The Italian Barrel
Authentic food is an understatement - this is the real thing.
14 oz. Bone in veal chop topped with melted Asiago cheese and 24 month aged Parma Prosciutto. Served with a side of 4 cheese potato soufflé'
Fresh pasta filled with Pumpkin, sautéed in butter and sage
Freshly baked with mozzarella, ricotta, besciamella, parmigiano reggiano and meat sauce
Worst food we have had in New Orleans and I’m a foodie ! Staff was friendly but came and took away the heater and never asked us . Then they were embarrassed and never came back to wait on us or even look us in the eye . When we finally got up and hunted down manager to get check out , never offered a discount or free dessert . No one apologized . Don’t wast time or money . Dinner over $200 , manager doesn’t know how to run a restaurant or staff .
Cute enough restaurant and the waitress was nice, but this was not the place to put on your must go-to list. The chicken Parm looked and tasted like a TV dinner, the melon wasn't ripe, and the pumpkin ravioli was ok, but nothing special. I wouldn't waste your time, there are much better places to dine... Oh And they won't accommodate minor changes to menu (asked to leave off the speck- refused) keep searching
wonderful as always
Delicious homemade pasta special and my husband had the filet special. Truly a delight from start to finish.
Invited a friend hadn’t seen in almost 1 year to dinner last night. We had an amazing time…the food was DELICIOUS!! The cocktails and wine were divine, the service impeccable! We were the last two patrons in the restaurant and no one was bothered or asked us to leave…will definitely return!! You must try the Italia salad (tomatoes/bufala), the Veal Porcini, accompanied by Rosso di Montelpucino red wine…yummy!
Fantastic experience. Our waiter was so attentive and helpful and the food is incredible!
Amazing food and very helpful staff at the bar (Kendall and Hannah)!
Food was just ok. Service was slow and our server was un attentive. If you’re looking for great food and overall excellent experience then just go to Irenes restaurant.
Our reservation was for an outside table, and unfortunately the weather turned cold. The only issue was that the restaurant had insufficient working patio heaters. I understand these were newly purchased, and this meant the staff were not fully aware of the operation or signs that the gas was too low.
Atmosphere was pleasant, staff was organized, food was delicious.
We arrived very early for our reservation and the host staff was able to seat us immediately. We took our 8 year old son and the staff made a special butter noodle dish for our pickey little guy. Super friendly wait staff and the food was phenomenal.
We had a beautiful meal as always. The quality of the food, service and ambiance is superb. We dine there often on major holidays and we are never disappointed.
I know it was a holiday, but the restaurant was fully staffed and it took an hour to order a bottle of wine to the table. We were unable to order food until we were already seated for a full hour. Nothing but bread. Good was amazing, service was awful (i waited tables in fine dining, i understand issues but there were plenty of servers and runners).
we have recommended this restaurant to so many friends that we cannot get a reservation anymore. Sam is the best. we have friends who fly in for dinner at the barrel.
I have been going to this restaurant fir years and love it! The food is always great and the service is always good too!
We had a girls dinner there (party of five.) Great ambiance, service, food and wine list. I’m coming back to New Orleans for my birthday next month, and we’ll be dining there again!
I enjoyed my lobster ravioli very much. My dining companions were not as pleased with their meals. We went for lunch but there was no lunch menu so we felt our meal was pricey for a midday meal. The restaurant was quite lovely, fresh flowers on the table, a great setting. Loved the mints!
Excellent true to the Italian culture food and choices. Very attentive and knowledgeable service.
Nice little Italian restaurant, clean, friendly staff. Be sure and make reservations
Very poor service and food was below average. Would definitely not recommend.
My husbands food was good, mine was nothing to write home about (lasagna). Environment felt crowded and loud. The servers were all very nice, but it felt “clunky”, like there was a lack of communication on who was responsible for what; numerous times our waiter noticed we didn’t have bread (which we finally received - and mind you there is no salad with your meal), and after we received our bill the wait staff who delivered our bread asked if we received bread yet.? There is only seating for about 30-4o people and ample staff, but it felt like they were stepping over each other. More hype than what it was worth - in my opinion
The food here is excellent. I felt bad for the only 2 people in the front of the house. They were waiters, bartenders, busters, taking phone calls, etc. They handled it beautifully!!! The wait was a little long, but we didn't mind at all.
I was slightly concerned at the fact that a large group of eight people came in and the waiter mentioned vaccinations, but never asked them to provide any proof. They said "we're all vaccinated" and he said "I don't need to see anything". One of the only reasons I have felt safe dining indoors is due to the fact that in New Orleans they have to provide proof, it gave me a little bit of an uneasy feeling.
Great food and nice location. Wine not kept at proper temperature, which was disappointing at this restaurant’s price.
The italian barrel is a cute little spot next to bourbon street .the hostess were nice and accommodating sitting us inside when our reservation from OT was messed up and showed outdoor .
However in a city like Nola that food is generally excellent the italian barrel was average at best . Bruschetta was soggy covered with mountains of cheese that was a blah 😑! The veal that was overpriced was quite chewy the pasta was ok nothing special .
But the service was a problem way below average for New Orleans who known for Suprier service no recommendations no refill water i had to ask for ice 3 times just little disappointing.
We know its an award wining restaurant so perhaps it was an off night it happens.
Great Italian pasta. Pizza good too. Make sure you book ahead. It’s a very requested place to dine
The food and wine were excellent. Issues with service that are impossible is that part of the garbage goes thrue the restorant to the kitchen while we are eating.
Fantastic food, Totally enjoyable experience! Kendall served us and was a delight!
Amazing Italian food, everything was perfect from the appetizers to the entrees to the desserts.
Visiting New Orleans restaurant was recommended! Great choice will come back again
Had an early reservation at 4:30. Immediate seating, great service from Chris, appetizer and entrée were delicious.
Give him a hug to top at the window. Not much of a view but good people watching.
We will be back.
We had a wonderful time. The wine and the food were excellent.
The food is delicious. I highly recommend the Nicoletta Salad and the Porcini and Truffle Ravioli. They also have a very nice wine selection.
Service and food were very good.
Excellent place for a romantic dinner. The food was amazing, service was incredible, and the ambience was perfect. Will definitely return next time we’re in town. Highly recommend the cheese plate and mussels.
The food and the service was excellent
We had a group of 7 on a Saturday night. The food was fantastic from starter/salads through entrees. I had a trout special that had a crab butter sauce over it that was outstanding. We had a couple minor bumps with the server trainee that was waiting on us but nothing that would keep me from returning. Would definitely recommend.
My partner and I sat outside for an early dinner. While the standard menu had a lot of tempting options, I decided to go with the specials for the evening: a strawberry beet salad with goat cheese that was delicious (and big enough for the two of us to easily share), and a papardelle pasta with a light white truffle sauce and porcini mushrooms. It was a very generous portion, and I had plenty leftover to bring home to enjoy later. As for drinks, the wine list is excellent and the "Mediterranean Gin & Tonic" that I had to start was Instagram-worthy and very tasty. The service was excellent, if a bit on the slow side, but that was fine with us as we were happy to relax and enjoy a leisurely meal.
We loved the food and our wine. Our server was awesome! If I had one thing I’d change it would be having other options besides veal. The menu seemed very veal focused, so just a heads up for visitors.
Outstanding as always. Even short staffed, they hustle and do their absolute best to provide a great experience.
Some of the best Italian food I have ever had. The meatball appetizer and veal picatta were incredible.
