The House of William & Merry Ratings and Reviews
This was my fifth time eating here in the past two years. I have been for in for my anniversary, Valentine’s Day, and just a normal friends dinner. I have never had a bad meal or cocktail. Host, managers, servers, & owners are extremely friendly and make you want to go back. I also love how the menu is ever changing to keep it fresh. I also love how they use local ingredients in the meals.
Excellent --- Wow. It has been a long time since we could visit a restaurant in this area and leave the establishment saying we were so glad to have chosen it .... the quality, taste, presentation and service all contributed to an excellent evening. Even the car valet was so friendly, eager and intent on making sure all was well.
The food was excellent -- we talked about our respective dishes even the next day ... because the meal made such an impression.
The House of William & Merry is our favorite restaurant! We can’t say enough about its delicious food and cocktails. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed brunch and dinner several times, and always look forward to our next visit. The great food, warm service, and cozy atmosphere keep us returning. Thank you!
We received a gift certificate from a friend, therefore had a chance to be experience the House of William and Merry for the first time. The service was fast and friendly however as the first guest to arrive for the night we were seated upstairs instead of the main dining room. Not sure why as the main dining room seemed to be the place to be, maybe it was where the OpenTable bookings are reserved as they did greet us as the OpenTable booking.
Food was good, but tried too hard to be fancy. A little on the pricey side when compared to comparable resturants we frequent in the West Chester and Philly areas.
There is no chance what so ever you can have a bad meal here. No matter what the menu, it’s just good.
Everything....just good! Nothing like a server who knows the menu and can answer any question you have. Worth the trip, worth the price, and worth doing more then once.
Brunch is a treat also
House of William & Merry
On our latest visit to the Wilmington area, we found the House of William & Merry, located in an old restored farmhouse in Hockessin. We made a trip during the day to locate it and we were glad we did because it was dark by the time of our reservation. We were seated upstairs, which quickly filled with fellow diners. We sipped prosecco while perusing the menu of contemporary American cuisine. We started with some beer batter smelts as an appetizer, then moved on to salads (warm spinach and arugula and house caesar), and for entrees, the pan kissed copia which came with a fabulous sweet potato puree and the (enormous) Berkshire pork shank. We even had room for dessert: the apple fritters with local apple confit and ice cream assortment. From the wine list, we had the 2015 Trimbach Riesling. Service was friendly and correct. It’s popular with the locals and we enjoyed it very much.
We have been dining at The House of William & Merry for years, In fact, we waited for them to open. We never have been disappointed. The servers are professional, knowledgeable and charming; the food is excellent - creative, exciting and delicious. We will continue to consider this restaurant as a favorite.
Came for a holiday Sunday brunch after church. The food was outstanding as always. The smoked duck sandwich entree (biscuits with Siracusa maple syrup) were amazing. Prices are reasonable for the high quality food. Friendly and efficient service. One of our new favorites!!
Food is quite good as is the service. Despite that, we would not dine at W&M again. The noise level makes for a very unpleasant dining experience. It is not easy to carry on a conversation. A substantial part of dining is the general ambience and W&M fails in that department.
Initially I had requested for an exchange of a menu item due to heat intolerance. Food arrived without the change and food was too spicy. Waitress willingly took the food back while at the same time commented that a part of the dish was spicy as well as the item I asked to be substituted. They brought me a new dish with items omitted - duck was slightly overdone on the second serving, yet the flavor was spectacular.
We have been here several times and always enjoy the food and service.
On our most recent lunch visit the food was very good.
I had the lambwich (lamb sandwich). My husband had the hash, son 1 had the kids French toast with a side of bacon and son 2 had the pulled pork sandwich.
The fries here are amazing (they really have a good potato flavor and the potions are very generous) and the bacon is always smoky and crispy.
My lamb was delicious although they were a little stingy on the amount - it was very thinly sliced and really only covered about half the sandwich.
The hash was really tasty although it could have had 2 eggs instead of 1 and the egg was a bit hard (no yolk to run over the hash).
The pulled pork sandwich was a huge hit. Totally delicious.
French toast was perfect. As good as it gets.
