The Hungry Cat - Hollywood
Located in the Sunset & Vine Building in the heart of Hollywood, Chef David Lentz & crew have been serving up quality seafood since 2005. The focus is on high quality fish paired with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, from nearby farmer's markets. The raw bar showcases Pacific and Atlantic oysters, Santa Barbara sea urchin, raw and marinated fish dishes, crab and lobster.
the hungry cat bar specializes in seasonal, market driven cocktails, craft brews and an eclectic wine list .
the hungry cat is open daily serving dinner, with brunch on the weekends. The Veranda is an amazingly calm respite from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.
the hungry cat - it's a lifestyle!
Slow service, mistaken order, refusal to honor the bottomless mimosa offering only one mimosa...food not served at same time, with one meal coming when others were almost done, and hesitation when we asked for the 10% discount offered to theatre-goers who present their tickets...followed by the waitstaff needing to “get permission from management” to honor what was advertised yet again. Sry disappointed. Will not return nor recommend.
Nice venue with excellent Cioppino. Close to Hollywood venues such as Pantages.
Went on Valentines day. Arrived early but was still seated. Tables are a little small. Chowder was great, shellfish was Okay but I have had better. Price was fine. Great service by waiter.
Once we found the restaurant..its pushed back from the street, we had a great dining experience. The service great and food was delicious and they even serve 1/2 glasses of wine...outstanding
Great food and service with really knowledgeable waitstaff. Love this place.
Food was good, but the service was slow and inattentive.
Great find and quality seafood
THE FISH DID NOT APPEAR TO BE FRESH AND THEY DID NOT HAVE SEVERAL THINGS THAT WERE ON THE MENU THAT WE WANTED
Hungry Cat is the most consistently highly satisfying restaurant I know in Hollywood. The seafood is extraordinarily fresh and the sides and blend of flavors that go with it are inventive. The oyster shots are refreshing. This is my favorite place before or after the Arc Light or any of the nearby theatres.
This is our go-to place for dinner before a show at the Pantages. It's just far enough away that it's not crowded like the places in the immediate vicinity, and their seafood and artisanal cocktails are wonderful. Piped in loudish music is a pet peeve of mine, I don't like it here anymore than at any other restaurant. That's why we usually sit outside but it was cold and rainy this night. The branzino was excellent, my partner did not care for the cioppino, the flavor was bland - a rare miss for the Cat. But overall it's still very good and we'll be back.
Love the $1 oysters and Happy Hour cocktails on Mondays, and everything we’ve ordered from the dinner menu has been outstanding!
I would absolutely recommend the Hungry Cat to any of my friends or family. The service was great. I throughly enjoyed the food. While not over the top or spectacular, the flavors were great and prices were reasonable per LA/Hollywood standards. This is a great option if you are in the area for a show or doing tourist-y things!
The food was good. The Micheladas were surprisingly very good.
The food was good, not great. The dineLA specials had potential? But I’ve had better.
Wonderful! Excellent seafood quality and charming, friendly service and ambiance.
Decided to try out The Hungry Cat during DineLA restaurant week. Got the clam chowder as an appetizer which had real clams in the shells. Then had the scallops and risotto which was great. Dessert was apple beignets with caramel and the perfect finish. Definitely recommend this place!
Went for dineLA and they "weren't used to the volume" of people, per our server. There was probably a 15-minute wait when we arrived at 8:30pm on a Saturday. We were at the table for an hour before we had gotten our first course (soup and a salad, not complicated) and an hour after that before we had gotten our entrees. The waiter was fine, I appreciated his frankness with what was going on, but he offered to comp my boyfriend's next drink but didn't offer me anything! One comped drink for a table of two? It seemed pretty absurd to me. We were seated at 8:30pm (we had a reservation) and didn't leave until after 11pm. We had planned to see a movie at 10pm and missed it. Thankfully we hadn't bought our tickets in advance. The food was fine - the clam chowder was excellent - but certainly didn't justify how long we had to wait for everything. We were extremely disappointed.
Should be called the Hungry Customer. It took a full hour and a half after we sat down just to get our drinks (a virgin pomegranate spritz). Service was unbelievably bad. I asked if they could leave bacon out of the soup right away, and the waitress said no problem. An hour later, she comes back and says they can't. The entire meal took 3 hours to serve. Why? The waitress said they were overwhelmed by Dine LA, but there were no lineups and not even every table was full. Come on. Service disaster. The food was very good when it came. Nice big generous portions of shrimps. Good crab cakes. Barramundi and mushrooms prepared nicely. Outstandingly delicious salad. But by the time it came, it was too late to enjoy it. Perhaps the worst service I have ever had in LA. I guess these things happen sometimes. But it was handled very very poorly and the people who work there should know better. This isn't how you treat new customers. Not any customers. And not in 2019. Bad on you.
