Excellent meal and service. A gem, their website does not do it justice. Highly recommend.
The food is excellent but the price of many dishes is unexpectedly high
The best meal we had in New Orleans
Had an excellent server Chino. I have been there servers times and the food was outstanding as always.
Atmosphere and ambience were great! Friendly, courteous service. We ate lasagne and veal. Both were delicious.
After going to a highly reviewed steakhouse the night before and finding it mediocre at best, the Italian Barrel blew us away! From the moment we got there, the smells and the ambiance were just what we were looking for. The manager Blair gave us a romantic little table by the window and we were greeted by our waiter Chino who made us feel at home. We are big foodies and I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for years, so service and great food is what we appreciate most and these guys nailed it!! We had the meat and cheese board that had a truffle honey and onion jam that was just amazing! We ordered the lasagne and mushroom truffle raviolis and they tasted so authentic and fresh, we purposely ate slow to savory every bite! If you need a date night spot or just a great meal among friends, but want to stay close to the quarter look no further! There are many reasons this place proudly displays so many awards on their walls, so do yourself a favor and go find out for yourself!
Great food! Very generous crab in my dish! Excellent meal and would highly recommend!
Excellent service. Good atmosphere. Enjoyed being treated as guests not paying customers! Thanks for great evening. Food was fantastic!
Whenever I go to New Orleans, I make it a point to go to the Italian Barrel. Authentic, intimate and wonderful food and service. I had the gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce and it was heavenly! Always a nice wine selection too!
We live in the french quarter and have eaten at Italian Barrel many times. The food is always 5 Star and the wait staff is phenomenal. I don’t know what happened this time, but it took 1.5 hours to get our food. I hope that this was a one off bad night for them
Great food but expensive.
This was t the best meal we’ve had at Italian Barrell. The veal chop was served cold but the waiter did take back to kitchen. Lamb was ok but not great. The wine choice selected by waiter was perfect pairing.
Awesome Italian fare...is a must stop for me whenever I'm in town
Fantastic experience! Food was wonderful, service was exceptional. A definite must-try.
A gem in the French Market area of New Orleans! A cozy restaurant with outdoor seating. I make it a point to eat here anytime I'm in the city. This visit I was in town for the Rock and Roll Marathon and wanted some good Italian food. I had the Caprese which was excellent. My sister ordered the lasagne (Samantha's sauce is spectacular!) - a large portion for the price. Our server Blair was friendly and very efficient; her knowledge of the specials and all menu items is stellar. I leave the Italian Barrel with a smile on my face and always look forward to my next visit.
I was pleasantly surprised to find ingredients that I used when I loved in Italy. You rarely find a good pasta con noci here in the U.S.
Everything is always good. Love the people there. Really love the way you guys served us and not keep asking if everything is alright every 5 min . Just observing if our drinks needed a refill and taking care of it was great. My wife and I always enjoy the dining experience. We are Randy & Sandy Meadoux see you guys soon. 👍🏾👍🏾
Overall great experience!
I went to The Italian Barrel for my birthday dinner. They decorated the table for the occasion. The food and drinks were phenomenal. Our server was great! I cannot wait to go back and try more dishes on the menu!
I love the Italian Barrel! The wait staff is very accommodating and friendly. It’s just a beautiful little restaurant. We always have a fabulous meal. Took some newbies there for dinner! Now 2 more lovers of the Italian Barrel!
Every time I am here in New Orleans I will return here. This was my 2nd visit and 4th dish each was fantastic
Closest thing to eating in Italy. The food is so good you’ll swear you’re on the island of Capri. Literally my favorite Italian place in the US. Only one down side and it’s that the restaurant is incredibly small. It’s bigger then when we first came 10 years ago but it’s a bit tight. Other than that worth every red cent.
the food was good except the veal parmigiana was not what I expected. A 20%service charge was added to our check for our table of five. We tip 20% as a rule but have never had a tip added for a table of five. Usually six or more.
Very nice restaurant with great vibe. Bruschetta was amazing to start. Service was a bit unenthusiastic but adequate. Not what I would have expected. Odd that an Italian restaurant would be out of spaghetti and tiramisu on the same night!
Friendly servers and manager, good northern Italian food.
Cheese/meat plate was fantastic. We had my 3 children(age 8 to 16) with us and and they all devoured it. All of the Entrees were delicious. We were given great wine suggestions and service. We will be back!
This was our second time eating at the Italian Barrel and it was very disappointing. Our server acted as if she had better things to do besides attend to our table. We ordered a large meat and cheese tray which usually the server explains what each is and we had to flag someone down to do so. We waited entirely too long for our meals as well as drinks. It was not worth the money and certainly not worth the 20% gratuity our server added to our bill for our party of 5.
Our favorite restaurant in the Quarter. Never disappointed.
Overall this restaurant is good. The food was fresh and tasty but small portions. Service needs a little help, we waited 20min before a waitress acknowledged we were there.
Very good overall experience! Always enjoyable
Great food for a very reasonable price. Ambiance was excellent for a quiet and romantic dinner for Valentines Day. Just perfect night and dinner for after Mardi Gras celebration.
We had dinner for the first time. I was excited based on previous reviews. Wonderful food and Service. Will definitely be back.
this place has never let me down , the food is awesome
We have always had a good experience at The Italian Barrel, and our recent meal (on Mardi Gras day even!) was no exception. The food is always wonderful as is the service and the ambience. If you want Italian food in New Orleans this is the place.
Excellent food options and very tasty. My veal portion with linguine was a good size but my partner had one of the specials ... eggplant .. very tasty but really too small to be N entree size.
Well, truth be told, this used to be our neighborhood go to but, pasta dishes at and average of $30, sea bass at $50 and filet at $48...it’s a little out of hand any more. I’ve have a white tablecloth experience at Restaurant August, Arnaud’s, Galitoire’s, Restaurant R’evolution, with professional maitre’d’s, sommeliers and highly trained wait staff at a similar or lower price point. This is a neighborhood pasta joint, it’s not your fine dining experience.
Even more disappointing on this occasion, my husband walked in and they said, sorry, no reservations no seat (mind you we come here often) he said, but there are seats open or we will sit at the bar. The obviously frazzled host said no. So my husband walked out and said we couldn’t get a seat...so I opened open table and took the first available, which was 5 minutes from the current time (and PLENTY of other times available, every 15 minutes for 2 hours). So we walked in and one of the bartenders came up and gave us a hug and one of the waitstaff too, I could see the host rolling his eyes over my shoulder. We sat there for an hour or so surrounded by empty tables. It’s a shame because we love it so much but when the pig becomes a hog, and you walk out with a bill over $200 for a shared app, 2 plates of pasta and a bottle of wine after a questionable front of the house reception...it’s a bit much. We continue to come because we love it and it’s in our neighborhood, but our visits are getting fewer and farther between and a harder and harder to justify.
The food was overcooked. Our mussels tasted like rubber, and had dirt or sand in it. Octopus was very dry and tasteless. Little to no flavor. We had to ask for bread since we were not offered it by our server. Definitely not a good Italian restaurant. Will not be back .
Best hidden Italian restaurant in French Quarter. Nice walk to opposite side of Quarter leads to great Italian food in small cozy setting.
