While we've been to the Heathman several times in the past, we left on this occasion upon hearing that the restaurant was serving rabbit on their menu. We found that inappropriate, not only because it's seems odd to serve rabbit on Easter, but more importantly because we have two adorable pet bunnies and we do not want to patronize restaurants that serve rabbit. Rabbits are extremely popular pets. We cannot imagine eating pets.
Nothing special for a special day. Wait person wasn't that busy be we seemed to be an afterthought. We had brunch but was told we were registered for the buffet, but that was ok except there was no feeling of Special for the holiday. Couple of restaurants do a much better job.
Absolutely wonderful. Everything I tried was delicious. The lamb was incredible, as was the pork chop. The creme brulee was to die for. Sad to see recurrent location closing but excited to see what they have in storage later this year!
Ate here before a concert at Schnitzer which is next door. The food was delicious and the presentation beautiful. We had more than enough time to enjoy our dinner before the show.
Had a quick lunch of house salad and risotto at The Heathman Restaurant. Sad to see that it will be changing hands/closing but was delighted to try it now.
Incredibly overpriced--both the food and the wine. Food was good but not gourmet and for that price, we expected gourmet!
We enjoyed the Dining Month menu. In particular, the stuffed rabbit was wonderful and not something I would make at home. The 'regular' menu is quite expensive, and we would not normally go here for dinner. It was nice to be able to enjoy the restaurant through the dining month program.
The only downside is that the dining month menu has no choices within courses. Many restaurants give you a choice of two or more options for each course. If you don't like what is included and you don't want to spend a small fortune, you are SOL.
I ordered the wine pairing for the menu ($15). The Chardonnay was fine. The red, I don't recall the variety, was quite unique and memorable. Worth trying.
Sadly our last visit prior to their pending move. Fishermen's Stew and Chicken dishes hit their mark. We look forward to finding them in their new (as yet undisclosed) location.
We were surprised to learn that Heathman Restaurant had a vegan tasting menu, but decided to give it a try. Not only were all 6 courses a visual treat, but they were distinctively different in texture, flavor, and style. Not only that, but the meal was nutritionally complete with ample protein! Chef Matthew even came out to ask how we liked our dinner, which was an added treat. We loved our experience, but are sad to learn that Heathman Restaurant is closing. Too bad we found out about this gem too late.
I had a window seat overlooking the street, where a running race was taking place on a rainy morning. My server was appropriately attentive, keeping me supplied with coffee and water. the eggs benedict were perfectly cooked, the hollandaise sauce was exquisite. A perfect way to start my Sunday.
Our food was very slow in coming. In fact I asked the Bus Boy to check our order as we were going to the sym. He, not the waiter brought our dinner out to us. I never got the coffee I ordered with the meal.
Unfortunately, this restaurant with the current management and chef, is closing at the end of this March. We have often eaten wonderful small dinners and teas in the tea room with it lovely fireplace and comfy chairs. And adored the affordable wonderful food. This week we dined during dining month and chose the prix fixe dinner, with wine accompaniment, no regrets.
The delicate first taste was minute but was presented as an amuse bouche and it was amusingly tongue lovely. My husband wished it was the appetizer, but then loved the salad of a variety of small tastes of smoked and brined seafoods. Delish. And so was the main course, rolls of rabbit in a wonderful sauce and chewy bites of button mushrooms. And a generous and tasty dessert, good coffee. The wine pours were not generous but interesting and of course, well matched to dinner. Nonetheless, I think if I went again, I would rather select my own glass of wine. Service was gracious, and to my delight, gave us plenty of time for each course, there was no pressure to hurry through and out. I liked the leisure, AND there was no loud music and raucous conversants so we could HEAR EACH OTHER, a rare treat in Portland. If you want a delightful dinner during this 2016 dining month, and before Heathman closes the doors of this restaurant, make a reservation.
The food was excellent, but the menu had a few too many recipes with tomatoes and onions for my wife's taste. We had a great waiter, who offeted some wonderful suggestions. We had the prefix menu with the rabbit which was delicious. We will definately go to this restaurant again.
All six of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. One of the ladies ordered eggs, potatoes, toast and ham, she first asked if it was thin or thick ham, they were not kidding it was totally thick and delicious. The coffee and latte's were delish. My only issue was that the tables were so close together that the wait staff could not move easily around to deliver your food and new guests arriving had difficulty reaching their table.
Slow service. Took nearly 30 minutes to receive the bottle of wine we ordered. Food service was slow as well The sever apologized for the slow service but never explained why. The website indicated that they were famous for their salmon hash (which we used to order years ago) but it is no longer available in the evening. In all, we were VERY disappointed.
An experience why we go out for dinner. The food and service was excellent and something we couldn't replicate at home.
