We find the food is consistently good and the dining room has very pleasant ambiance with excellent service. One does not feel rushed.

When perusing 'Best Restaurants near Mount Snow' search results on a popular internet search mechanism, I stumbled across the Hermitage Inn and was immediately drawn to investigate further given the images of some rather sumptuous-looking dishes. However, I was disappointed to find that many of the available reviews were highly critical, nay, down-right slanderous in regard to quality of dining experience that you could expect if you were to visit this fine establishment. HOW WRONG THEY WERE!!!

Two friends and I visited the Hermitage Inn on an icy Saturday evening in celebration of one of their birthday's. Having been shown to our seats in the incredibly cozy bar area we were greeted by our waitress, Sarah. After a brief ID-checking interlude we were underway with some Aperitifs - PLEASE NOTE: The Hermitage Inn is the ONLY location in the whole of Vermont, perhaps even the United States of America, where one can enjoy an Aperol Spritz. This restaurant is worth a visit on that accolade alone.

BUT IT GETS BETTER. The food was simply exquisite; the appetizers were delicious (ribs coated in a sticky sauce (think Asian-fusion-meets-Mom's-Secret-Recipe), accompanied by a sensational plate of ribs. For entrees I had the duck breast, my friends had the salmon and the steak frites. All were exceptionally good and a head and shoulders above the other nearby restaurants fare (and by gosh did we sample some fare over the course of our vacation).

The only real slight to the entire experience was a brief 5 minute period where a child in the corner had a screaming fit that it's mother couldn't handle. Much drama ensued. I suppose, though, this is to be expected given this place has the type of clientele were the annual ski holiday provides the only 4 days a year out of the remaining 361 days were the children are actually with their parents, not the au pair!

All in all, a 10 out of 10 for service, a 10 out of 10 for the food and drink - a wonderful gem in the Green Mountains.

The food they have in stock is delicious - the problem is that both times we visited on a holiday weekend - they were out of several items on the menu - at a dinner they were out of two of the main entrees and one of the appetizers, the bottle of wine we ordered -and somehow - olives (for martinis). At breakfast they were out of eggs benedict and sausage and were out of coffee - which took 10 minutes to brew a new batch. It is mind boggling that on a holiday weekend when they knew they would be busy - they were out of these.

This was a true find in the area. The inn is a beautifully redone old home. There is a bar area that looked like a lot of fun and was very busy the night we were there. We ate in the main dining room which was much quieter and suited our family. The food was wonderful and large portions. I highly suggest the cheese plate!

We have been having Christmas dinner at the Hermitage for 30 years. Since the new owner took over we have seen a gradual decline in food and service. This year was awful!
Firstly when you walk in it used to be filled with Christmas decorations. No more. It could have been June it would look the same. They seated a party without a reservation at our reserved table and then told us we had to wait so they could spread out the pace of orders coming into the kitchen.
Once we were seated we waited a good amount of time for our server to make herself known. Finally we ordered. When the first course came out it was served to the wrong people at our table. We passed the food so everyone got what they ordered Second course was handled the same way.
The food was terrible. My chicken was over cooked and dried out. My wife’s was over salted and inedible. The wine list was very weak. My sons first choice of entree was not available. We had a 7 PM reservation.
Congratulations Hermitage, this was definitely our worst meal of 2017 AND you have destroyed what used to be a really nice tradition of spending Christmas dinner with you.
It’s very sad what has happened to this restaurant.

The food was generally good though some of the entries arrived undercooked. The service was decent, but the place is not very kid friendly. So, net net it’s good for one time but we’re unlikely to repeat.

Food was very mediocre. My wife and I had the Noodle soup , she with shrimp my self with chicken Had zero flavor in need of some salt . They added chairs in the bar area that whole cozy not meant for dining, I sunk so far in the chair that my dish was level with my face . This was a favorite but not sure I would return

The Hermitage is a restaurant I have frequented since a child. Our second home was in Vermont and my parents used to love this restaurant. The restaurant holds a special place in my memory. I took my boyfriend to The Hermitage on a Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary and I hyped up the restaurant to what I remember of it from years past. It's definitely under new management & ownership. Our server was fantastic but the rest of the staff was disconnected. The duck is why I wanted to go back but it didn't hold up to it's past recipe or what I remember it being. The crispy pork belly was great. My boyfriends spare ribs were great too. Cozy atmosphere but, I think it's lost it's charm and character.

The place is great. You can get fine dining or pub fare in a roomy comfortable chairs next to a fireplace. If you need to adjust the menu to more of your liking they will without hesitation.
The service usually is very good but not last time.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at The Hermitage-super comfortable seating by the fire, attentive and nice servers and delicious food. Overall a lovely evening. And if you want a more relaxed meal, the tap room/tavern looked very inviting!
