This is my 3rd or4th time. I have to say that, for the first time, my expectations were not met. Food was not as good as usual. I had the liver and the mousaka.
Wow!! Always the best!!
So charming and excellent real French cuisine. Authentic colonial architecture. Pleasingly un-hipster. A special place. One of a kind.
Charming Beacon Hill spot
The server has attitude, quite rude in serving us, impatient and there was a quarrel in the kitchen. The food is so-so, ambiance is good, but wouldnt really recommend if you want a good experience due to the service.
Last minute dinner plans. Very nice location, Had to go down a few stairs to get into the seller. I had the special Chilean Seabass, very well-prepared, melts in your mouth. Ambiance was very romantic with nice Italian music playing. However, interior looks a little tired and can use a bit of the renovation. ServiceWas excellent. Wine list needs an update as the restaurant did not have a half bottle of wine I initially requested. Overall, enjoyed the experience. Will come back.
As always, an amazing experience start to finish. The cozy atmosphere paired with impeccably prepared dishes creates an unbelievable restaurant. I hate to tell people about this somewhat secret spot because I want to keep it for myself!
We first went here in the early 1980s and have been returning on special occasions from time to time ever since. It retains its unique romantic ambiance (which is not easy to find these days) and never disappoints. We'll certainly continue to return.
I wish the food and service would be perfect given the price is so high. But it is so disappointing that the quality of food is not what we expected, and the service is bad. The waiter do not bring us water, and he forgets to give us new fork and spoon when he takes them away.
Anyway, the environment is great, but overall this place is overpriced too much.
A charming and romantic restaurant. The owners attention makes the evening!
I have always loved the atmosphere at Hungry I, it is cozy, friendly, high quality, friendly and personal - as well as "Old Boston" in ambience. It has not changed in these qualities over the years. The current proprietor is warm and friendly and enhances the atmosphere.
Wonderful food and ambiance. The chef, Peter, was so engaging and cooked us a fabulous meal.
The food was so rich in taste and worth the longer than average wait for the dishes to arrive and the dumplings were so delicious. Enough where I did not have too many of them and I could be satisfied with the taste and not over eat and not leave any room for the main course.
On a Wednesday night at 6:30, we were the only reservation. We left at 8:30 - no one had entered or exited since then. The service was slow (we were the only people there), the food was bland and nothing special, and the meal was super overpriced. Bleh!
I hate leaving bad reviews, really I do. We’re human and i believe people try and do their best.
HAVING SAID THAT, we had no appetizers, one entree each and shared a dessert. Along with a 1/2 bottle of wine ($28).
The bill was $130. ‘Nuff said.
Also, they never - NOT ONCE - brought us WATER.
The ONLY THING I ENJOYED was the bread which was warm and fresh.
I wish I had better things to say, but for the price, the quality, and the experience ... NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE IN YHE RESTAURANT FOR TWO HOURS ON A WEDNESDAY EVENING.
Fantastic service and great ambiance. Food is superb. Always almost empty when I’ve visited, as this is a hidden gem in Boston.
We expected the food to be superior given the price which was prefix for three courses. Unfortunately it was not in line with the price.
We have visited this restaurant many times over the year, and it has never disappointed.
Ambiance is fabulous, such a pretty setting. Try to sit near the fireplace! Staff are so gracious, service is excellent.
Very good experience. It was our anniversary dinner and we had a fabulous time at this place.
We had such a great time at this cozy and romantic
Neighborhood staple. I had the mussels for an entree and the salmon with veggies for dinner. The walnut pie for dessert. The fireplace combined with the adorable decor made for a perfect romantic night. All the food was excellent. The pumpkin bread was excellent. The salmon was moist and the suave divine. Dessert as others on reviews said was delicious. Go if you want a special romantic spot away from large crowds. It’s a special lil spot!
Dropped in for a meal after shopping all day. The fireplace was going, which added to the already beautiful ambience. The server was attentive but not overly so. Selections were many and the specials were interesting. We ordered from the menu for our appetizers. I had a delicious pate and my husband had a wonderful clam dish. We decided to go with the duck breast entree which was one of that night's specials. Great pick on our part. Just fantastic. It was a wonderful evening. We look forward to our next visit.
I cannot say enough good things about this place! Romantic, delicious, and warm. I can't wait to return!
Food was OK but not as great as advertised. The server was nice but nothing above normal. The decor was weird and old. Not my style perhaps.
Fantastic meal and service, as always. Wonderful ambiance. A perfect fall evening! One of the best restaurants in Boston and one of our all-time favorites. Whether visiting for a light bite, a drink, or a meal, you won’t be disappointed.
Surprisingly quiet at 11:30 for brunch given the prime location , lovely setting, and delicious food. While dinner can be expensive, brunch entrees are creative, substantial, and moderately priced ($12-15.) We loved the attractive, interior, open-air, brick-walled patio on a warm fall day but would happily return for brunch in this charming restaurant for indoor seating in cooler weather. Two of us celebrated my birthday with a breakfast crepe and an order of fresh berry french toast, followed by the signature walnut pie and a cup of flavorful, dark roast coffee.
Charming delicious fun quiet good service. The suggested wine was good.
Special place - excellent food - very authentic
Another outstanding meal at this cozy and beautiful restaurant. The selections were varied and the items we had were delicious. Service was attentive and the pacing of the meal was spot on. A great experience.
A great meal and a wonderful restaurant. The food, service and ambiance were all perfect.
We just loved our dinner! We celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. Jose was an amazing waiter and made our experience even better. We will definitely come again!
Had a recommended dish...Chicken & Scallops...very disappointing. Friday night it was empty.
Maybe it's more of a lunch/brunch spot. Charming old buildinq and location.
This is one of the best restaurants in Boston. The chef-owner has been creating fabulous food for over 30 years in Beacon Hill. Cozy indoor seating, great food and service, and a charming outdoor patio. Not to be missed!
Although the food was pretty good, I must say we were disappointed after hearing for years how great it was. The outdoor patio is lovely and it's a romantic place. But the food was mixed. The venison was delicious but pricy. The frogs legs appetizer was just ok.
First of all, let me say what a great spot and romantic place. However, the food was not that good and covering it in butter does not cut it for me. Very expensive. The restaurant was filthy. Dust everywhere. Sad since it is so pretty. Cake of dust and grim everywhere.
I really love this place. It's a lovely charming restaurant with friendly helpful staff. The food is always terrific - my venison this week was tender and delicious. The wine selection is very good. In good weather, you can dine in a lovely outdoor courtyard.
Food was just OK for the price. $42 for a sirloin is absurd, a filet at comparable places is less expensive. Asked for Medium Rare was served Medium Well. Gristle and fat throughout the cut of meat. Got the fried polenta app it was bland, but Gorgonzola cream sauce was good. Would have been nice to know the AC would not be on or working at the time as this was my wife's Bday Dinner. She got the lamb which was just OK but was never asked what temp and came out more well done than desired. The nice thing was we were the only ones in the restaurant but sadly after our meal we realized why that was the case. Spend your $150 somewhere else...
As always, exceptional. A special, intimate, quirky (in the best way!) restaurant with professional personalized service.
Christopher's the best!
Fantastic service and good, would return over and over again!
Christopher is amazing as alwsys! Cozy, romantic spot for authentic French cuisine. Perfect for outdoor dining!
