The House of William & Merry Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointing omelet. It was dripping in either cooking oil or the cooked cheese residue. The fruit was fresh and very plentiful. The omelet is served without any bread product or potatoes which would have been welcomed to offset the oil.
Pumpkin pancakes were a little on the undercooked side. However, they were tasty and plentiful.
The breakfast bread bites served with delicious coffee were very nice.
Service was outstanding.
Overall, a little pricey for the end results.
We had not been to House of William & Merry in a while, so on an impulse we decided to go again. We were not disappointed! They always serve great food prepared in unique ways, have a solid wine and cocktails list. We sat upstairs and the noise level was fine for the handful of tables already in the room. There was a large table set for a group dinner and celebration, but they arrived as we were finishing up so no issues with noise. Recommend!
Sunday supper was wonderful. The well balanced salad with just the right amount of dressing, husband's meat loaf was the best and salmon was delicious and cooked beautifully ( skin was crispy and fish moist) . Chocolate pots de creme and pumpkin cake were the perfect ending. Also a very nice wine list for bottles and by the glass. The ala carte menu (not available on Sunday) looked amazing-we are planning our next dinner to enjoy the ala carte menu; driving from Wayne, PA! This was a perfect destination coming from an afternoon boating on the Chesapeake.
We chose the House for our anniversary and couldn’t be happier with our decision. The prix fixe offered on Sunday night was perfect. She had a pork loin and I had cavatelli. Handmade cocktails were outstanding, too. Just can’t say enough good things and we can’t wait to go back with friends.
Went to this place few times in the past, wrote a great review about it. This time I am shocked. I ordered the same appetizer Foie grais, which had the same high price, the only difference It was so small you need microscope to find it . It was clever they pair it with couple of slices of lamb loin( capriccio thin slices ).That really spilled the evening for us. We complained to waiter who said he will tell chef !! Never heard from him. This is my review , Sad service
This restaurant has always had a great mix of unique dishes and a variety of choices. While some reviewers concentrate on the noise levels you have to keep in mind that this is a setting in a converted house. Great job W & M staff and thank you for being a consistent gem!
Went for last minute Sunday Supper. Was crazy about how the fish was going to be prepared so I asked instead of beer battered and deep fried, could I get pan seared. No problem with the request. Dinner was amazing and ingredients very fresh with great presentation. Was very satisfied.
We went here for our anniversary. I knew about the price fix menu and thought it would be okay with three options. Fried cod, beef fajitas and a Spicy pasta. Husband loved the pasta. The cod was on a bed of tasteless sweet potato purée. The cod was good but two small pieces. The salad was fresh and crispy and a nice large portion. Bread was two small slices of garlic bread. Desserts all had dairy so we had the brownie with no ice cream or whipped cream. Nice and warm brownie very rich and chocolatey. The service was friendly and staff wished us happy anniversary.
Must have been our best visit yet. The place was not full, but as always the restaurant is a bit noisy, but we’re there for the food, and such wonderful food.
Cast iron octopus was soft and tasteful, I’ve never had octopus tentacles prepared to such a soft texture, yet not mushy.
Chef’s tasting board is always wonderful, it varies each time a little bit, but each time it’s spot on.
The swordfish was prepared beautifully, still moist, and flavorful, but the sides absolutely killed it, I could order a whole other plate of just the sides and be happy.
The special of the day was Foie Gras two ways, if Foie Gras is your thing, this cold and hot version of the liver was perfect. All you taste is the sweetness, no gaminess. Paired with fresh figs and fig sauce from the tree in the back. So good.
The food was excellent albeit a bit eclectic. I would go back in a flash for that but was disappointed by both the quality and speed of the service. It was over an hour from when we ordered before our entrees were delivered and although there were bread and butter plates we were not offered any bread until I questioned why were their bread and butter plates at each setting if they were not offering any. Also they took away our silver with the appetizer plates but did not replace it until after our entrees were delivered and we pointed out that we did not have utensils.
I had been treated to an amazing lunch here for my 40th birthday, so a year later I made reservations for our wedding anniversary dinner. The staff, the food, the drinks, the intimate atmosphere- everything was simply incredible! Yes you need to be prepared to spend some money, but it is well worth it for the attention to detail. From the friendly, not stuffy, and knowledgeable staff to the incredible seasonal menu being presented with creative and deep flavors - and don't forget the phenomenal drink creations - I can't say enough good things about this place! A special occasion win for certain!
Such a special restaurant for us. My husband and I had our first date there, so we continue to frequent for special evenings celebrating, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Our food, wine, and service is simply outstanding every time. Very special and unique restaurant. Highly recommend to everyone!
The House of William and Merry is the best!! It is a quaint, relaxing and friendly place with outstanding food and service. It felt like being warmly invited into a hidden farmhouse gem. The staff is super pleasant and knowledgeable about all the dishes and beverages. Fresh and quality ingredients are used in the incredibly delicious dishes, and it was clear that everything was prepared with care and attention. We enjoyed brunch outside and swooned over the pork belly, chef's special burrito, peach 77 cocktail, locally roasted coffee, and chocolate truffles. We will definitely return to this exceptional restaurant!
This restaurant was recommended by friends who knew we were visiting sites in the area. We opted for Sunday brunch as it fit better into our sightseeing plans better than dinner. I wish we had tried dinner instead. Since we went pretty early (just after 10am) the restaurant was quite empty which was okay but it did cause any noises from the kitchen to be easily heard. Also, we were seated right by the stairway to the upper level and we heard the staff running up and down throughout our meal.
My husband enjoyed his Eggs Benedict but I was quite disappointed in mine. I ordered 'stuffed' French toast with marscarpone cheese, strawberries and topped with whipped cream. Really, what I received was two rather thin pieces of French toast with the cheese and strawberries in between them. There was absolutely nothing special about this dish and given that I had heard great things about the restaurant, I was let down.
I would still go back, however, just to give it another chance. But, I would go for dinner.
We were in the area for a visit to Longwood Gardens and wanted a nice dinner. Thanks to Open Table, we found William and Merry. It was a warm summer evening and we were given a table on the front porch. The server was very pleasant and helpful -- we have a couple dietary constraints (gluten, lactose). The kitchen accommodated our needs and delivered delightful dishes. To top off the evening, we chose the dessert special of the evening -- fresh figs with balsalmic, choped nuts, fresh mint, etc. It was innovative and delicious. Next time we are in the area, we will again visit William and Merry.
