The Hobbit Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Energetic Crowd! We were in Ocean City, MD for our 30th anniversary weekend & since our other evening was casual, we wanted a more upscale restaurant for the 2nd evening. We had a 7:30 reservation & the place was packed. We were seated & it was a nice touch there was a printed Happy Anniversary card on the table. We ate the price fixed menu where you chose 3 out of 4 offerings (appetizer, salad, entree or dessert). I chose the beef tenderloin empanadas w/ blue cheese. (Good, but kept thinking this is made with someone's leftover steak, oey). Hubby had caesar salad, very good. We both had the 10 oz glass of wine. Big glass of wine! Good house pinot noir. I had the crab cake & my husband had swordfish. Both very good. Ended with creme brulee, which again, was delightful. Place was VERY noisy, in fact people behind us were screaming laughing & pounding on the table. Not quite the place for a quiet anniversary dinner, but it was Sat night. We also had to ask the staff, because out of the 5 tables surrounding us, we were 1st to order, but last one served dinner. Again, not a big deal.We realize it is the end of the season. A very nice place, beautiful inside, cathedral ceilings, nice view (if it wasn't dark out). Nice menu & staff were friendly, even walking us outside to wish us Happy Anniversary.
A much improved visit from our visit last year. Beautiful sunset. Tim was a great server - cordial and good pacing. Delicious salads and appetizers with veal and crab cake entrees. Loved the $40 wine opportunities to celebrate 40 years. Looking forward to next season!
I have never really had a great meal in ocean city Maryland this changed that. Beautiful restaurant, great service wonderful food. We caught it on restaurant week so it was not only delicious but reasonable. Love the $40 wine list. All in All a great dinner . We will definitely be back.
We’ve eaten here every time we get away to Ocean City. The food was terrific. My husband had the cheeseburger soup, which he loved. My filet, ordered medium, was way too rare, but was quickly fixed, and they took my glass of wine off the check. Very nice of them. Service was impeccable. Noise level is very high. Don’t expect quiet conversation.
This is an excellent restaurant in all respects. The food and service are top notch. We have a meal at the Hobbit every time we visit Ocean City and have never been disappointed. The wait staff seem to enjoy their work which is a real plus and you get the feeling that they realize that in their line of work the Hobbit is the place to work in Ocean City. We were seated beside the window and had a fantastic view of the sunset.
This was our first time to the Hobbit, but it won't be the last. All 4 of us had fabulous meals. The view of the bay was great with nice wetlands and a Blue Herron out for everyone to watch. The only disappointment was that Hurricane Maria was off shore and making it a cloudy day, so no fabulous sunset to be seen. The service was also excellent. We will return.
Family dinner of 8 to celebrate my parent's 50th Anniversary. We had made a reservation for 7:45P. A party of 4 came in at the same time and was told it would be a one hour wait.
Had prior communication with the manager about the occasion. They put a card on the table that said "Happy Anniversary" and said we would have a window seat so we could enjoy the view. Should have thought about the fact it was night time - we couldn't see anything so I can't attest to what it looks out on to. There are a lot of windows (the outside walls are all large windows).
Another part of the prior communication was about some special dietary needs. They were very gracious in accommodating what we needed.
The food was very, very good. The server never spent much time at our table, but was friendly and efficient.
My one issue that made it less than 5 stars? The noise! It was so, so hard to have a conversation - it was like being in a loud bar but without the music. We were literally shouting at each other across the table all night.
The food was very good. Our friends from Wisconsin thoroughly enjoyed it. Our gent friend actually ordered 3 orders of lollipop lamb chops! The downside is it's quite noisy and we had to shout a few times to be heard by each other. Also it would help if the wait staff would smile a bit more
The Hobbit is an upscale restaurant with a beautiful view of the sunset over the bay. It was quite busy on a Wednesday night. Portions were generous, and our food was delicious! The staff was professional and welcoming. The prices make this a special occasion night out for us, but I would recommend it for couples or groups who are looking for a pleasant evening and a fine dining experience.
Have lived in Ocean City Md over 10 years but never dined at The Hobbitt. The view was panorama and the food amazing. Both our dishes were bountiful , served hot and delicious. The dessert and coffee were equally upscale and topped off the meal. Well worth the visit and as the room slowly filled with adults you could carry on your conversation just fine. Thanks for a very nice eveneing.
Always a great meal and good service! My whole table had the filet (which is sooo unusual!) and was worth it!!! The filet melted in our mouth--flavor unbelievable!!!! fingerling potatoes were crisp on the outside and soft and selfish on the inside. EXCELLENT!!!!!
The Hobbit is the best restaurant in Ocean City, MD. The service is superb, the new facility has a pleasant, modern decor. The food was delicious- we recommend the steak and salmon (photos attached). The view of the bay at sunset is magnificent. The Hobbit hsa been tops since we foirst started visiting OC 25 years ago, and it remains on top after an hiatus of 15 years.
We wanted to try the early bird menu. We arrived at 5pm and were promptly greeted by our waitress. She gave us menus but we had to ask about the early bird menu. I was a little put off by that.
The choices for the early bird menu were varied and all very appealing. I enjoyed the shrimp and risotto and my husband enjoyed the flounder with crab imperial. Service was excellent, food was very tasty and the view was superb.
We will definitely return to The Hobbit.
We went because The Hobbit has one of 'the three best restaurant views in Maryland' according to a summer 2017 survey by Open Table. The floor to ceiling windows offered a wonderful view from most tables and from our table, the sunset was terrific.
My 8 oz. blackened fillet with boursin cheese sauce was a yummy, melt-in-your-mouth tender entrée - - a great choice.
The only downer was the noise level. This restaurant is in need of some sound deadening drapes or other measures, as we are considering not returning due to the fact that it was hard to hear each other.
We have been meaning to visit the hobbit for the past 3 visits and we finally did it. The experience was outstanding from beginning to the end. We decided to go just before sunset. The view was breathtaking with drinks and appetizers. Our waiter was very cordial and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our meals as the sun finally set and night settled in. It was such an experience. The staff seems to know to leave you alone and enjoy your meal but are there when you need a fill up on drinks. We will be visiting The Hobbit each visit back to Ocean City, MD.
Since the Hobbit was listed as one of the top restaurants in a survey by Open Table, we decided to try it, and we were not disappointed. The setting is beautiful, especially at sunset. Our server, Anna, was an absolute delight and really made our meal fun! We started with a cocktail, then salads. My husband had the filet which he said was delicious. I had the macadamia encrusted swordfish--incredible!!
For dessert. I had Creme Brûlée--served with fresh berries. My spouse had the spectacular ice cream concoction., which is huge! The Hobbit is pricey--our bill with tip was around $190. But we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner from start to finish! (I did notice on the take home menu that there are early bird specials reasonably priced if seated before 5:45)
