The Island House Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We went as a group of 6 for a work Christmas luncheon. Very clean with a beautiful view of the water and docks. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was delicious with generous portions. We had a very nice lunch and would definitely go back!
Not up to previous standards.
The Bloody Mary was sour and the clams too tough to chew. Should not have had to ask for water and dessert, leaving us with the impression that we were being rushed. After this experience, we will think twice before making the hour drive to the island house restaurant.
Although we really wanted to sit outside on the deck, it was a bit windy, so we opted to stay inside and were seated at a nice corner table by the window. Service was quick---we did not have to wait long at all. The waitress was attentive and friendly; the food was good---my wife really enjoyed the rib-eye steak and my crab cake & fish was tasty. We enjoyed a couple of drinks---they have an adequate beer and wine selection. It was a very pleasant evening out in a nice casual environment with great views; we enjoyed it and will return!
The Island house is always reliable. The food and service is just right. Tonight our server Ava was attentive without being annoying. The restaurant is always what you expect but tonight it went above and beyond, the view of high tide over the tidal grasses and then as the darkness set in the moon light shimmering over the water just added to a great evening.
We were headed from North Carolina to Pennsylvania and needed a break from driving. We couldn't have picked a better spot. We had a very leisurely late lunch watching the boats go by. Food was delicious - I particularly liked the crab cakes and my husband had an Asian salad with shrimp that were delicious. We also tried the fried oysters which we loved. Our waiter couldn't have done a better job. It was a great experience and we will definitely return.
Our 2nd. trip there and NOT our last. Well worth the drive down from Delaware. We love the area and we love the food. Some of the best crab cakes I've ever had. The wife enjoyed her fish, the desserts were also great. We will make the trip down again very soon.
Waited for hostess to acknowledge us, assisting two large parties that had no reservations before us. I had stated on Open Table that it was for a birthday, this was never mentioned, in fact, we were never asked if we wanted any dessert. Waitress just brought the bill. I was very disappointed in that the birthday was never addressed.
Quaint out of the way restaurant with spectacular views of the waterway and barrier islands. As one would guess, known for its seafood. I enjoyed their broiled crab cake and fried oyster dinner. Crab cake not loaded with fillers mostly all meat and the oysters were not greasy fried just right . My wife had scallops. Very fresh and cooked to perfection. In all from the sweet potato muffins thru the salad and entrees it's what you would expect from a coastal sea food restaurant.
The seafood at Island House is fantastic - perfectly prepared and generous portions. Their sides are also fresh made and delicious and dessert...the Smith Island cake was incredible. You definitely get your money's worth at this restaurant and will not leave hungry. Service is attentive and friendly. The view out of the wall of windows over the water is gorgeous. This is my favorite restaurant anywhere and we always make the trip to eat there when we're on the Eastern Shore.
I would have given 5 stars but found it odd that a seafood restaurant was out of cod for the fish and chips AND out of salmon. The crab bisque and chocolate bread pudding were outstanding! (And I am a foodie). Everyone's food was excellent. Will go back next time we are in the area
Food was excellent except for not having a good variety of gluten free options. I have been in some restaurants (two that I can think of) that can prepare most items on their menus gluten free.
I thought the prices to be a bit steep but because of the location plus not a lot of restaurants in the area, they can afford to charge whatever they want.
Wife and I come to the Eastern Shore once a year for an organization's directors meeting, and tried the Island House last year on internet recommendation. We enjoyed our experience so much, that, this year, we came back two days ago. The restaurant had some specials at the bar for Cinco de Mayo, and we took advantage of some very good margaritas. For dinner, we had a table by the front window , looking out toward the ocean. Even on a rainy day, a great view. My wife had shrimp, scallops, and crabmeat with provolone on top, broiled. I had their signature crab cake, and a nice portion of flounder, both broiled. We were both very satisfied with our choices. The sweet potato biscuits and sides were very good. The only reason I gave a moderate on noise, a diner at the next table took a call and was very loud in his conversation. It was not the Island House's place to fix stupid:) It was a platonic meal!
My husband and I drove up to the Eastern Shore from Virginia Beach. It was definitely worth the drive!! The food was very good - I had the crab cakes and my husband had the blackened scallops. The server was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is located right on the water with a beautiful view. I would HIGHLY recommend visiting the Island House!
We had a great time! Cruised around the eastern shore for the day, culminating here for a late lunch. We ate outside on a the deck in 80 degree temps overlooking the water. Had the outside to ourselves due to some pretty aggressive no-see-ums, it that was our choice. We each had flounder, my wife had the platter and I had the sandwich. Both were excellent! Cole slaw, sweet potato fries and onion rings were all good to. Enjoyed meeting Trevor, the young man who waited on us. He braved the bugs too serving us and discussing local fish and fishing spots.
Enjoyed a wonderful Easter Sunday brunch. A window table was reserved for us and the server was very attentive. The drinks came right away but we did have a bit of a wait for our food. But the wait was well worth it! My wife's chicken and spinich omelet and my shrimp and grits were delicious. Even though The Island House is an hour's drive from our home on Chincoteague Island, it is always worth the trip. The 80 degree weather cooperated, too, on this beautiful holiday.
Thank you so much!
My wife and I had an awesome, top down drive up from Va Beach, great food and service, and the view over the barrier islands toward the ocean. Would highly recommend this for a hospitable Eastern Shore experience. Lovely town of Wachapreague and the people at the restaurant were great. Thanks to Trevor and the bartender (we normally get names but talking to her about the community and stuff was a hoot).
Thanks to Open Table as well for the email that reminded me how much I wanted to try Island House.
My wife and I wanted to do something special for Easter and decided on Wachapreague because of the restaurant. We had a fantastic meal Saturday night, stayed at the Wachapreague Inn and attended sunrise service Sunday morning. It was a very memorable weekend and we have decided to make this an annual trip for Easter.
We tried the lobster but should have done local seafood because the lobster was dry. The baked potato had been done for hours apparently. The beans were delicious but cold. The crab that topped the lobster was excellent. We waited thirty minutes for dinner, so we were happy to have ordered appetizers. Our waitress was excellent. We love to come to the Island House and won't let this experience spoil that. We will make certain we order local seafood. Upgrades to the front are beautiful! The hostess was on-top of logistics and treated us with thoughtfulness. We love the place!
