The Hungry Cat - Hollywood Ratings and Reviews
Food was good but not enough busboys to clear the table. I ordered seafood platter with 2 tiers I.e. seafood with a lot of shells, oysters, mussels, lobsters, crab legs, sea urchin,.... food was good. When main dishes came, nobody came to clear the dirty table. After I requested for service, I still had to wait for another 10 minutes, leaving my main dishes cold. Waiter just gave lip service apologies and avoided eye contact while I waited.
Food was pretty good. We ordered mainly raw dishes and soup as we only had an hour to dine before a theater show.
Service was a bit slow and rude, perhaps maybe because it was Saturday night.
Had to wait for shell cracker for our lobster claw and spoon for the soup.
Proper utensils were not brought with the meal which made us rush even more.
Again, perhaps it was because it was Saturday night that service was not up to par, but you'd think youd have your best people working that night???
Everything else was fine, food was great!
I will still come back because of the food.
We LOVE this restaurant! We have been eating here for at least the last 13 years and the quality of food has consistently been outstanding with a small, but innovative seafood m. The seasonal cocktails are always a treat as well. It truly is a neighborhood gem (in the middle of Hollywood).
Terrible service. Only 4 tables in use in the entire restaurant and we waited almost an hour for our food. When I made the reservation I told them we had Theatre tickets and needed leave by a certain time. Needless to say we almost missed entry to the show.
Hungry cat was a little expensive for the limited menu that they offer. Food was very bland . Menu in line doesn’t match there in store restaurant menu
They have a very limited bar and we’re out of two of the tea that they serve in the restaurant.
Undirtunately, we will not go back.
Overall, it was ok. Half of our meal was great, the other half was mediocre. Our waiter never told us any specials, luckily, I knew there were dollar oysters before arriving because he never mentioned anything. The oysters and mussels were amazing. I was very pleased. My husband ordered the jumbo shrimp. He said the food was too salty. I ordered the clam chowder and I only had one clam. Additionally, the bacon flavor was so strong that it tasted like I was eating a bowl of bacon (great if you like bacon, but I wanted clam chowder). Overall, I would recommend for the raw food bar.
We had reservations at 615. The bar looked inviting so we chose to eat there. Gabriella was amazing with her on point service. The oysters were delish and when they were out of a dish we ordered they were quick with a substitute suggestion. Gabriella spaced our orders perfectly and the food was fabulous including but not limited to: braised mussels. Stuffed squid. Salad of little gem and crab puppies. The manager was fabulous and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. Money well spent.
Has lost its luster and soul. This used to be a great go-to spot, but it seems like everyone involved has given up. I wouldn’t be surprised if it closes soon.
I love any thing grilled but the cooks seem to have no understanding between burnt and charred. Yes, it’s a fine line of a few seconds, but once you go go past that charred line, you shouldn’t serve it.
Burnt: cauliflower, hush puppies
Charred: bread, octopus
Our server was great. Food was meh and cocktails overpriced. I miss the Santa Monica location. They did everything right. With its demise, the owners seems to have given up and so have I. Last time I’ll dine here.
Seafood overly salty and a bit raw. Heaters outside were nice and warm. Restaurant and decorations were beautiful. Service was only ok, it felt like we were being rushed even though we were basically the only ones there, they didn't offer to explain or recommend drinks. Parking difficult, restaurant of from the street. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't go back.
I love The Hungry Cat! The food is always fresh and delicious, and the service is excellent. This is a hidden gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood. The food is on the pricey side but because of how wonderfully prepared all the food is, and because of the attentive and friendly service, it's worth it. Definitely eat here after a show at The Pantages, or if you are in the mood for seafood while gazing at the "stars" on Hollywood Boulevard.
We always come here before a play at the Pantages theater and the food is usually pretty good. However, this time around they did not impress. We asked for a Caesar salad with no bacon but they still put bacon in it. Also, king crab is so much easier to eat if a pair of kitchen shears is used to put a slit down the shell which was not done until we asked. The Kampachi ceviche was pretty good. Overall though I expected more and it's definitely not as good as it used to be. Next time we will try different restaurant.
I confess that we chose this restaurant only because it was within walking distance of our hotel. We couldn't have been more pleased. We sat on the patio because of the beautiful evening. It was quiet and relaxing. My husband ordered a dish with steamed clams which he never gets to order at home. He was in heaven. My favorite thing was the roasted Brussels sprouts. They melted in our mouths. Our server was delightful. He helped us order all the right things including the right craft beers to pair with our meal. It's tucked away in an alley so you have to be looking for it. Make the effort. It's worth it.
Beware: The menu you see online is not the one in the restaurant. We were disappointed to find that several of the dishes we came in for, are not on the current menu. That, combined with an inattentive server made for a less than stellar evening. The Crab stuffed Squash Blossoms were quite good.
They forgot our reservation. We requested a romantic table and for placed in the middle of a random section with the smallest table. It took 30 min to get our first drink. 45 min to get out first order or food (6 oysters). Then we ordered crab legs and gnocchi to share but only got the gnocchi bc our waitress didn’t hear our order. I will never go back nor will I ever recommend it we’ve already yelped, twitter and Facebook blasted the awfulness.
I really, really wanted to love this place, but I just can't. Was very excited to try it as a pre-concert dinner before a show at the Palladium across the street. Easy to make reservation with Open Table and got my table on time on a Saturday night at 7:15pm. Wait staff was efficient but never even cracked a smile. The cocktails are good, if somewhat pricey, and take a long time to get. Oysters were fresh and tasty. Ordered Crab Legs special for $35 and got two very unremarkable crab legs and some toast. Ordered a pasta and seafood dish and the pasta was hard as a pencil eraser. Probably sat overcooking while the cook worked on something else. Interestingly enough, the dessert was the best. Apple Beignets with some butterscotch sauce.
So overall, an appetizer, some crab, some pasta, two cocktails, two beers and dessert for $135 plus $25 tips to Miss Never Smiles for a grand total of $160.
Needless to say we had to hit Denny's on the way home. I'll go somewhere else next time.
The atmosphere is nice and it has a chill vibe. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our server didn’t hear about an item I ordered & forgot it completely, and he also gave me a little attitude when I asked about another part of the order.
The seafood and drinks were tasty, and we enjoyed the happy hour as well.
Dinner started promisingly with basil cocktails. Highlight was two-tier seafood platter--excellent quality and presentation (better than Water Grill, my previous standard). Unfortunately, the entrees were pretty grim, each for a different reason. The steamed crabs legs were delicious, but the meat was scanty (unlike the legs served at the next table, which were impressively meaty). And the skate was simply nauseating--mushy fish served with mushy vegetables and a pumpkin rice that didn't taste like pumpkin. Worse yet, it was presented (through "presentation" is too strong a word) as a mealy mixed-together mash. Dessert was a chocolate bread and butter pudding with very little bread and very little butter. A closing amaretto sour was delicious, though. My recommendation: come for cocktails and seafood platters, and stay away from everything else.
