The Ivy Inn Restaurant
Our menu features locally influenced seasonal American cuisine crafted by our hands-on executive chef, Angelo Vangelopoulos, and his talented team, with inspiration from our incredible local farmers and purveyors. We are located about a mile west of the University of Virginia, in a historic house originally built in the late 1700s.
Visiting the area with my two teenaged kids. We had a superb evening! Delicious food, unpretentious and still phenomenal food in a delightful setting with impeccable service. I think this place would meet anyone’s standards for a fabulous evening.
Consistency is the best to characterize the place. That quality is not learned, it is within you.
I have visited the Inn four times in the last two weeks.
Met by hostess as we entered. Guided us to our table and presented us with customized menu entitled “Happy Anniversary”, and a complimentary glass of champagne.A nice touch. Matt our waiter attentive and helpful throughout our meal. Meal of Trout with a medley of South Carolina Gold rice with diced veggies, preceded by the house salad was great by her estimation. I started with a superb Gumbo accented with four fried oysters which in and of itself would be a meal at a double portion, then followed by Veal Osso Bucco on a bed of creamy garlic polenta punctuated with grilled Brussels sprouts. All good.
Topped off the evening with a chocolate something for the wife and apple crisp w/ scoop of vanilla ice cream for me.
Only our second visit to this venue but we resolved to at least come here for every anniversary.
Ivy Inn for a birthday dinner; the service was outstanding, the food excellent (perhaps a bit pricey) and the only issue was the level of noise in the room that made conversation difficult. Overall, a great experience
We were seated near a party of 8 and the noise level was uncomfortable at best. I was disappointed that they were not more sensitive to this situation, because it was Sunday and there were many options available where we could have been seated to improve our experience.
In general the food was good but too much salt on the beef, and the apple crisp desert was not good. I think the Chef should sample his own products from time to time.... He would surely make some changes.....
All around amazing. My wife and I came here to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. I would recommend to anyone and everyone who visits the area. My only regret is I don't live closer to try more items on the menu!
We had the Polyface Farm chicken. Delicious! We loved having the opportunity to eat such well prepared locally raised pastured chicken. Also highly recommend the mushroom medley appetizer. Service was a little slow, but the place was packed so we understood.
Lovely space in the upstairs dining area. Liked the food and attentive service.
Absolutely a must for any human in the planet. Magical. Thank you.
We were celebrating our anniversary, and the Ivy Inn pulled out all the stops. Great food, exceptional service and lots of nice nods to the special occasion. I highly recommend!
A wonderful place to be with friends and family when you need a quiet atmosphere and tasty food--so hard to find in today's communities much less Charlottesville!
The food was great and the staff was very friendly and attentive. Overall, very pleased with this place and would definitely visit again.
great food, excelent service, good location, a lot of parking space, very noicy (other guests spoke very loudly)
Our party of four had an excellent dinner here on a Sunday evening. We all had different appetizers and entrees, from the favorite shrimp and grits appetizer to a duck entree and the sticky pudding dessert and much more. My 80-something mother had difficulty hearing in the upstairs room due to a loud table of six next to us, which is hard to avoid in close quarters. Always a lovely evening out.
This is hands down the best restaurant in C’ville. The food is always amazing and the service unmatched.
Thoughtful detail to each course! Attentive service. Nice house wine selection.
Had a great tome, service was amazing as well as the food
Greatest dinner experience
The entire dining experience was excellent. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Wonderful experience well priced and would go back in a heartbeat. Lots of reasons, taking our u va son out for a special dinner one of them!
The Ivy Inn Restaurant was great! It was delicious food, the staff was very nice and the atmosphere was elegant.
Wonderful experience. Took the GF for Valentine's day. Food was amazing, priced well, and super friendly service. Would definitely recommend and planning on going again!
A Charlottesville treasure! I LOVE the Ivy Inn! They made my birthday super special and the food was phenomenal!!
We were there for Valentine's Day, the menu was prix fixe for that night. Everything was outstanding with two slight hiccups... our salad course was a little too long in coming, but worth the wait! The room we were seated in was intimate in that it only had four parties of two in it. Unfortunately the people across from us weren't in a romantic mode. The male talked about business the whole time, and the more he talked the more animated and louder he got. Kinda spoiled the tranquility of the room- and of course, I can't lay this at the feet of the restaurant.
I got the quail for my main entree and it was superb; my husband got the tenderloin and it was perfectly prepared. The portions are quite plentiful and the service was subdued and unintrusive- perfect for Valentine's Day. All in all, it was an exceptional evening, but for the non-lovebirds next to us.
I would go back in a heartbeat.
We loved this delicious quaint restaurant. We were traveling through Charlottesville and chose it from the internet reviews. The food, service and ambiance were all outstanding! Our only negative was that we were not informed that there was only a prix fixe menu on Valentines Day. Our waiter was very apologetic and offered to work with us! Perhaps we should have known?! We would absolutely go back again!
Ivy Inn is one of the top restaurants in Cville when it comes to quality of food and the service. The Chicken is a deep sleeper and had unbelievable taste! Highly recommend if looking for a great meal!
The food and service were absolutely the best part. Amazing use of seasoning and local farm to table items. Good vegetarian options. Great wine selections. Super pleasant waitstaff and easy online reservations. The temperature in the restaurant was good. The background music was just right. The old house setting was so nice, and it is great to support the owners' efforts to preserve the heritage.
The upstairs seating was fine for us, but the steep stairs were a slight challenge for an elderly person with arthritis. That should be considered in the online reservation questionnaire or should have asked us on arrival if upstairs seating was okay.
Wife’s birthday dinner was fantastic!
My wife and I had resevations at the Ivy to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The Ivy made it very personal and memorable, The food was outstanding and we would recommend it to anyone, especially those with a special milestone.
Everything about the dinner was great. My husband doesn’t eat beef very often, but he had the sirloin and said it was excellent. I appreciated having the option to order half size vegetarian pasta. It was just right when added to a salad and dessert. We liked the cocktails too. The server, Simon, was perfect. We’ll go again.
Waitress wasn’t friendly or reliable. Had to repetitively ask for butter for the bread and water. Additionally, we ordered two bottles of wine. With both bottles she didn’t refill any glasses. We had to pass and pour ourselves.
Excellent food. We loved each course. The butternut squash-ginger soup was awesome.
My husband and I usually celebrate our anniversary dinner at The Ivy Inn because we enjoy the ambiance, food and service. Our anniversary dinner this year met all our expectations!
For my wife’s birthday the Ivy Inn was perfect. A special menu, a complimentary champagne toast, and chocolate brownies topped it off!
The Ivy Inn is one of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. We went there for our anniversary and it was a pleasurable experience. The staff helped make our night special. The food was outstanding and we’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys a dining experience without loud noise and subdued attention.
Food was amazing! Our server Jason was so fantastic.
Always superb. Food, presentation, service, wine selection....never disappointing.
The Ivy Inn is our favorite Charlottesville restaurant. Every meal is outstanding, the food is impeccable prepared and the service is top notch. Menu is always overflowing with wonderful options. Could not be better!
Great old-home ambiance with a country-French flair; even with a full house, with no visible special acoustics, you can actually have real conversations here. One of our favorites.
A group of eight of us had a memorable dining experience at the Ivy Inn on February 2nd. We were seated in one of the rooms upstairs which was otherwise unoccupied when we were seated. (Another large group came in about halfway through our meal, though that did not detract from our experience.) The service was impeccable -- attentive without hovering. All of the courses from appetizers through desserts, including cocktails and wine, were wonderful. We will definitely return when we are in Charlottesville again.
