First of all, I am Scottish, so biased in favour
of such an establishment. I'm very glad they have PG tips, a smooth black tea. So far only here at brunch.
The porridge was lovely but could have had a few more blueberries for the $8 price.
In the past I've had the quiche which suffered from a somewhat soggy crust, so we skipped that option. The poached pear & sorbet was super, albeit a oversweeted fruit sauce. The Scotch egg a wee bit over cooked but with great sausage flavor. I've been here before & shall return
We went for brunch. Great food and fun, casual ambiance. The decor is eclectic. I've eaten here for dinner before, too, and it was also delicious.
Really good cooking but it was expensive. Vegetables perfect! Noise level was fine but was probably negatively impacted by our giddy table. Service was what you expect at a pub, but not what I expected for those prices. But to be fair, a good portion of the tab was pricey scotch, which, after all is said and done, was the whole object of visiting The Haven! Would gladly dine there again.
My kind of scene. Great food, great people. Our waitress was very nice and on top of things. She had great recommendations for drinks. We will be back to try brunch!
We tried this on interest of trying something different. I would recommend to a friend to try but prepare them for the wait and cost.... Food was interesting. Savory - Full Scotch Breakfast was filling, tattie scones worth a trip, delicious marmalade and bread, Scotch Egg wrapped in grilled sausage. Glad we went. But service was slow in a 50% full dinning area at 11:45am seated; we didn't get food until 50 minutes later. Hot coffee refill for my husband on 1/2 a cup was an added $3. $6 for standard coffee seemed excessive. Staff was nice and friendly. Table was really sticky..... the napkins stuck to the tabletop... Would I go back again ? Mehhh.... Maybe this comment will help improve.
As soon as we walked in we felt like we were back in Edinburgh. The ambiance is EXACTLY like any small tavern in Scotland. I was happy to have Edinburgh Gin and tonic as well as Thistly Cross. The guys all had a few harder to find scotch varieties (Tobermory, I love you but oh the peet!!) Haggis was more traditional and liver-heavy but good. Cullin Skink was SPOT ON. The Salmon was delicious as were the veggies. I had to have a deep fried Mars Bar, it's a thicker batter than I've had but ohhh ig was yummy. The only downside, and it was no issue to us AT ALL, is that it is small and quarters seemed to be too close for some other people's tastes but truly it's part of the experience. We (party of 3) were at a large table with a wrap around bench that could seat 8-10? A couple came in very unhappy to have to share a table, even with multiple empty seats in between. Seemed a bit silly to me. Its cozy, food is so warm and comforting, staff was grand. We will be back!!!
Wonderful restaurant for Scottish food and drink. Such a relief fro the glass and chrome open kitchen concept. Dining as it should continue to be. The Havn has no pretenses. It's Scottish food, basic, and delicious. No pretense here. What you read is what you get. Enjoy.
My dad’s from Scotland but hadn’t had Scottish food since coming to the US. I brought him here for a birthday lunch and he loved it! The server we had was great, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was really cool. Took some Shepherds Pie to go and he was raving about how good it was for hours. Won’t find Scottish food anywhere else in Mass!
My husband and I loved the entire experience. The atmosphere was awesome, food was delicious and authentic and the service was spot on. We honestly cannot wait to return.
Visit for an experience of Scottish food and drink. Great desserts! Pleasant service, not rushed. Reservations accepted. Servings are large. Big selection of scotches.
The Haven is as cozy as it gets - great food, great service, lovely ambiance - had a great time at our recent visit! :-)
Food was okay, but underwhelming. Also, nothing like what you would actually get in Scotland, but then again we are in Boston.
Nice Scottish pub in Boston. I don't know of another restaurant that serves Cullen Skink (and it is very good)! Also enjoyed the Fish Dinner (fish unusual, but quickly decided it was a flavor combo that works. I would recommend visiting The Haven if you happen to be in the Jamaica Plain / Mission Hill area. (& of course you need a Scottish ale to wash it down).
The food and service were fantastic, as usual. We always feel welcome there.
This place is a treat for those craving a good Scottish meal, which is hard to find around these parts. They have a great selection of drinks. My wife loves Thistley Cross Cider and this is the only place we found it. The Cullen Skink was 👌 5/5 delicious! I can't wait to come back for whisky tasting .