We booked an early seating time for Dinner prior to the show, "Wicked," at 5pm and had plenty of time to enjoy oyster shots, drinks, Shrimp, Scallops and excellent service from their kind staff members. Food was excellent and the outdoor patio was perfect for our evening. Parking was right there on the spot in the building. Loved this place. Love the food. We both loved it.
We are coming back again for our next theater show.
All of their seafood dishes especially The scallops are superb
They know their way around seafood and the DineLA menu was nicely put together and a great value.
I am a big fan of the Hungry Cat and our meals on this visit were excellent as usual.
The ambience of the restaurant is somewhat austere (steel and glass) but the vibe
is good. The staff members are friendly and welcoming.
Our most recent visit was during Restaurant Week, so the place was more crowded and
busy than on a typical weeknight. We were seated right away and given our choice of
a couple of tables. Perhaps because of Restaurant Week, or because we chose a table at
the far edge of the room, it took a while before any waiter(s) noticed us, and once we managed
to order our drinks, there was another long wait before the drinks actually showed up.
(Perhaps the bartender(s) got distracted?) Eventually we managed to order food and
overall we enjoyed our evening.
Did DineLA here and it was a great value. Our server also let us add on happy hour drinks and apps which was amazing since a lot of places won't let you combine offers. My barramundi was superb and clam chowder great. Meyer lemon parfait was a bit sweet and not the best, but overall good meal!
We expected the restaurant to be a little loud but it was actually pretty quiet. There were a good amount of people at the restaurant, not too crowdy or too empty. The service from the server was great and attentive. They have good drink menus and the food was also good.
Great food. Best seafood restraunt in town. I went there for my birthday. No cake at the end but the desert that came with the DineLA menu was fantastic.
We came for dine LA. The service was great. The food was good. They ran out of a few things in the dine la menu. The oysters were really fresh. I would recommend eating here for a casual dinner with friends.
What an amazing meal! So happy we went for the DineLA offering. Not to be missed.
Service was wonderful, as well.
Unfortunately the quality has suffered at this fine California seafood restaurant. Will not be returning as a decade long customer.
We love the hungry cat as our local fare.
There are very few restaurants we frequent.
Hope the hungry cat will be with us for a long time.
We love this restaurant. Great service and exceptional takes on seafood and more. Cocktails are top shelf and creative.
The food used to be outstanding but our meal was very average. The best thing we had was the clam chowder. The lobster pasta was very average and the quality of the lobster (little that there was) was not good. The lobster roll was just okay but the fries that came with it were cold and bad. The service was nice (though they did things like serve soup with no spoon so we had to flag down the staff after waiting for 5 min) but the quality of the food has really fallen especially for the price. It was the day after New Year's so maybe that accounted for the poor quality but the restaurant only had about 4 other tables so perhaps overall their food quality has gone down.
Great seafood, particularly raw bar. Lovely server (& this was NY eve).
NYE. Something was off that night. Seated 30 minutes late for a reservation at 8:30, part of the order did not arrive, they seemed unaware that they had free parking that evening. Great food always.
The food, atmosphere, and service were all outstanding!!! Will definitely come back again!
Food was very good but the service was painfully slow when we arrived and non-existent when we wanted to leave.
My husband and I go here often; we’ve spent a few New Year’s eve here as well.
The food is always fresh, particularly the oysters/raw bar selections. It is a creative menu, but not overwhelming. Wonderful glasses by the wine and terrific wine for reasonable prices by the bottle. The staff is outstanding and always willing to help. I have never, ever had a bad meal here.
Great food and service
a great seafood restaurant with some other meals for landlubbers.
Tucked away off Vine street so it is shaded and quiet. Really good clam chowder and lobster roll. Salads were good also. Could use better wine selections as there is only 3 choices by the glass.
Really imaginative versions of your favorite dishes: clam chowder with clams-in-the-shell included, Barramundi prepared unlike any version I've had before. Service was attentive and considerate. I'd go back in a second. Loved the ambiance. I also saw many people taking meetings and having private conversations without being bothered in any way. Topnotch.
