The Italian Barrel
Authentic food is an understatement - this is the real thing.
The hostess greeted us graciously. Samantha, chef owner, had absolutely fabulous food. Gino had exemplary service. All in all a great night!! Thank you Samantha and staff!
We had a great experience. The staff is awesome! Food is great. Its definitely a hidden gem in a city for foodies!
Terrible food. Inedible.
Awesome meal, awesome wine, as always! Many thanks to the chef who sent out complimentary bruschetta- it was fabulous, as well!
Great food and great service! Love this place!!
Was asked if we had reservations to an empty establishment as we thought it was closed. We were given an unprepared table but we asked if we could take the window away from the entrance? We were told it was reserved!? So we sat down during the preparation of the table provided. I went online and made reservations and asked, i was able to make a reservation, so how does it work if no question on choice of seating was asked? Wow, were we just profiled? The manager/owner apologized and wanted to move us to accommodate but we had already settled in and ordered our drinks and appetizer. We were then taken care of by five staff members. Was it because i asked if WE were profiled?
---Had I left, I would have approved this type of service to continue in America---
The two Sparkling wine and glass of wine drinks were compensated for the misunderstanding, really? I wanted to correct the waiter as the drinks were not on our bill but decided they tried to correct the problem...
This was an amazing place. The food was fabulous. I will go back and I recommend if you are in the area go.
We had a fantastic server! They made us feel welcome and special. The food was outstanding as usual!
The Italian Barrel is the perfect spot for a cute date night in New Orleans. My boyfriend and I were in town for the weekend and looking for a nicer spot to eat. The food was AMAZING! We had the mussels, chicken parm, and penne with vodka sauce and crab. A little pricier but well worth the money for an amazing meal. Restaurant itself is very cute and cozy! Service was also excellent! Would def recommend to anyone looking for Italian food in NOLA.
This is a true Italian Restaurant without the overlay of traditional New Orleans spices. The horderves were excellent and in large portions. The menu selection is large and varied including daily specials and the final bill was appropriate. The wait staff were adults, professional and interacted in a very pleasant and friendly manner. Probably the most unexpected but good experience was that it was quiet enough to hold a discussion particularly with the person sitting across from you.
Wonderful dining experience. Great service and delicious food. We are lucky to live close by.
Delicious and interesting food, top notch service, and the perfect ambiance!! Noisy, but you can still easily have a conversation at your own table. It’s perfect in my estimation. We’ll return on our next visit to NOLA.
We had a family celebration dinner on a Friday evening. The food was really good, as was the service. We definitely will be going back.
Amazing! Some of the best Italian food I have ever had- including restaurants in Italy itself!! The atmosphere and menu are both superb- major compliments to the chef!!!
We loved the Italian Barrel. We had a romantic dinner and the food was delicious. The service was impeccable. You have to try the tiramisu. Real Italian food. Perfection!
Always excellent from top to bottom. Food is extraordinary as is the service.
We had a lively evening. The restaurant is charming! This was an anniversary dinner and it was romantic and the service and food made a perfect evening. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I had an overall great experience! It was romantic, good vibes, Jason was an awesome waiter. The veal picatta was okay, not as great as I’d hoped. But my boyfriend’s lasagna was fantastic. Would come here again!
Perfect early dinner before theatre. Friendly staff, delicious food and great cocktails and wine. Chef Sam is dedicated to the quality her restaurant provides to its customers.
This place is AMAZING! My wife and I love it here. We love everything about it. Service and food are amazing! We definitely recommend this restaurant!
We were greeted with southern hospitality with hugs and welcoming atmosphere. The chef came to out table asking how the food was. With meatballs stuffed in our face, all 6 of responded with the same muffled "excellent." Very traditional Italian Restaurant with wine pouring endlessly while waiting on next course. If you love Italian like my Family does, you will not be disappointed. #reddressrun2019
Excellent food and service.
Reserved a table for our 27th anniversary. As locals, we wanted to try this restaurant. Seating was quick, but not the rest of the night. Bread took about 30 minutes to come to the table, then salad was about 20 minutes, entree another 40 minutes, but dessert was quick. The food was awful. Bresaola Salad was dry and tasteless (shaved beef, parmesan cheese and argula with half a lemon..not a great combo). The entree, which was the "special", was a veal chop stuffed with asparagus and prosciutto. NEVER ORDER THAT. Not properly seasoned on any level, the stuffing was bitter, the veal was not seared very well, nor cooked very well. It was dry and chewy. Guess given a huge steak knife should have been a warning! The hostess was very sweet and tried to make up for our dinner. They comped us 2 desserts - a creme brulee, which the sugar part on top was perfect, but the inside tasted more like whip cream and almond extract; and the millefoglie was FROZEN and was difficult to try to eat. Even when you got to the cream part of the dessert, it was frozen. TO SAY THE LEAST, IT RUINED OUR ANNIVERSARY DINNER, AND WE WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANY VISITOR OR FRIEND. It's embarrassing to have a restaurant in a city of restaurants that doesn't measure up to its Italian roots.
Jason is superb! Another server - Jaum (query spelling) is magnificent and a pure delight!
Excellent meal prepared and presented flawlessly. Make sure to make reservations as it is a small place.
We’ve been several times over the years and it’s consistently fantastic. Service, food and experience continue to impress.
Great food and service in a relaxing at home ambiance. Overall one of the best Italian meals I’ve had in a long time.
Close to home , friendly and good food
Birthday dinner for my wife. Every thing was perfect
Fantastic little Italian serving high quality traditional Italian food. The Cotoletta Milanese was amazing! Highly recommended and deserves a higher tripadvisor rating. Surperb wine list as well at reasonable prices.
Outstanding! Exceptional in all categories. Knowledgeable and attentive with staff with an understanding of customers wants. Food is beyond comparison. With the consigner at our hotel informed the staff that it was my wife’s birthday, they went above and be on to accommodate us and make us feel welcome. A true dining experience!
The closest you are going to get to Italy in New Orleans
Can’t say enough great things about this restaurant. Amazing experience
Absolutely love this place. A must do every time we are in New Orleans.
Having had dinner there on 2 other occasions, we decided to bring along 3 friends who had not dined at Italian Barrel.
To say that we were disappointed with the veal entrees is an understatement.
While the appetizers were fantastic, the veal was not.
Three of us ordered the veal porcini and not only was it lacking taste, the presentation was not at all appealing. To quote one of our friends at the table “ It looks a little beige.”
One other friend ordered an entree and minutes later the waitress informed her later that they were out of spinach for that dish. The waitress did not come back to take that person’s order until she realized that the other 4 people at the table had been served their entree.
Needless to say we were very disappointed on this visit.
Our appetizers were good and arrived timely. However, our meal was on and extensive today… Our waitress had to be broke down a couple times to ask about it, and had to frequently be reminded to refill water, or drinks.
Great place. Wonderful atmosphere and food!! This is one of our favorite places in New Orleans
It was really good but a little pricey for the quality and quantity.
Absolutely amazing from start to finish! Always have the most memorable meals here. The Chef Samantha makes everything from scratch daily- except for the Tiramisu which her mother makes every morning. The most exceptional meal and dining experience in New Orleans! Love this place!!
Service was extremely slow.
