Amazing! We were there 20 years ago to the day and it has aged well like fine wine. We loved the tasting menu and all of the lovely bites in between. The customized menu with our names and the marzipan scroll with anniversary wishes were personal touches that makes this place so special. We will be back, but not wait for 20 years next time.
AMAZING. Now just typing so I can submit and be done with this review.
From start to finish the best dining experience we've ever had. The food was incredible, the wine was amazing, and the service was top notch. I would highly recommend reserving a kitchen table.
Amazing everything! Total emersion into heavenly fun!
Perfect. If you ever wondered what a perfect meal tastes like. Wonder no longer
The Inn is the Inn. If you are booking here you know what you are in store for. Excellent!
One of our most memorable dining experiences! The food was delicious. The service was impeccable starting from the second we drove up to the inn. Even when you leave, your car is ready and waiting for you without you having to say a word! Every waiter is professional and friendly. The good was beautifully presented and every bite was one to be savored. Highly recommend this place for special occasions.
Awesome! Best restaurant in DC area
Excellent service and food!
Once again, the Inn was perfect. We asked each other in the middle of the meal if we have ever had a complaint about the Inn or any of its dishes, after more than 10 visits and 50 dishes. And the response was No. Tonight, from the “Tin of Sin” through the “Peking Duck,” every dish was truly memorable. The wine pairings were perfect. And the service was impeccable.
No words can properly edify the exquisite experience offered at the Inn's Chef's table. We absolutely loved our time there. Plan to spend some money, but it will be well worth it!
Amazing! Everything was delicious.
Put simply, this is an experience of a lifetime. We felt incredibly welcome, the food was excellent, and the ambience was perfect.
Our second visit, and it did not disappoint. Fantastic service, incredible food, and a memorable experience.
This is consistently one of the best restaurants in the world -- no exaggeration. If there's a special event happening in your life, go there. An added plus: no matter who you are and where you're from, you will feel welcome.
It was a “Special occasion “ just being at this remarkable place. We stayed overnight at the inn and ate at the restaurant. What Patrick O’Connell has created is extraordinary- a haven in a historic Revolutionary War village of 150 people. Beautifully transformed buildings, exquisitely decorated rooms, and a dining experience that ranks with the Per Se’s, Eleven Madison Park’s, Daniel’s and French Laundry’s reputations. Innovative dishes beautifully prepared and served by a wonderful staff of dedicated professionals. Yes, it is expensive, but the experience is well worth the cost. Don’t forget about afternoon tea and breakfast, and make sure you are served the popcorn with truffles at dinner. Fabulous experiences ll around.
Fantastic everything from staff to cuisine! What a treat!
It is good. But it is not really worth.
We celebrated a special occasion here. It was a romantic evening filled with delicious food and excellent service. It's both traditional and creative, an impressive combo!
Highlights: My lamb carpaccio (seared but cold) with Cesar salad ice cream was one of the best things I have ever eaten. My boyfriend liked his foie gras best, and we both thought his rabbit was absolutely perfect. I also had very good tuna and halibut dishes, and his mushroom carpaccio was really spectacular.
Room for improvement: These are very minor complaints, but when the food is this close to perfect (and your bill is $600 plus tip), it's fair to mention these missteps. I took a point off the food, which really should have been a half point, for two reasons: 1) We were both a little disappointed with the duck. The skin was kind of flabby, and the roulette needed a little more cook on the outside. 2) The coffee at the end of the meal was not good. While you obviously don't go here for the coffee, to finish such an exceptional meal with bitter (tasted like percolator) coffee, is kind of a disappointment. This is easy to rectify with some Counter Culture coffee and a French press.
Sommelier: I have to give huge props to the sommelier. The wine pairing is expensive, and we're more white people than red, so we usually get a bottle, as we did this trip. The sommelier listened carefully to what we like and recommended a reasonably priced ($100) wine that wasn't on the menu and that we would have never thought to try. It was perfect, as was the after-dinner port (which you can get instead of dessert).
Other: The service is great. They pace the meal out nicely, though I actually could have used a bit more time between our last couple of courses. When comparing this to some of the other exceptional DC restaurants, it's noticeable the Pineapple and Pearls is $250 per person, inclusive of drinks, tax, and gratuity. This is a different experience, though, with a long tradition, and well worth it.
