The Highwood Ratings and Reviews
The food was delicious but they ran out of the lamb which we hoped to order. Our server was confused and did not know details of the meals. Fortunately we remembered to ask to about soup and specials or we would not have been told. Server tried her best to check things with chef and did get our order correct but we had to wait quite a while to order and then to get our food. There is construction around the restaurant at present which makes the entrance way unpleasant. Sometimes t is very obvious that the servers are chefs not servers...this was one of those times. Not the end of the world but just a new experience. Love this restaurant but one can never expect everything to be perfect. ..especially service.
Had dinner at The Highwood before a show at the Jubliee and what a perfect way to start the evening. Ross and Patricia were friendly, personable, and were every bit as amazing as the food that evening. We had the theatre menu that night as we only had a hour before the show but we can't wait to come back for the full experience.
Everyone was pleased with their food selections. Great assortment of breads to try. However, the menus and bread were a bit slow at arriving as we sat around waiting for that and our drinks to arrive. It wasn't that busy so not sure if it was these students' first night.
Also, they need a sign at the top of the stairs to indicate where to get your free parking pass so you don't wander all the way in.
I love the ambiance and have never had a bad meal. Really enjoy trying the different dishes especially the buffet. Most of the time the service is awesome but on occasion you can tell the server is a bit nervous but we try to give them positive feedback. Great job.
The Highwood is a training ground for our future culinary stars. I have always enjoyed my experience there as I appreciate that the restaurant business is demanding and the students have chosen to learn the proper way. Our server Tom was very helpful and met my expectations. We were a table of 5 at a table of 8, and the SAIT team was able to find a alternate arrangement fort a more intimate setting. The 5 course was great, with lots of good flavours and excellent presentation. Well done!
We celebrated our daughters birthday dinner at SAIT and were all very happy with the service and food. Our daughter in law is severely dairy allergic and our waitress Tingting was fabulous in making sure that everything she ordered was ok! We’ve always had great experiences and plan on coming back!
The food was delicious, presentation perfect. The service is a little slow because the students are learning so you have to be patient. It took us 2.5 hours to eat our 5 course meal which was fine. Don't go there if you are in a hurry!
The appetizers where delicious, lamb was amazing and the butternut squash soup was very tasty.
I will definitely go back.
An excellent repeat visit to the Highwood. Their supervised student prepared food is the best gourmet dining available in Calgary. We look forward to our next visit.
The only disappointment was the student servers whose English was not fluent enough for them to understand our questions. In the past we have enjoyed learning about the educational pursuits of the servers.
Went to the Highwood for my Dad’s birthday dinner. I wasn’t expecting much, but it was phenomenal! Food was delicious and creatively unique. My only critique would be, although our server was great, the students need to be confident in their abilities! And more smiles!!
Our first time dining in your restaurant, we felt warmly welcomed by students. They have a very professional appearance and hold themselves to a high standard both in the kitchen l, behind the bar, and the entire service line.
Wonderful presentation and a delicious blending of flavours. Each dish was a delightful experience.
My family and I thank you for allowing us to join you on your journey.
12 of us at the table. We were there for the food and conversation with friends, both of which were fantastic. 5 courses of the most delicious and adventurous food combinations were enjoyed by everyone. No one had exactly the same meal. It made for some interesting partner bartering and sharing. Also we could hear each other with out shouting which made the event even more enjoyable. The Highwood is so fantastic, I do not know a restaurant in Calgary I could get as good a meal and service at.
The food and the service was outstanding. I would rate The Highwood as one of the top fine dining restaurants in the city. We highly recommend the Highwood to our friends to dine there.
You would never know that it was students opposed to professional chefs creating these Amazing dishes
This was our first visit to the your restaurant. We had an interesting experience.
The atmosphere was comfortable and fine.
We were aware that this is a learning experience for all. The male hostess and female server were a little nervous but did well.
The food was tasty over all and interesting, although we found the portions very small.
The endive and fennel salad did not have any fennel. I mentioned this to the waitress who only came back to tell me that she had mentioned it to the kitchen.
The romaine salad/ deconstructed Cesar salad came with fish which was not written on the menu.
The steak was ordered as" on the rarer side of medium rare" but was served blue.
Only wanting this review to be of help to you.
All the best.
Will probably return sometime but not sure about recommending it to others. They would have to come with an open mind.
This was a wonderful experience for our family. We all enjoyed our drinks, food, and the hospitality ladies that were there for us. The one thing that I really was impressed with was that the staff took it very serious when I explained about my anaphylaxis to shell fish. Also, that my daughter-in-law had allergies to gluten, milk, and soy, and that they would have to check even the oils that the food was cooked in. Even Ross came over to assure us that all would be taken care of. Now, that’s the way all restaurants should deal with this type of situation. Thank you so much for making our time at the Highwood so awesome.
I have been going to the Highwood Dining room for many years, and especially friend's brithdays. This time I was disappointed in the main dishes. I appreciate the effort the students have placed in providing this Christmas luncheon. The majority of the dishes were cold. The soups were hot, and the special cranberry-apple pudding was delightful. I will return again, but if the main dishes are cold, I have other options. In summary, we have always enjoyed the quality of food served over 15 years and we especially enjoy talking to the students. I do hope they review the surveys. Happy Holidays to all and enjoy the break to be with friends and family
I book the Thursday Brunch almost monthly! I usually take people that have never been there before or for special occasions. It is very impressive to take someone to - truly amazing. The food is absolutely delicious! Very creative and appealing. I recommend The Highwood Restaurant to everyone - you will definitely want to go again!
The one disadvantage is the stairs going up to the dining room. Due to renovations the regular elevator is not available. I suggest that there is a buzzer to get someone to come down and take the elevator in the back way. Temporarily until renos are done. This method could be used for those in a walker or wheelchair too. If you have to go out to put your parking ticket ($7 a great deal) in your car, then that is 2 trips to go up again.