Food was outstanding. Table service was great and enthusiastic. What was weird was the host kept staring at us, made me feel like I want really welcomed.
The Haven offers a unique and authentic experience. They’ve got the Scotches and dark beers and a kitchen to match. *
Our party of 4 had a wonderful evening out at the Haven! The food was excellent, the service top, and the specialty beers and drinks were delicious and fun. We picked the Haven for dinner after seeing it on Chronicle. Definitely 5 stars!
The Haven is always a nice experience with delicious food and drink. One of my all time favorite places to go.
A favorite spot in J P for lunch and dinner. This dinner visit was made perfect by the reservation system. We arrived on time and our table (the last one vacant) was waiting for us. The noise level was a bit high, but manageable even for this octogenarian.
A group of us meet on the same day, every year, at the Haven since 2011 and the great food , service and atmosphere has never wavered. I wish I lived closer so I could go there more often.
Love the place. Unique food. Great cocktails.
We had the tasting menu. The food and service were outstanding.
Excellent food, great service, amazing selection of beer and scotch.
Family get together on New Years Day, great food, attentive staff and overall a good time.
Although not local for us I am sure we will return and enjoy the food and drinks all over again.
Whoever made the restaurant playlist is awesome; chill vibes for a nice New Year’s brunch with friends. I was sad the porridge wasn’t available (it’s SO DELICIOUS), but to be fair it’s typically a Sat/Sun only option, New Year’s Day happened to fall on a Tuesday this year and a good portion of the brunch options were still available for us to enjoy. I’m a huge fan of the Bonnie Paloma - had 3, almost got another.
Great food at a pretty reasonable price. Excellent selection of cocktails, nice cozy atmosphere
Please have waitstaff write down orders or do it digitally (via wireless) when taking the order. Our waitperson missed one dish which then was late to the table of 6. However, food was very good. Will come back!
We had a marvelous experience at the Haven. The staff was very accommodating, the food was outstanding and the ambiance was lovely. We chose the Haven to celebrate our 30th anniversary and we will definitely be back.
Great food, great beers. Favorite neighborhood spot.
Great waitress, wonderful drinks selection, and shepherds pie to die for
There isn't anywhere else you should eat fish & chips -- this is an amazingly good piece of fish (and very large) woderful cooked and paired with fries that must have been an intact potato at the time you placed your order. Pair that with a broad list of beers you won't find anywhere else and a scotch whiskey list that is remarkable for things you haven't yet discovered and you can't go wrong. Other items on the menu are great (especially the lamb shanks, when available) so everyone can be happy.
Service was excellent. Food as very good. An enjoyable evening
Go to The Haven on a cold winter night! The hot food and the neighborhood pub atmosphere will warm you right up. My husband is 75 and rather hard of hearing, and although the restaurant was full and a bit loud, my husband had no trouble. We noted the clientele included young and old, gay and straight, buttoned up and go-with-the-flow. I loved the cauliflower soup with deep fried chickpeas, as well as the Shepherd's Pie. Cozy, comfortable atmosphere that almost makes you feel like haggis is a normal dining option. The owner was helpful when there was a slight problem with our reservation and the waitstaff was friendly. We will be back.
Always a great time at the Haven - and their brunch is particularly delicious! Excellent, friendly service, great food, great drinks, cosy atmosphere - what more could one want?
Catching up with an old friend, business lunch. Tried a few very interesting and delicious beers, cocktail and explored their lunch menu.
The beet cured smoked salmon was amazing.
Smoked whitefish, leak and potato soup was an amazing take on something that resembled chowder. It was Hearty, thoughtful and filled my soul and stomach.
Burger.. awesomesauce! Cook to perfection, balanced, dripping juices.
Great recommendations and understanding of the menu by the bartender and server.
I’m a pretty tough critic when it comes to restaurants, I will visit here again and it’s worth the drive!
Authentic in it’s presentation of a Scottish pub.
Don't know why I hadn't been there sooner! Everything was great. Will return in near future to try something more daring to eat.
I had been coming to The Haven frequently when I lived in the area but hadn't been back in some time. I'm happy to report that it is even better than I remember it!
