The Hermitage Inn Ratings and Reviews
We had a delightful meal at the Hermitage Inn. We ate at the pub because we liked the menu. We were not disappointed. I had the special beef stew and it was delicious. My husband had the pork schnitzel and loved it. Th pub is a bit louder and more energetic than the fine dining room. I lt is best for large groups, children or casual dining.
Beautiful room, very uneven service and an odd menu. We were told that they had put us down for the(crowded and noisy)pub, which seemed strange since we were never offered that option, and chose the dining room, which we believed we had reserved.
Entree offerings were a strange assortment. Only about half the choices seemed appropriate for the setting, and the rest, two pasta dishes, fried chicken with mashed potatoes, and lobster in the shell, either too downscale or too messy for fine dining.
We had a wait of almost an hour between a few oysters and our appetizers, one of which was not what we ordered (from an old menu). We also had to ask to be served bread, but they did comp the appetizers. The dessert we chose was sold out.
Excellent dining experience.....well down well served well paced. For myself,I would have liked a few items to chose from that were suited for tender stomach...soup,fit,plain veggies, mashed pot.....I know that you are not running a nursing home, but I had some difficulty at all meals with such a "set" menu. My husband was in heaven with his meals. Delightful surroundings, great service, great rooms...next time, I'll pack some crackers and bland stuff. Also, a few items in gift store would be great,I.e., mints, lifesavers, drinks, soap, toothpaste, aspirin,,postcards. No soap or toothpaste. Lovely!
The Hermitage Inn is our favorite place to go in the Mount Snow area. My only criticism would be that the menu could be more extensive. Only 5 main dishes is limiting, especially when you don't eat pork or shellfish. And perhaps you do rotate your menu, but I chose the quail (which is delicious) on this most recent visit -- which was exactly what I had back in February when I last visited. Otherwise, the quality of the food, service, amiance is excellent.
Everything was perfect! The formal dining room was elegant without being stuffy. The menu was limited but included something for everyone. The food was amazing. I had the Maine Halibut and my companion had the Double Smoked Pork Chop. Both meals were supurb. Prices were high but for the food quality and ambiance of the Inn, well worth it. Great place to come for a special occasion. Excellent service and very friendly staff. I will look forward to eating in the less-formal Pub on my next visit! Be sure to visit the hugh bottle wine cellar. It's very impressive!
All in all a pleasant experience. My husband & I met another couple for dinner, without kids. They tried to put us in the noisier more casual front room, but we persisted on a table in the more formal back room, and they did get us in there. I guess you need to straighten out those requests when u make your reservation. Wine list was great, service lovely. Menu lind of limited, no specials were offered, and although we arrived at 5:45 they were already " out" of the shortribs. Also pricing is kind of arbitrary; $46 for a sirloin steak is ridiculous. I wouldn't even pay that for a filet! But the ambiance was nice, service very good & we all enjoyed the evening. I recommend the Vermont cheese sampler & pineapple upside down cake!
A top notch restaurant in a town sorely lacking good choices. Food is better than that found at many restaurants at more notable ski towns. High quality ingredients and preparation served by a courteous and efficient staff. Seafood and grits should not be missed. It is terrific!
Warm country inn feel. Relaxed after skiing time. Steak and lobster were great. Short ribs really were more pot roast than ribs. Wine very nice. Would come again. However the night we dined there was a very busy occasion so service seemed quite slow. Our 11 year old felt very comfortable there.
We planned to have a nice branch on New Years and were disappointed. Our expectations were too high based on good comments of other patrons. Food selection was pretty limited and uninteresting. Probably our experience was not typical bc of the day but service was quite poor, not competent and aloof. We will try to come back for a dinner and hopefully have a better luck with food and service.
My husband and I stayed at the Hermitage and were impressed by the Inn itself as well as the fine dining. It was a very romantic weekend getaway. The room was clean and inviting. A made-to-order breakfast was included each morning that was delicious. All of the items that we chose for dinner were excellent and we were even served a complimentary taste of a wonderful tamari tartare.
The service was outstanding. The menue was limited so onewould expect it to be outstanding. Both the lobster dish and the pheasent were bland at best. with small portions. The stop at the bar afterwards helped to ease the disapointment. Would recomend the bar for after dinner drinks as long as the dinner was somewhere else.
My husband and I spent the weekend in Vermont. We made reservations for the wine tasting and dinner. The wine tasting was great, the hostess was friendly and outgoing. The dinner was wonderful and the service was amazing. We did not stay there this time but next year we will be that is for sure!
