As always; outstanding cuisine - and very beautifully plated!
Great food.. a little pricey. Service was good.
We had a wonderful dinner, fantastic service and left with smiles that only come from such an outstanding experience as we had that night.
We enjoyed our dinner at this well run restaurant. The valet parking was efficient. The server was excellent. I had the salmon and my husband had the duck. The portions were perfect. I especially enjoyed the vegetables with their unique combination. The butternut squash soup was creamy and flavorful. We ended with the apple fritters which were tasty and easily shared.
We can’t wait to go back
We love William and Mary. Bill is an exceptional Chef. W&M is one of our go to restaurants, you can never go wrong.
Always an amazing experience. While the menu would never reflect this - the talented kitchen primates the most vegan vegan meals. Our “go to” restaurant. Love.
Once again, another amazing meal! Bill and Merry make you feel comfortable and part of their family!
Glad my wife and I tried this restaurant out. The kitchen, bar and part of dinning room are on first floor of an old house. The rest of the dinning area is upstairs. Very quaint and decorated nicely. Happy with the drinks we ordered. "House" Manhattan and a Pear Martini . Appetizer was The Chef's Tasting Board - enjoyed it. For the main course, my wife ordered the salmon and I the cod. We were happy with the choices. Wait staff was very friendly.
Two downsides - neither major. The parking lot is tiny. As a result they have complementary valet parking. Of course I rarely carry cash on my person. I drove over to Wawa after leaving to get a tip. Had I read in a previous review that there was valet parking, I would have been prepared. The other downside was that there was way too much time between the appetizer and the main course.
Other considerations. The menus and seating arraingments so not make this children friendly restaurant. That is not a bad thing. Just something to consider. Lastly, while there is no dress code, I would suggest business/business casual attire.
Once again, the House of William and Merry did not disappoint. My husband asked to go here for his birthday and we were delighted with their pre fixe Sunday supper special. Appetizer, Main Course, and Dessert were amazing! My only challenge was keeping the husband from "sharing" most of my meal.
Wonderful dining experience all around
Overall, we really like this place, but last night was disappointing. For the first time, we were seated upstairs in a room with a somewhat sterile ambiance, at a tiny little table with a view of the parking lot and the busy street beyond...not what we had envisioned to celebrate our Anniversary. And the next table was only a few feet away with loud talkers. We are now intimate with all of the details of their summer vacation.
Most of the food was very good, especially the fois gras appetizer, excellent. But the Duroc pork chop, was over cooked and dry, even though I requested it to be medium. For $38, I expected better.
Great space and accommodating staff so our group could celebrate a friend from out of town and her baby-to-be. We had a group of 7 and were able to get the first reservation on Saturday. Loved the brunch I enjoyed there a few months back and will return for sure!
Always excellent food and friendly service. A real gem not just in the Hockessin area but all of Delaware valley.
It is a very good fine dining restaurant. Fresh local menu, well prepared food and a solid wine list. Server was excellent. Very good food. We will be back soon.
I’ve been to the House of William and Merry a number of times and appreciate the great service (Antonio) and great food. The restaurant is charming and the menu selection is always pleasantly varied. The portions are not huge but sufficient. I highly recommend making reservations.
I love eating at William and Merry’s. From the Sunday prefix menu to the cocktails, everything is always enjoyable, elegant and reasonably priced.
Sunday brunch and the food was amazing, great service
Great overall experience. My parents absolutely loved celebrating their wedding anniversary at William and Merry.
Food was wonderful! Waiter was young and not very knowledgeable about food and wine in general, but still efficient and kind. Restaurant is two floors, intimate and nicely decorated. We dined on a Sunday evening, so it was a "Sunday supper" prix fixe menu (3 courses for $35/pp), but the selections still provided variety and were beyond expectations for the price. Between 4 people, we sampled almost everything from the prix fixe menu and were amazed by it all. Great cocktail menu and very nice wine list selections (without too ridiculous a markup). I really look forward to re-visiting to select from the full menu!