Sometimes last minute ideas are the best adventures! Going to Luray Caverns I ended up speaking with the lovely gift shop woman. She directed me to try out Wisteria Winery tasting. While at the wine tasting I met a Sommelier Mike who lived in NJ and who's father worked in Parsippany! (My home town) This of course led to a fantastic conversation. We both agreed how nothing in MD, DC or VA tastes like home. He had worked in the best restaurants in NY. (For those from NY, ya know them so his recommendations are legit) After a while he recommended I try this famous 2 star Michelin restaurant called The Inn at Little Washington, VA. So I made reservations through open table and strangely it required my credit card. (I was like um ok) and booked it! Turns out it was a $218 per person (Before tax/tip) amuse-bouche. BEST ADVENTURE IN DINNING EVER!!!!! Was able to get a table when usually takes months to reserve, A stranger saw me eating alone and bought me my wine (Server Mark said he has NEVER seen that happen)!! The staff treated me like royalty and I can't even describe what hit my palette in the 7 courses of extraordinaire!!! It was like a dance. In the end I was offered a tour of the kitchen and had the great honor of meeting Chef Patrick O'Connell. Now I know most would think spending that kind of money on a dinner is certifiable, but I will carry the night in my memory with the thought of not one ounce of regret! Also taking Mother back there for Easter Dinner. At 76 years old she deserves the moon and stars and I'm going to show it to her... (SEE PHOTOS)
Exceptional food and service
Eating here is an event. It’s true perfection. Their attention to detail is on a scale all its own. The Inn should be on everyone’s list of things to do.
Staff very stiff. Made the evening awkward and rushed. Not fun.
What an amazing experience! The Inn was all I hoped for and more! Chef O’Connell was very friendly and the staff was one of a kind! You won’t regret it!!
My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary here. I had been wanting to dine at The Inn at Little Washington after hearing rave reviews from friends, but of course, it is extremely pricey so we waited until our milestone anniversary to actually take the plunge. It was incredible, like none other. The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous, and the food, service and ambiance was impeccable. Each plate was like a work of art, and the service was literally perfect. I highly recommend the wine pairing (if you are a wine drinker). A staff member explains each glass. Because it was our anniversary we had a special menu, dessert, and tour of the kitchen and met the famous chef O'Donnell, who was warm and charming as well.
Highly recommend :-)
You gotta check it out for sure. Words cannot describe. Great experience of true VA inn dining experience. Amazing food and service. Won’t be disappointed if you enjoy amazing food and great experience. Worth the money.
An incredible experience in all aspects. Attention to every detail. Absolutely worth it.
I cannot say any better what hundreds have said about the Inn experience. We keep returning because it is singular and cannot be duplicated. Thank you again and again.
New Years eve
We've been to the Inn many times but its been about 8 yrs since our last visit. We went to dinner there on New Year's Eve and in some respects it was disappointing. Most of the food was excellent as usual. The Plateau de Fruits de Mer was very disappointing. I dont come to a restaurant like this to be served raw seafood- doesnt take a talented chef to prepared raw oysters, clams etc. The shrimp were small and unremarkable- they almost tasted frozen, appears they sat on ice way too long. Crab claws were stringy. Just a big let down.
Steak at the end was good but I also dont come here for a steak. More than enough steak houses in the DC area and frankly much closer. And since the menu was set, no choice of ordering something else.
There were some missteps on service as well. No menus at our table, we had to ask for them and that took awhile as well. Wife asked for a straw for her mixed drinks and was brought a straw you would expect for a fountain drink from 7-Eleven.
For $1100 for a couple (just a half bottle of wine and a few drinks), I'm expecting over the top food and service. We didnt get that and couldnt help feeling gouged on the price.
We did appreciate the valet service that wasnt provided last time we were there. Thats a big improvement.
We were welcomed nicely and congratulated on our first year anniversary. The food was phenomenal. I tried things I’d never think of eating, and for the most part, it was fantastic! The service was attentive but not intrusive and the theme and entertainment by staff was fun. The price per person was eye-opening, but we were adequately prepared. Overall, it was a great experience, one to have every 5 or 10 yrs!
Spectacular. Perfect. Magical.
For a belated anniversary, we enjoyed 2 nights at the Inn. The food was amazing, the service was perfection, and we will go back.
Excellence really does not do justice to our dining experience - the Inn at Little Washington is a national treasure in every respect!
Sommelier was especially helpful. Entire staff very accommodating. the sticker shock is enormous, and it is surprising that they haven't moved to a "no gratuity" policy.
But it never disappoints.
Amazing food, service, ambiance. My only "ding" (and thus not 5 starts...would say 4.75) is that we did not get our cocktails until we were on our first course (and already had our bottle of wine that we ordered after the cocktails sitting in front of us). Of course it is an expensive evening but the experience was well worth it.
I took my family to the Inn for Christmas Eve. It was the first time that my two boys had been. A great experience for all of us. As usual the staff and service was impeccable. Food of course is the best. A great Christmas tradition.
Chef Patrick O’Connell once again has done an amazing job! The service was spot on. The food was phenomenal and the ambiance never disappoints.
Could not ask for a more special dinner! Staff is extremely attentive; food is extraordinary; entire experience is out of this world!
