The Heritage is one of the many classroom/laboratory facilities operated by the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education at Grand Rapids Community College. The restaurant is staffed by students in the culinary programs and is under the direct supervision of Chef and Dining Room Professors.

During lunch, your meal will be prepared and served by first year students. The meals represent International Cuisine with modern and classical touches. In the evening, The Heritage reopens to feature a relaxed atmosphere, more Continental Cuisine, and our second year students will serve and prepare your meal.

The Secchia Institute for Culinary Education restaurants and kitchens are classroom settings. We take pride in them. Our students prepare our meals daily with the finest seasonally available ingredients including freshly baked artisan bread.

Always interesting foods well prepared and served by culinary students. A great place to go for a more reasonably priced fancy meal. Nice for a non-rushed leisurely meal, but not a place to go if you want in and out fast. Enjoy the experience!

The incredibly professional staff made for a wonderful first-time experience. It definitely was a great pleasure all around; the food, service and ambiance were all superb. Tom, Lisa & Neil have a remarkable future ahead of them. Chef Dunn deserves kudos, too.

Our server Gabe did an excellent job answering questions about the menu, and responding to the needs of my colleague with food allergies - above and beyond what I would have expected. The food was great - and there was plenty of it without being a food trough. The quality of the food and the serving was SPECTACULAR. We expected a few hiccups because students are learning, but there were fewer than expected. Friendliness and responsive!!!!

Finally, I have to give kudos for the cherry dessert. I felt like I'd transported to Leelanau County and was able to eat every single kind of cherry delight invented. Yumm!

This is such a nice hidden gem in Grand Rapids. More people need to know about Heritage Restaurant. It was a great to talk with all the students and learn about their career paths. They all were so varied. These students are not just learning how to slap a steak on a grill. This is world class food they are designing and creating themselves. It was very impressive. Everyone should get down to the Heritage at GRCC!

Absolutely loved our Heritage Restaurant experience! It was our first visit and my birthday. The students and teachers could not have been more welcoming, and professional. The food was wonderful and prepared in a fun presentation. I would recommend it to anyone! Our only concerns was parking. We went during the lunch serving and were not prepared to deal with a no parking available problem.

During the service, the silverware was setup and removed according to fine dining standards. In between the courses, we received sample suggestions, both appetizer/dessert, from the kitchen. The students at GRCC Secchia Center were promptly attentive during the entirety of the meal, and were readily available for any wine/cuisine-related queries.

There's a coat check available at the front of the restaurant, situated in the Technology Center at GRCC, overlooking Fountain street with an outdoor, upstairs balcony with more outdoor seating (unavailable during the winter).

It was the first day of the GRCC Culinary students working at The Heritage yesterday and the atmosphere was energetic, attentive and the food absolutely outstanding. The quality of those international dishes, the flavors and especially the presentation I dare to say you can't find easily in GR. It's fun to watch the students being exposed to customer service and guided so well by their mentors. I will be coming back with a group of friends to try the other items on the menu from Mexico, Peru and South Africa. It's fun to support a school in this way!

Two of had some grizzly and tough meat. The waitress apologized and came back and told us our bill would reduced. That was handled very well. Thank you!

The new season and its so creative menu is a fine pleasure for all senses. The students were so enthusiastically dedicated to provide excellent as well as a fun experience for the guests. Little glitches were troubleshooted quietly, quickly and efficiently. We loved the food:
I had the red snapper which was perfectly carved table-side (it was silly of me to forgot to poor the lemon-butter on the fish as the carafe was set on the table and i forgot about it - my mistake to think that the sweet potato puree was a bit too sweet), my husband had the pork which looked delicious; my appetizer (the caviar dish) was a bit heavy on the bread, Glenn's chicken heart dish was amazing (!!!), his dessert was the winner of the night (cherry savarine - the display, the taste, the composition - awesome!), my flamming apples Normandie was very good (less caramel - very sweet - and less ice cream would have been perfect). My dessert could have not been so bad as I saved it and it went with me in the banquet room after the power outage. The manager handled the situation extremely well, she stayed calm, gave good information and instructions, was very kind and helpful in this awkward tornado warning situation. We had an enjoyable hour with the students and kitchen personnel in a confined space and dark room and ended the night relieved that nobody got hurt in the process. Thanks for making such a wonderful night under such challenging circumstances. We will be back with our friends soon!

The food was an adventure for my timid palette. I would’ve appreciated some simpler choices too. But I do understand that the restaurant is part of the school cooking curriculum. I will give it another try.

Was very pleased with the experience..Loved the steak choice. If anything I would not have chosen the fried mashed potato side--ate the inside and left the fried coating...very little to no flavor on the inside. Would have preferred a garlic mashed potatoe served.

Also disappointed that the tiramisu dessert was gone by the time I ordered, but pleased with the complimentary choice.

Students did a great job and very friendly..made for an enjoyable experience.

Looking forward to next years visit.