Menu has few items, but all are interesting and prepared to perfection. One of those places where foodies read the menu carefully and exclaim "wow, I never thought of doing that!". Great atmosphere, super wait staff and fantastic food. Parking is tight, but they have someone managing valet during busy times. A great experience - brought friends from out of the area and made a great impression.
A late Valentine’s Day Dinner. It was crowded but the food and service were excellent. Thanks.
Fantastic food as always. It's expensive but you're paying for the experience of ingredients that no one in this area but this restaurant can live up to. It's cozy, intimate, relaxing and very indulgent. We always look for reasons to go back!
Excellent food and excellent service at a reasonable price
Consistently a great experience- LOVE the food
We had a great time celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. Our server, Leslie, was amazing!!!
This was my fifth time eating here in the past two years. I have been for in for my anniversary, Valentine’s Day, and just a normal friends dinner. I have never had a bad meal or cocktail. Host, managers, servers, & owners are extremely friendly and make you want to go back. I also love how the menu is ever changing to keep it fresh. I also love how they use local ingredients in the meals.
Great place for an intimate dinner
Small menu, outstanding food
Great night out
the overall experience was great. we really enjoyed iur night out!!
Excellent --- Wow. It has been a long time since we could visit a restaurant in this area and leave the establishment saying we were so glad to have chosen it .... the quality, taste, presentation and service all contributed to an excellent evening. Even the car valet was so friendly, eager and intent on making sure all was well.
The food was excellent -- we talked about our respective dishes even the next day ... because the meal made such an impression.
Really enjoyed it. Gourmet food. Specials were very unique as well as their small plate menu. We didn't choose from the specials, however, our entrees were excellent and the presentation was world class!
The House of William & Merry is our favorite restaurant! We can’t say enough about its delicious food and cocktails. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed brunch and dinner several times, and always look forward to our next visit. The great food, warm service, and cozy atmosphere keep us returning. Thank you!
We received a gift certificate from a friend, therefore had a chance to be experience the House of William and Merry for the first time. The service was fast and friendly however as the first guest to arrive for the night we were seated upstairs instead of the main dining room. Not sure why as the main dining room seemed to be the place to be, maybe it was where the OpenTable bookings are reserved as they did greet us as the OpenTable booking.
Food was good, but tried too hard to be fancy. A little on the pricey side when compared to comparable resturants we frequent in the West Chester and Philly areas.
Never fails to disappoint!! Great food always at great value-PLEASE keep Sunday arrangement
We come here a lot for the brunch. The food is always fresh and creative. There is always a new twist on the preparation of each dish which vary seasonally. It is a delight to come and discover what wonderful new dishes are being served. This is a favorite.PS - the service is always great!
My wife and I have eaten at William and Merry's many times. There is always a friendly greeting and atmosphere. The service is excellent. The food has some unique qualities - all good.
There is no chance what so ever you can have a bad meal here. No matter what the menu, it’s just good.
Everything....just good! Nothing like a server who knows the menu and can answer any question you have. Worth the trip, worth the price, and worth doing more then once.
Brunch is a treat also
Best restaurant in northern delaware, easy to get to from pa or nj.
House of William & Merry
On our latest visit to the Wilmington area, we found the House of William & Merry, located in an old restored farmhouse in Hockessin. We made a trip during the day to locate it and we were glad we did because it was dark by the time of our reservation. We were seated upstairs, which quickly filled with fellow diners. We sipped prosecco while perusing the menu of contemporary American cuisine. We started with some beer batter smelts as an appetizer, then moved on to salads (warm spinach and arugula and house caesar), and for entrees, the pan kissed copia which came with a fabulous sweet potato puree and the (enormous) Berkshire pork shank. We even had room for dessert: the apple fritters with local apple confit and ice cream assortment. From the wine list, we had the 2015 Trimbach Riesling. Service was friendly and correct. It’s popular with the locals and we enjoyed it very much.
Great food as usual. Sat on 2nd floor which has great views. Gave service 4 stars because they forgot to mark 3/4 guests before our entres arrived. No forks = no eats. Other than that it was outstanding.
