The Courier Post recently honored the Inn with three & a half stars boasting, “Owner/chef Larry Boylan has put a kitchen full of thought into his waterside Inn at Sugar Hill.” That “thought” process has been ongoing for Boylan & his Inn for 22 years now, with no signs of letting up. “ I believe a good dining experience has the ability to not only nourish the body, but also nourish a persons’ soul… to be able to reach out & touch someone on that level is a high that gives me a lot of satisfaction & motivates me”, states Boylan. As an authentic Country Inn, the Inn at Sugar Hill has always strives to provide old world hospitality to both its’ dining & bed & breakfast guests. This philosophy has led to creating menus that reflect not only current culinary trends, but also respect the palates of those less adventurous. “Before I print a new menu I always look it over & say… what are my parents going to order & then… what are my teenage daughters going to like!

We had an 8pm reservation. When we arrived, we were told that the kitchen was about to close (admittedly 10 minutes late). Still we felt rushed and unwelcomed from the start).

My entree, a chicken dish with tomatoes, artichokes and zucchini, was terrible. The presentation was unappetizing, the chicken was dry and the sauce lacked seasoning. The server was perfunctory and unfriendly.

We have returned as the food used to be better and the setting is so scenic but we will not be back.

Terrible experience! Terrible service! Food just fair ( that's the Caesar salad). No entrees after almost 2 hours so we paid for our drinks, 1 soup and the salads and we left. So disappointed!

We went with 6 people for a Fathers' day dinner, which owing to almost-unbelievably poor service ended up being a frustrating experience. I've dined out at least weekly in Philly or southern NJ for the past ten years, and the experience here was so bad that it's pushed me to write my first (I think!) restaurant review ever.

We were seated in an attractive but almost empty room, although the outdoor seating seemed busier. We were greeted nicely and our orders taken, and then we waited. And we waited, and we waited, and we waited... with almost no attention whatsoever from our waitress for long stretches of time. About an hour and fifteen minutes after ordering, she did stop by to say that it would likely be another "3 minutes", that there was some problem with a "printer" in the kitchen apparently rendering the whole thing dysfunctional. Well, the extra 3 minutes turned into 20-25 minutes... until we genuinely wondered whether we'd been forgotten and I had to approach the staff to inquire.

For having waited about (and I'm pretty sure over) an hour and a half for our food, there was strikingly little offered in the form of apologies, more bread, offers to refill our drinks, etc... the superficial apologies having come only after we were visibly exhausted by the wait. The apology itself came with an assurance that we shouldn't feel bad, because we're "not the only ones" who had to wait on the food.

Again, we waited for what seemed a very long time just for our plates to be cleared, and I asked for the check immediately (we dared not consider dessert). Just our party in a silent vacant room... until we finally made it out of the place by a bit before 930pm (having been seated right at 630). To top it all off, the food was, in my opinion, quite mediocre despite the incredible wait.

First time here. Everyone from when we first walk in was friendly. Sat us on the porch overlooking the river. Waitress and staff were pleasant and always seeing if we needed anything. At end of our meal our waitress suggested we go down to the dockside bar and listen to live music which we did. Great way to celebrate our 33rd anniversary!

We dined on a Saturday night and were seated in the area adjacent to the bar. This afforded us a very nice view of the waterway. The bar area is small, so the noise level was not a problem. The bar has no blender, so no frozen drinks. Our server was wonderful. He was quite personable, had a good sense of humor (wit) and provided excellent service. There were no specials that night, so we ordered from the regular menu. Our entrees were good, but the desserts are to write home about. Coffee served from a carafe, so it could have been hotter. We will be back, and I suggest others should check it out too. They also have casual, outside, waterfront bar & dining with burgers and such. BTW, did I say our waiter was great?

I was very disappointed. I had high hopes as I have been here before and it was very good. Not this time. When we went in there was nobody there even though it was prime dinner time. We should have known better. The wait staff was inattentive and made us wait even though nobody was there. She walked by several times before she came by. We ordered some appetizers and the spinach artichoke dip was good. I ordered a cup of crab bisque soup. The soup was not good and had way too much salt in it. I then got the crab cakes for $24 and they were very bland. The mashed potatoes were very bland. The coleslaw was mediocre. My wife had stuffed shrimp for $28. The shrimp were terrible and the stuffing tasted rancid. She ordered red potatoes and they looked like pickles and were not good. We told the waitress and she did not offer to remove the meal from the bill or anything. I should have refused to pay for it but I didn’t want to make a scene. My daughter ordered a kids chicken parm dinner for $16. The chicken parm was good and my poor wife ate the rest of my daughters leftovers so that she wasn’t starving. The prices were high and for these prices we expect good food and/or at least decent food with big portions. Again this was not the case. I will not go back to eat inside. The outside patio was packed. Perhaps the food and/or drinks are good at the patio but I am hesitant to try it. Overall from 1 to 10 I give it a 2. The spinach artichoke dip and my daughters chicken parm were the only things that was good, however everything was way overpriced.

We went for Restaurant Week. The Inn was by far the best place we have been for this occassion. The food, ambiance and cuisine was definitely top notch. We will be going back for regular dinning.

Food is amazing. Lamb chops, lobster ravioli, and crab bisque were equally excellent. Crab cakes were good, but could not compare to the scallops, which were amazing. Skip the dessert - didn't match the quality of the rest of the food.

Enjoyed the birthday dinner for my husband; his favorite restaurant. The wait staff and manager were great. Always enjoy sitting near a fireplace. The food was delicious. My salmon was a little undercooked for my taste, but there was no problem in getting it a little more cooked. When making the dinner reservation, I did request a piece of cake with a candle for my husband's birthday, which we didn't get, so that was the only thing that was a little disappointing, but no big deal.

The dinner was overall very good with one exception, one of my guests ordered a hamburger medium well done, the burger was very burned as well as the bun which was actually charred black and this should not have even been presented to my guest the way it was. The server should have refused to present it and demand another burger on behalf of my guest. My guest didn't want to cause a commotion and disrupt the dinner so he ate what small portion he could without saying anything. Everything else was very nice and i would recommend your restaurant anytime.

Had dinner there with friends on Friday night. Neal the host who greeted us at door called us by name and walked us right to a table by the fireplace.
Helen our waitress was great! Both of them checked on us several times through the meal to make sure we were all ok.
Had the tuna special, crab cakes, stuffed shrimp and scallops. All four (4) meals were awesome and well portioned, no complaints.
Wife and I eat here a couple times a season when outdoor deck is open. Had been a few years since we ate inside, it won’t be a that long til we are back again!
