they advertised 2 for 1 appetizers and that is why we went. We tried this restaurant 4 yrs. ago and wasn't all that great then that is why we didn't come back. So we thought we would give it another try and it was still pretty much the same thing. Although I did get a hair in my appetizer which was off putting. They brought me another app but everyone was finished eating by the time it got there!! I was not overly impressed with the food and the decor has not changed at all since the last time we were there.
Decided to drive to Homer for the day and had always heard about the Homestead but never been there...so made reservations on the way...wasn't disappointed...the food was excellent.
The Homestead is my favorite restaurant in Alaska. The fare is delicious, varied regularly and made with local ingredients, including fresh local seafood. The beautiful views of Kachemak Bay complement every meal, as does the impeccable service.
Our meal was outstanding, and this is a must-stop restaurant if you're in Homer. The seafood dishes are creative and cooked to perfection. The meat lover in our party was also impressed with his meal. Our server was also outstanding, knowledgable about the menu and also local sights. One of our best meals in Alaska!
Worth walking too if necessary. Best martini's on the planet and the prime rib is pretty nice too. Suggest you visit and get you one of each!
Really wonderful restaurant! And the desserts are fabulous!!
Well worth the drive out of Homer to this quaint restaurant with a great view. The food and wine selections were excellent. They seemed short a waitress when we were there but the bartender and hostess pitched in to help and we were well taken care of. The calamari appetizer was the best ever. The seafood was cooked to perfection. The steak-eaters loved their meals. Dessert was shared around the table and there wasn't a bite left. We will definitely return. You should go here!
Address was wrong. Missed it by three miles!!! Did not answer the phone until after we stopped at another location.
If you are a visitor to the Homer area, this restaurant should be on your "must dine" list. And if you can get a window seat your experience will have an additional WOW factor.
We loved it - the service, the food, the view. Wish I could go back but I was on vacation.
We've never had a bad meal here! Our seafood & steak were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Highly recommend!
Great dinner, waitress was very nice and efficient,
We found the food to be ok, but very pricey. The portions were very large. Three of us split an appetize and the king crab legs, and the bull was $105.
The shrimp app was just ok, it locked in spicing and flavor.
The king crab was very good, but they didn't even serve it with butter.
All in all, i would not go back.
Excellent fresh seafood with perfect wine pairings. Historically wonderful celebration spot. Thank you for another wonderful evening at The Homestead !
When in Homer One MUST Visit the Homestead! Formally "rustic" dining at it's finest!
The food was awesome. The staff worked hard to accomade a group 8 without notice
Worth walking to if necessary. A REAL gem in the crown of Homer, Alaska's dining scene. The chef is a true culinarian who understands food and flavor profiles for the most discriminate palate.
A must-do for any visit to Homer! I can't say enough about the staff, the food, the view! Very personable but not overly attentive staff who were very knowledgable about the menu; excellent local food choices such as fresh seafood dishes; a wide variety of drinks available, including beer and wines that are made locally; decadent desserts. The best food that I've had in Homer. Beautiful view of Kachemak Bay as well.
Went specifically to have oysters. After way too long to get our orders, the waitress informed us they were out of oysters. The six of us then had to rearrange how we wanted the meal to go. Though service was not good, the food (especially the prime rib) was very good. It's amazing how a disappointment and poor service can ruin a relative great meal.
The staff was friendly and the food delicious and not overpriced. We enjoyed sitting at the window and having a great view. The ambience was okay, but could be a little bit cozier. There is a lot parking space, but no possibility to sit outside (we didn't see any). I would recommend that restaurant to friends for a nice dinner.
Fantastic food, knowledgeable and friendly staff- just wish we had been around for the side-stripe shrimp season this year. But we do appreciate that they don't try to serve peoducts when they aren't at their best...
We've eaten in many great restaurants on several continents. It doesn't 't get any better than the Homestead!
Over priced and underwhelming. Quality is surpassed by some people in town. Great wine list though.
Romantic, or celebrate a special occasion. Notable Wine list. Prime Rib is the special on Friday night. Truly delicious food with artful presentation.
Excellent location in the country-side with great view of the ocean and mountains and glaciers across the bay. Excellent food and ambiance with quiet setting, great service. Wide selection of wines by the glass.
We had a wonderful evening at the Homestead on Thursday with a friend visiting Alaska for the first time. The food was prepared to perfection using local ingredients. The wine list was quite suitable as well. Our server, Melody, was delightful and helpful. The view was amazing. We were not rushed and could enjoy our conversation. We will definitely be back with more guests.
We were in Homer for the umpteenth time. This place is about nine miles away from town and we hadn't ever noticed it. The service was perfect. We had a short wait for our table but we were ourselves late so it was not excessive. The bartender was friendly and there was none of the crowding and jostling that waits at some restaurants entail. The food was Serb. Mostly local ingredients and all obviously carefully prepared and plated. The portions were Alaska Size in spite being Fine dining top quality cooking. We will be back soon as we get to Homer again,
Our server was outstanding (Caroline???-blond). The filet mignon was superb as was the marrow of the bone. The prime rib was not very good. The drinks were smooth and strong. The dessert just melted in your mouth. It was about a 15 minute drive out of Homer, but worth it!
This is a real dining gem of the Kenai Peninsula. One of Homer's BEST KEPT dining secrets and only 8 miles out of town. We would walk there if we had to. The food, service and ambiance is superb and REAL Alaskan dining at it's finest. And Mr. Vern, the Bartender, is a real bartender.
Place was clean, but not high class like their prices. Paper over a white table cloth. Plain decor. No ambiance. Sky high prices. Good food, but not great. I would go again, maybe. For the price, the food should have been better prepared, and more plentiful portions. Here we are in Alaska, and the king crab legs prices are higher than they are on the east coast. I don't get it. Step up your game some and the prices you command might be worth it. 3 star restaurant at 5 star prices.
