My Indian-food-loving son was in town and we dined here. I really enjoyed everything about this dining experience. The chicken tikka was a little overcooked, however, everything else was perfect. Service was good and great ambiance. Will definitely return.
This is the best Indian buffet I have every had. The choices are amazing and the atmosphere is relaxing.
The restaurant was apparently closed for a private party and no one had bothered to inform me even after I confirmed my reservation with them the day before. They didn't call to inform me on the day of either. I showed up there and that's when I was told. I've been a customer with them for 6 years, but after this extremely unprofessional behavior I will not be returning again!
Being an Indian, I went to this restaurant for having some delicious Indian food. However, to my surprise, they served the stale food with lots of spice. I could not eat the food and regret for my decision to goto this restaurant.
Delicious! Aloo Gobi was spicier than expected but still fantastic!
We love India Garden. The buffet is delicious, the dishes high quality, the ambiance lovely and the staff very welcoming. The buffet is a great value. For example the paneer dishes are always choc full of cheese. I usually eat vegetarian but do love the shrimp and fish dishes. My meat eating friends rave about the chicken and the lamb. The buffet selections vary all the time so you can always find something new. If you have friends who have never tried Indian food do bring them here. The regular menu is also wonderful and a good chance to try some harder to find dishes. Do note the restaurant is on the 2nd floor and a high rise is being erected immediately west of the restaurant which obscures the sign. The restaurant is also conversation and child friendly. Enjoy!
Apart from the Bald manager who was a little rude, the food was delecious, the dessert - Cham Cham was just sugary and very hard not like the actual Indian made, bread Naan were served a little late but loved the food, best in this neighborhood...
Took my wife here for Valentines Day for a romantic dinner and as always we enjoyed our evening, the food and the service.
The Indian Garden is good for Indian food, but surprisingly risky for vegans. I write this review to inform vegans of the chance that they might not get a vegan meal even if the option selected is designated as "vegan" in the menu. A vegan in our party ordered the Veg Jalfreizi which was labeled "vegan" in the menu. When it arrived it included Paneer which is Indian cheese. The menu description of the dish did not include cheese in the description. When we raised the issue of cheese in a vegan dish making Indian Garden's Veg Jalfreizi definitively not a vegan dish the response was very surprising. The waitress left the table and went to the kitchen. She returned and informed us that after speaking to the chef the solution was that "the next time you order Veg Jalfreizi just request 'no cheese'." The Indian Garden chef expects vegans to somehow know which dishes are promised as vegan, but that require special instructions to actually get in a vegan form. I think Indian Garden can and should do better, and the chef needs a reminder on the ways to serve vegan customers with respect for their needs.
The food was tasty and tender. The servers were very polite and took good care of us.
The food was not being refilled in serving trays and couple of trays were empty e.g. Samosas, rice etc.
The used plates on the table were not cleared when we went for getting additional servings from the buffet table. We had to ask for the plates to be cleared.
Amazing dining experience. The food was fresh and authentic. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive.
I managed to visit this restaurant twice in the three days I was in Chicago. The first was on Christmas night, and they happened to be open. The food took a bit longer because they were so busy, but definitely worth the wait. On the second visit, I made a reservation and the servers all gave input as to what was their favorite dish, and what they thought the milder taste buds could not handle. We were a large party seated at the back of the restaurant, and the host came back several times to make sure the entire party was happy.
Was not a great experience, was looking forward for a good experience, turned out to be totally opposite, most of the things we ordered were not available, mentioned ran out, service was extremely poor.
Not worth for a visit.
Slightly erratic greeting on arrival and service as the restaurant diners seemed to be competing with a high volume of takeaway/delivery business. The cooking was of a high standard but be warned that portions are quite large. We noticed that there was ice on the inside of one of the windows in the area where we were seated.
When I reserve a table, I always request a window seat but the request is NEVER written down. What’s the point?
Food was great, service was slow. For the price, I’ll order here again, maybe takeout next time
we ordered from the menu instead of having lunch buffet which seems like they were ill equipped to manage.
food was cold. had ordered naan and reminded the server twice and finally was told that kitchen was closed. wait staff are not pleasant or attentive and maybe only trained to manage lunch buffet diners. Food would taste better if it was actually warm. Lack of attention and borderline the look of annoyance on wait
staff made the experience more unpleasant.
