The Hind's Head - Bray
On the ground floor, the Restaurant has been remodelled whilst conserving the historic feature and integrity of the building.
Upstairs, our guests are invited to explore the Royal Lounge bar. An opulent space, perfect to indulge in our cocktail list, refined spirits, small batch gins and our fantastic champagne and wine list combined with our new snacks menu. We would advise arriving 30 minutes before your reservation time to enjoy the full experience.
Please see the restaurant website for our current menus.
Keep us waiting for 25 minutes for our table, which we had booked as an anniversary celebration a couple months in advance. Poor show, especially when table was booked for 8:45pm which is late enough, plus we had to ask the waitress countless times what was happening. She did bring us some complimentary olives, however for the length of time it took to seat us I would have expected money off the bill and an apology.
We arrived, on time, and were met and shown to our table. The initial service was prompt (and my Martini excellent. We ordered but waited nearly an hour for our starters, and a long time too for the mains. The waiter said something about the system not working - no real apology. My meal (carpaccio, steak and chocolate mousse) was outstanding. My wife's main course, stone bass was awful - a nice bit of fish swamped in a sauce. This is NOT 1 Star cooking. My actual meal was excellent, but the slow service, lack of caring about the speed, and my wife's poor main course put me off. We are not likely to return.
Food was lovely. Service was very slow and the waiters were not very attentive. We have been here a few times and it doesn’t seem to be a “bad” day where the service is concerned. Prices were high and comparative to better service.
Very lovely room but the food and service isn’t top notch enough for the very steep price. Puddings were the best. Toilets really rather mean looking for such a top notch restaurant. Wasn’t offered any help with my coat as I left - perhaps one shouldn’t expect that kind of service? Afraid I wouldn’t return
Really disappointed with the food and overall experience. Tatty, unloved pub. Needs some Love.
Food was excellent and very reasonably priced (as well as the drinks) for what was an exquisite tasting experience - could still visualise and taste the flavours the next day and wanted more. No a no rush, full customer service mentality meant that no request was ignored and the staff went out of their way to help/assist.
Disappointing and very limited options for vegetarians- unacceptable these day. Inadequate service and explanations from staff when requesting alternative options for vegetarians. Forgot to bring our cheese course- we had to remind them,by that time we decided not to bother.
Superb in every way!
I found the service surprisingly inattentive for a quiet night. A number of times our conversation was interrupted by a command to do something. This was at odds with a lovely venue and really interesting food. I left puzzled by what was happening here. We ended up fishing our coats off the coat rack.
Service needs to improve for a restaurant of this quality.
Phenomenal! The food was out of this world and the service was excellent. Can’t wait to go back
Don’t expect a quick lunch but do expect every dish to be perfection. Beautiful food takes time.
Tasty, albeit rather small plates of food and attentive service, but the wine was over-priced and the windows so draughty that we asked to move tables; even sitting by the fire wasn’t that warm so if you go, wrap up warm and prepare to dig deep for a good meal.
60th birthday celebration
Had a great time and lovely meal with the misses on our baby moon. Not cheap but very reasonably priced for the standard of food with quality drinks on offer too, though I can't comment on the wine list as we weren't drinking it. Will definitely return at some point and would recommend to anyone thinking of going.
Amazing Sunday fixed price lunch- good value for what we had. Thoroughly enjoyed!
Wonderful, caring staff, with a relaxed homely vibe. The deserts were a particular highlight, with a nod towards higher end places in flavour and presentation.
Stunning food and fantastic service . Another Heston triumph !
Excellent service and wonderful food
Excellent food and service . Accommodating maitre d
We booked for lunch but the service was terrible. When we queried why after 1.5 hours we had only had starters, the server looked at us with confusion and proclaimed in a snotty way that it was lunchtime so the kitchen was very busy. Unmmm, if you can’t accommodate the tables you’ve booked for (particularly as bookings are essential there) then don’t take a reservation. The waiter was just so terribly rude. When we then ordered puddings and asked that they put into the kitchen before we completed our mains he again looked at us in a disgusted way and told us he couldn’t guarantee they wouldn’t be served with our meal. We had a 5 year old with us so whilst we wanted to enjoy the food and ambience, a 2.5 hour lunch was a bit too long of a time commitment. Also, considering our bill was nearly £300 (we had no alcohol) I hardly expect to be treated like an inconvenience on the wait or kitchen staff..
Lovely evening as always. Guaranteed to meet our expectations every time.
Excellent food. If the scotch egg is on the menu definitely can not be missed. Atmosphere is very classic British. A great place for a special occasion meal.
My husband and I came here to celebrate both our birthdays. We had drinks in bar first which were fantastic as always. Staff were excellent and escorted us down to our dining table. Staff had gone the extra mile to arrange a private table for us by the log fire at the back of the restaurant, which was wonderful and quiet. Food was very nice. The Scotch egg was especially fantastic, and wonderfully presented - highly recommend it! Champagne cocktails are delicious.
Fabulous food and excellent service. Consistently good and we will be back!
Met up for our Christmas get together for the 3rd year, and were not disappointed yet again.
Outstanding food and they were extremely accommodating. The sommelier- Lowri is terrific and really knows her stuff- suggested a cab -14 hands - unbelievable
I think it’s a fantastic place to eat and drink - unassuming
All very good except the choice of desserts was slightly limited.
We have been many times before and although this was a busy Saturday night the service was quite slow. Outstanding food as always. Will definitely be back.
Magnificent gastropub steeped in history and showcasing the finest of British cuisine.
I took my aunt here for her birthday and we both opted for the 5 course Christmas tasting menu which was delicious and well paced. Each dish was presented beautifully and managed to strike a perfect balance between elegance and indulgence.
Service was professional and attentive with a personal touch. I would particularly like to commend sommelier Lowri on her enthusiasm and knowledge of wine and the affable manner in which she engaged with us at the table whilst serving.
The atmosphere is very cosy with gentle lighting, wood panelled walls etc. It wasn’t a cheap meal, however you certainly get what you pay for.
Absolutely fantastic. The waiter Jack was amazing. Very funny man who had absolutely the right level of interaction. I cant thank him enough, he made us feel special. Amaxing cocktails. A very pretty location. We were made to feel very welcome. I cant wait to go back again.
Incredible food and amazing staff! 10/10 would go back!
