The House of William & Merry Ratings and Reviews
I am amazed each time I eat here at how delicious and perfect the food is. I truly believe that they have the best food in Delaware. Or anywhere in the surrounding area for that matter. The servers know everything about the menu, and are able to make excellent recommendations. The season menu is ever-changing and unique. During this visit, we were able to get the chef's tasting menu and it did not fail to impress - including impressing our very well-traveled foodie friends who were with us. The entire table has to participate, but it was well worth it. I choose not to get the wine pairing, but quickly wished I had. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves food.
We took my mother-in-law for her birthday and had Sunday Supper. Each of us loved every course and our drinks were wonderful, too. They also were very accommodating for our children and made them special, kid-friendly food even though they don't have kids meals on the menus. They seay families upstairs and parties with no children downstairs so everyone is happy with their setting. I would definitely recommend this for date nights and family nights alike!
I've never been, but heard great things. Boy, were the other reviews correct! The service was impeccable, the wine list was quality, the drinks were well thought out and properly executed. We started with a cheese board that was well mixed and garnished well. We both had the cream of asparagus soup. My date had the cavetelli and I had the suckling pig. Both wee amazing. I highly, highly recommend the House of William and Merry. Can't wait to go back!
First thanks to OpenTable for getting us a reservation when the restaurant said they were booked!! Overall a very nice place to eat with trendy takes on food without being all Grant Achatz. The staff is friendly and down home, always helpful and will to ask the back when they don't know an answer to a query. Cocktails are well imagined, tasty and well constructed.
No wonder we keep coming back. From appetizers to dessert everyting was wonderful. We went for our 25th anniversary. We had the pork belly appetizer. It was huge and probably the best I've ever had. Crisp on top and melt in your mouth bottom. Had the 12hr veal breast - fell apart and was delicious. Scallops were perfectly golden seared and came with pineapple. Get the chocolate cake with the brickle crust for dessert...And the service is great
We have eaten at the House on several occasions. Always outstanding food, wine and service the Sunday Supper is the real bargain. The menu is limited to three choices each for appetizer, main course and dessert but we have always found exciting options and the price is exceptional for a restaurant of this caliber. The recent pan fried salmon topped with a red pepper cream sauce was the best I have ever eaten. The pork loin was a bit more done that we like - we are "pink pork" aficionados - but was still very moist and the accompaniments brought outstanding flavor to the plate.
Its a little pricey but a very good choice for special occasions!
I found this place in OpenTable and what a gem it was! Ambiance was very nice and food was delicious!!!
If you haven't been to this place, then you must go at least once. I am sure you will love it!
For my most recent lunch I ordered the Bird's Nest salad which, to say the VERY LEAST, I did not enjoy. On ordering I did ask that the poached egg be substituted or that it be left out. I think the waitress at this point should have said that without the egg my lunch entree salad would then arrive with a very, very small amount of Bibb lettuce, a few (very few) balls of wild boar bacon and several walnuts. I was startled to see that there was SO LITTLE of it, and believe me, I am not a big eater. I told the waitress, when she asked us how the meal was, how displeased I was, but no adjustment whatever was offered. It spoiled my dining experience to the extent that I will never have our alumni group or any other friends go there again.
We were very pleased with the atmosphere and the cocktails we ordered. The service was as good as we've ever had and it was clear that the entire staff took great pride in the restaurant. But we felt like the food itself just missed the mark with us. Maybe our expectations were a little too high but neither of us left raving about our meals. With that said, it's still a beautiful place and we'll probably try them again in the summer.
first time visiting and parking took us by surprise... thankfully it was valet parking! we came at the busiest time and it was SO loud in there, but as customers dwindle, noise level was much better. music was not loud, the enclose space and proximity to other customers were the source of the noise. I can't say enough good things for the food and service... it was so excellent we are definitely coming back to our new favorite restaurant
This place is my absolute favorite! Food is wonderful, staff is terrific, I love to sit in the front, have drinks and either just starters or full dinner - all at the bar. Tables are cozy and intimate, but the bar is a great place to dine. The open kitchen makes you feel part of the action! With the seasonal menus and in the moment specials, the Chef keeps you wanting to try everything!
There is rarely anything on their prix fixe menu that you couldn't do at home but all three courses were polished..the salad with a hint of citrus, the steak resting on a bed of silky mashed potato, surrounded by a mound of baby, crunchy Brussels sprouts and dessert two kind of citrus cake garnished. Wonderful meal!
We have only been to the House of William and Merry for Sunday brunch. The food is beautiful and amazing. The breakfast burrito is huge, and filled with a delicious mix of things i would not have imagined, but which are perfect together. It changes weekly. My friend had the bananas foster french toast which was … my mouth is watering as i type this … sweet and not too sweet and delicious - crusty on the outside and perfect on the inside. The ambience of this place is soft and casual, yet upscale. It's like being welcomed into a home for a delicious meal.
it's our favorite place for sunday brunch, and worth the drive from Fair Hill, MD.
We were able to get a last minute reservation through Open Table. The only uncomfortable part of the evening was having to wait about 10 minutes for the table, there was little waiting room with so many people coming and going. After being seated, we ordered 2 fabulous martinis and the chef's tasting which was an arrangement of sausages, duck and a tuna pate, an excellent choice. The restaurant has its own charcutier. Our entrees, trout crusted with hazelnuts served with haricot verts and a light cream sauce, the second a declan beef cut served rare with jalapeño mashed potatoes both were excellent choices. We also had chocolate crème brulee which was creamy chocolate goodness! Excellent knowledgeable service, worth the cost!
Aside from the parking difficulty (a staff member finally came out and parked my car, thank goodness), the evening was a very nice dining experience. My salmon was absolutely the best I've ever had, my friend's duck was super. The only downside was a pork chop that, though presented attractively, was quite tough and fatty full of gristle/fat. I'll definitely return for some more of the menu items. The chef's imaginative and very attractive offerings were much appreciated. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion or special romantic evening.
Very welcoming and great food. Enjoy the ambiance of eating downstairs especially for Dinner. Brunch is great, also enjoy
eating downstairs or outside if the weather permits. We celebrated different occasions here and everything was
outstanding. We will highly recommend this restaurant to others.
Have been by this location many times not realizing this was a dining experience waiting to happen. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated promptly. Menu offered options and the food when presented was appetizing to the eye as well as to the taste. Very pleased with all aspects of the dining experience. We intend to return and try the brunch as well.
We ate at William and Merry's for the first time on a Wednesday. We were very pleased and will return for another dinner. The service was exceptional, our server was attentive but not annoying, a difficult balance to achieve. The soup and meal were very good and just the right portion for both of us. The dessert was great, we had the creme brulee and were treated for the first time to a chocolate rendition. Lastly even the coffee was good which sets the restaurant apart as we have had many a good meal only to be served weak and luke warm coffee.
We'll be back