I've been here several times before. This tine, however, the food was way too spicy- everything!!! It was strange that out of the blue several servers came over and asked us if the food was too hot even though we never complained about it!
At the end of the meal, we waited 30 minutes to get our check. Then they also forgot to bring us our leftover food. Somewhat disappointed.
My favorite Indian restaurant in the Streeterville area. Very authentic food. Great flavors and spices. Come to share dishes.
Food was great, had the Chicken madras, basmati rice and garlic naan. Had to ask about their chicken dishes though, looked like a page of the menu was missing. But like I said the food was great!
Excellent recommendations from the waiter (just do what they say!)
This is the second time we have had team lunches at Indian Garden.
Would highly recommend for their buffet-style lunch. Staff is very attentive and the ambiance is fantastic.
We used to go there for the buffet, which is nice. Evening menu is too expensive. Food quality was good not great. The decor is great but the tables are too small. Nowhere to put any bag or small item.
Best Indian restaurant in Chicago. Great a la carte menu and excellent value lunchtime buffet. Love it!!
Delicious food and great place. We ordered different dishes and they were all excellent.
The food is too salty but the garlic nann is great
I usually trust if a restaurant has many positive reviews and take the negative reviews as... “they must have had a bad day”. Well, I was there on a bad day. Server did not know menu and the Tandoor oven was not working so this limited our menu choices considerably.
I went for a milestone birthday, and I'd been waiting for weeks to go to Indian Garden. The last time I went, I really enjoyed it. This time, however... I was, immediately, insulted and disappointed: despite the fact that the restaurant was 60% empty, and I was a party of one, I was seated at literally the rearmost table. Even my waiter was annoyed with the host for the inexplicable distance he had to walk to ask me if I wanted the lunch buffet; I could tell by the look of frustration and confusion on his face as he trekked past empty table after empty table. I guess the host thought I would enjoy the view from that window -- construction to the northeast and a parking garage to the southeast. The food has certainly gone down since my last visit. It was oniony, garlicky, over salted -- it had no fragrance or complexity. The pakora were over-breaded and the tandoori chicken was overly dry. There were two dessert options; neither was fantastic. The best dish was the vegetable lentil soup. It is a pricey buffet, and it was not worth the money. I should have gone to Rajun Cajun.
This is my favorite OpenTable restaurant, I visit them more times a year than any other restaurant, when I'm on OpenTable looking for a restaurant and I can't decide on where to go....I always book at the Indian Garden and they're pretty consistent even when the service is not there, which isn't often.
Ask fist how spicy is the food, mine was super spicy
The service was very rapid. We received the appetizer and almost immediatly after the main course.
Great food!
Food was outstanding, service attentive, nice decoration
Above average Indian food. Well spiced. I went with my kids (older 30+). My daughter is a vegetarian and she was, of course happy with the selection. My son is a picky eater, but he actually enjoyed the dishes he had. The restaurant is located on the second floor. The window seats offer a nice street view. Service was ok. We shared all the dishes and we were all satisfied with the quantity and the quality. Good, authentic Indian food in a nice location.
Fantastic dining as always. Great food and service
Food was very good. W had a great table with a nice view. The only problem we had was that we only saw the waiter once the whole time we were there. They kept our water glasses filled, but NOBODY came to offer more drinks or even ask how the food was. There are more Indian Restaurants in Chicago to visit before I come back to this one.
The location is excellent. This is just a couple of blocks from the magnificent mile. He was easy to find on Google maps. The restaurant is located in the second floor so one has to go up stairs to get into the restaurant. I ordered a lamb curry with basmati rice. It was excellent food. The meat was tender and the spice level was perfect. The price was cheaper than a fancy restaurant but at the end of the meal I thought that I ate a more quality food than what I would be find in a more expensive restaurant. It was a healthy option and it was worth every penny. The servers were courteous and service minded
Excellent and authentic Indian food. Very good service.
We ordered chicken makhani, lamb rojan josh, and eggplant marigold. All were very flavorful and meat was particularly tender. Server was very friendly and helpful. For a Monday evening, arriving at 8:00, the restaurant was particularly busy. Would definitely recommend.