The food was outstanding, especially the desserts. But there was a large gap between serving the entree and inquiry about dessert, and an even larger gap between ordering dessert and getting it, and don't even ask about the gap between dessert and getting the bill! Always tasty, always slow
Slightly confused about the fate of The Heathman Restaurant, we decided to go to brunch before it was too late. As usual the service was great and the food was wonderful. There were 8 of us and a variety of orders, all of which tasted great.
It is always an occasion when you dine at Heathman, because between the elegant ambience, the impeccable service and the delectable food, your experience is always special.
My husband and I found the wine list impressive. We shared the delicious house salad and enjoyed the seafood stew and rack of lamb. Both the food and the service were impressive. We always enjoy the Heathman for special occasions, but the atmosphere and menu are just right for any occasion!
Convenient location next to the Symphony. Valet parking made getting in and out very a breeze. We were promptly seated at our reserved time. The menu did not have too many selections, but what they had was very good. Also the menu changed daily, so you won't know whats available until you arrive. The service was good. We had to come in for dinner before they move to a new location at the end of the month.
This well appointed restaurant is full of charm. We were visiting for the weekend and wanted to go here as we've enjoyed brunch at The Heathman in Seattle.
If you like tea, it is served beautifully.
The omelette, Salmon Hash and Corned Beef Hash were tasty. The food could have been hotter.
The biscuits and gravy with pulled pork was just okay. The biscuits were tough.
While there we sat beside a lady who came in with her daughter. She shared with us that it was a special visit they made regularly. The staff greeted her and her daughter like an old friend and knew all their favourites. We had the same server as they did. She was absolutely delightful.
5 Stars across the board. I love The Heathman! I am so sorry to hear that it is closing. I've been eating at The Heathman, served by Christian, for many years. It is a Portland landmark that will leave a void in the cityscape.
One of the best brunches in Portland.
We love the Heathman. It has a uniques menu with a fine wine list. What makes the Heathman is the staff. Our waiter, David, was excellent.
We had dinner at The Heathman just prior to a concert next door to the restaurant. The place was packed, due to the concert, but our order was handled quickly and correctly. My husband had a double cut bone-in pork chop which he said was superb, and I had a dish featuring ling cod and the cheeks which was absolutely delicious. We have also had several lovely brunches at The Heathman and would highly recommend it.
My grand children were on best behavior. The attentive staff had a lot to do with that
While the server was good and knew the menu, the time to get our food was too long. $11 for a shot of whisky and the Johnny Walker Black is not even as good as Dewars White Label. For $32 I got 3 scallops. They were good but not worth it. It was too loud for a romantic dinner. We ate our dinner and made tracks for Trader Vic's. Expensive with miniscule portions. A place for people who want to act like they just won the Powerball. 1/23/16
Enjoyed the Pre-Theatre Menu on a Saturday Eve. Selected because the pasta dish had crab and Manila Clams in it. A clam also came with some sand, I give the kitchen a demerit for that, otherwise, the salad and desert excelled. Service was top notch, and attentive, even with a busy night.
Great wine list. Some really attractive prices on some stellar ages wines. Very comfortable evening. The staff was will to adjust to the pace we preferred. Great personal service. A must.

It was a wonderful meal and particularly helpful to be so close to downtown events (we went to the Schnitzer ). I never would have believed cauliflower soup could be so esquisit! The carrot risotto was heavenly!
Had both dinner and power breakfast the next morning at the Heathman. It remains the standard-bearer for not only hotel restaurants but all restaurants in the Portland area.
We stopped going to Heathman for a while and recently tried after a year hiatus. Both times delivered exceptionally, from the waitstaff to the food to ambiance. Would highly recommend for a nice but comfortable atmosphere, great food (don't pass up the Marionberry Ramos Fizz for brunch) and festive setting.
Dinner was delicious but we had to ask for more water and iced tea . The main dining room is a bit noisy.
Our family made reservations to celebrate before son's performance at Arlene Schnitzer Concert hall next door. The food was o.k., not equitable to price. The bus boy filled my water glass with tap water when it had Pelligrino in it. He was told & just replied Woops! The service was rather inattentive, and the waiter brought us the check before even bringing the dessert included in one of the diner's order. He had totally forgotten. We all stood waiting for some help to get our coats - no one notice for awhile. We had never been given the check out tag for them. We were directed by another employee, possibly mgr, since in black shirt & pants, not waiter dress, to the front reservation counter. They needed the ticket for our coats, which the waiter then brought to them. The food was not above average, prime rib little tough. I would not recommend this restaurant, nor make a repeat visit.
The pork, biscuits, and gravy is really great when the biscuits are right out of the oven!
Great service, ribs were a disappointment. The bar was empty but we enjoyed the band and had a good time.
My guests and I did not like the table location. Far too noisy and impersonal. We were expecting to be seated in the traditional hotel restaurant. When the reservations are made, AT LEAST let use know where the table will be located, so we can choose whether or not to accept.
