossoms, the tomato pie, snd the wild mushrooms. A traditional New Orleans gumbo was also excellent. The main courses were a bit less exciting but quite delicious and both fish and meat dishes cooked to order. Service was what you expect for a fairly upscale restaurant without being intrusive. The overall experience was quite enjoyable but falling just short of highest value 5 stars.
Ivy Inn is the most consistent restaurant in town. The food and service are both always impeccable!
Just an all around great experience.
Excellent place for special occasions, we had a great time!
Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary here. Food and service both excellent. We ate outside , which was very quiet.
Our whole experience was delightful! The food was delicious, and the service excellent. We appreciate that the timing of the courses was just right. Too many restaurants lately bring out the entree when one is still eating the first couse! Not so here. If we had any quibble, we would like a few more choices in the wine by the glass selection, i.e, more than one choice of sparkling wine. That said, we would highly recommend the Ivy Inn.
Excellent place to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Staff went out of their way to make it a special evening. Dinner was delicious, from beginning to end. Menus and dessert plate were even personalized!
Amazing! One of the best meals I have ever had. My husband and I plan to return whenever we are in the area.
