The Italian Barrel
Authentic food is an understatement - this is the real thing.
Food was subpar compared to usual.
Everything lacked salt. The mushroom polenta barely had any mushrooms.
Carpaccio was amazing.
Pesto shrimp lacked flavor, but the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. Will go back, but was disappointed a bit as we were saving up for this experience for a while.
My husband and I dined at The Italian Barrel for our anniversary and we couldn't have picked a better restaurant. The service, staff, and attention to detail were impeccable. We received complimentary glasses of champagne to enjoy while looking at the menus. We order the mussels and bruschetta to start. Both appetizers were delicious and more than enough for two. The bruschetta was so fresh and tasty. The sauce the mussels were steamed in was light and delicious. Perfect for soaking the bread! We shared the salad that was the special for the evening and it was delicious with mixed greens, strawberries, candied pecans, and honey whipped ricotta! For entrees, my husband ordered bone-in veal, which he thoroughly enjoyed, and I got the penne ala vodka, which was probably my favorite dish of the night. The wine was delicious and the service made our wonderful dinner that much more enjoyable. We cannot wait to return! Thank you for a lovely night!
Old warm charm in a historic neighborhood was welcoming. Superb service with deliciously prepared dinners was a delight for our last evening in NOLA.
Very quaint restaurant. Enjoyed the experience!
Our first time at Italian Barrel but will not be our last. Small place, warm atmosphere, friendly staff, food very good. A bit pricey for Italian food, but well prepared.
Have never had anything but the best food and a friendly staff with a special atmosphere
Returned for a second time since the first experience was outstanding. The second time matched the first. We live in New Orleans and this is becoming one of our favorites.
Excellent meal and service
Always the best!
Our server was friendly, fun and very accommodating
Food was HORRIBLE....so sad. Used to be very good.
My food was cold and tasteless . They acknowledged and took my food off my bill but overall food was just okay . Many better Italian restaurants in New Orleans .
High point was the bruschetta appetizer.
Spectacular service! Wonderful cuisine.
Our party of 10 was taken care of as if we were royalty!
Being a Foodie I found the food basic at best. We had two different pasta dishes and the both dishes lack flavor. The best thing we had there was the meat and cheese plate. The chef really needs to taste the food before it leaves the kitchen. Sorry I dont recommend this restaurant.
Awesome service and food
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, would return & recommend
Great! As always
Great Restaurant for Romantic Dinner The Veal Piccata was the best I ever had. Too bad they ran out of Tiramisu everyone says it was wonderful. Would recommend this to any one.
We stayed in New Orleans at the Frenchman next to Italian Barrel. The experience was worth the cost and time. The waiter was there at the right times. The cost for the amazing food had the right proportions for how amazing it taste. Highly recommend.
Wonderful, as always!
We have gone to this restaurant several times in the past as we have a place in the quarter. We were with a group of 6 and we were seated inside the restaurant. We did a toast to a anniversary and the host came over and told us to keep it down. Keep in mind the restaurant was not quiet by any means. We had ordered our food so we were gonna stay but a few minutes later the chef/owner told us to keep it down. We were NOT being loud. We left without eating anything but a cheeseboard. We will never go to this restaurant again.
Perfection! The sauces and pasta are just like Italy.
We are on our honeymoon here and the staff went over and beyond to make it a special night!
Our server did an excellent job of maintaining a good flow for the evening. We never felt rushed or felt like we hadn’t seen him in a while either. He also made some good recommendations for the food and drinks. The food was incredible, we all got something different and everyone raves over there dish!
Everything was great! But the pasta is over the top!!
Food is delicious and it’s fun to go to the Quarter on a beautiful day.
Amazing food and fantastic service. Couldn't ask for better!
Server was great. Table setting/environment wasn’t the best. Got stuck in back corner where servers were going in and out about 1 foot from me. Food was okay. Very flavorful, but creamy white sauce and vodka sauce of 3 different dishes were on the thicker side. It got too thick and clumpy a few minutes after as we dug in.
Great Food and Service.
Had so much fun. Great drinks, great people, great food. Thanks again!
The Italian Barrel exceeded our expectations beyond measure! I am Italian so the bar is high. We are foodies and search out James Beard restaurants .
Last night we were completely WOWED by Chef Sam and The Italian Barrel, no trip to Nola will be complete without experiencing all the love that goes into every plate she serves!!!
It is a beautiful location , white table cloths , candles , beautiful windows and original brick walls. We arrived at 7:15 and there were only three other tables occupied. We decided to try The Italian Barrel on a recommendation from an Uber driver when we were in NOLA last year because we were disappointed and looking for the best Italian food.
The empty tables had me a little concerned, but before long the restaurant was filled and you could tell many were regulars.
Our server Ricky greeted us and we ordered cocktails.
The sazarac my husband ordered was perfection, I had the bellini martini which was yummy! Ricky helped us chose a beautiful bottle of Brunello which he decanted for us to let breathe. Ricky has an excellent sense of timing , he did not rush but was so attentive. Truly the art of an server who knows his craft. The menu is so well balanced and there were several things that looked delicious , I knew it was going to be a tough choice! Chef Sam came over to our table as she was making rounds and from that moment we truly may have been transported to Italy!!
We gave her full reign to chose each course for us and it was all LOVE ON A PLATE, FOOD ART PERFECTION!! Charcuterie board , meatball , pasta and veal parmesan. Every plate had so much attention to detail , thought and true mastery of the flavors and ingredients. Thank you to Chef Sam , our amazing server Ricky and the team at the Italian Barrel , you have created a very special dining experience! Truly the best Italian food in NOLA!!
Lovely quaint place with excellent service. Food was above average but offerings didn’t mirror menu from website. Would have liked to have been offered bread considering there were bread plates on the table.
Samantha is one of NOLAs finest chefs & people! The Italian Barrel is not to be missed!
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The mussels were incredible. The service wonderful, and the wine selection was spot on! The ONLY issue we had was with my husband’s main course. I’m not going to point out which one or the issues; it could have been an “off” night for this one dish and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt.
The wait staff was very receptive to the feedback and comp’d the cost of my husband’s meal. I have NEVER asked for anything to be comp’d and was a little embarrassed that this had to be discussed. However, the team was gracious and insisted. I would certainly return to Italian Barrel for another time.
Thank you for the ambiance, friendly staff, and excellent service.
Waiter Chris was attentive and knowledgeable. Veal meatball was a delicious appetizer. I had penne arrabbiata which tasted like it was made by my grandma who was borne in Italy. My wife had porcini and truffle ravioli which also was delicious and tasted like it was homemade.
The food was wonderful. The pasta and cheeses superb
Ate at the bar. Bartender very cordial and knowledgable. Food was fabulous. I kept it simple with caesar salad, clams and Spaghetti with veal meatball- all stellar. Portions were large, especially clams (probably 3 dozen total). Half bottle of Brunello topped it all off.
The hostess greeted us graciously. Samantha, chef owner, had absolutely fabulous food. Gino had exemplary service. All in all a great night!! Thank you Samantha and staff!
We had a great experience. The staff is awesome! Food is great. Its definitely a hidden gem in a city for foodies!
