The Haven is nicely set up for groups. As a couple, however, we were placed at a high shelf with stools overlooking the street. The restaurant was busy and the service was friendly, but inattentive.

Food was very good, but not close to the "mind blowing" that some other reviews have implied. I give 4 stars for food based on the entrees. The pear-ginger cobbler was such a train wreck we almost sent it back. It was incredibly dry. I detected no ginger and the dish was in dire need of added sugar. (This coming from someone who thinks most desserts are over-sweetened.)

Overall the Haven was well worth a visit, and I will probably return at some point to try some of their other dishes. I'm just not as enthusiastic as I was hoping to be.

The food was essentially Scottish comfort food which was welcome on the cold night we visited. My meal was simple but delicious as was what I tried of my girlfriends. The beer selection was pricey but high quality and unique. Be sure to try the Scottish Deviled Egg!

Scotch deviled egg was delicious, cocktails were good, entrees were not incredible and dessert was fantastic although visually not the most appealing.

I was hoping for more flavorful, more robust, and it struck me as unnecessarily bland.

Place was packed, quite noisy, but not sure I would return or recommend.

Stopped in after being by Angell, just wanted a neato lunch place. We liked the fact that it is unique Scottish food, but we spent $86 on lunch and that shocked us. The drinks are WAY overpriced.

Cozy, appealing atmosphere with good food and wonderful service=attentive but not hovering. A bit noisy and tables close together but acceptable for the size of the room.. Would definitely go there again!

I really like the ambiance and the originality of this restaurant. I would like to make this my new brunch spot, but the service needs to be improved. The servers were friendly and courteous, but I had to ask multiple times for water and coffee refills. We waited more than 20 minutes to order and then waited about 45 minutes for food. The food was definitely freshly made!

Great fun and wonderful food. The salmon was the best around and all the casseroles were flavorful. The tables are close together in a small space which adds to the friendly atmosphere but it can be difficult to hear. A very welcoming pub, of course, it does help if you are wearing a kilt! We can't wait to go back!

This is what a Scottish restaurant in Scotland serves! So good to find modern Scottish cuisine outside Scotland. Atmosphere is a bit twee but perfect for being in the US. Food was great. and what a selection!

Four adults, two generations, totally happy with a super meal. Cocktails reasonably priced and deeeee-lish. Carrot something sale was super.. had another appetizer (birdies??) that were also de-lush. Vegetairan entree good. Someone had salmon and loved it. I can't remember the other entrees but they were also enthusiastically received. Owner is really welcoming, service was good. Also had desert (the ice cream with flake 99 (yum!) and toffee something that was sweet and yum. I'm not fully capturing how pleasant and satisfying the whole experience was but it was great. Really lovely evening and good dinner.

Creative menu--out of the ordinary Scottish cuisine, great beer selection.
Excellent service. Defnitely make a reservation--it is a small place and they had to turn away a crowd of would be diners.

Going back again this weekend.

This was our first time in and I had heard good things so maybe we need to give it another shot. We were seated right away and a cozy table in a very cute dining room. We got our drinks right away and the variety was very good with a lot of Scottish beer to choose from. The Maggie May gin based drink was awesome. Our app arrived about 5 minutes after we started eating our entrees so that was unfortunate. I got the stuffed peppers with rice and veggies. It was overpowering with curry which was not a spice mentioned on the menu. My husband got the cockles and blood sausage stew. The cockles were cooked well but the sausage was very dry. Our server never checked to see how our meals were. If I got back it will be for drinks at the bar only.

The place was bustling and I was glad we had made an OpenTable reservation. We were seated in a great spot. Our server, Diana, was superb. We asked for her input on some choices and we were not steered wrong. The food was amazing. My daughter had the scottish deviled eggs for an app. I had the vegetarian special. My daughter's meal was delicious. We were delighted by gluten free options. We eat out alot but were struck by how well taken care of we felt, remarkably so. Our meal was capped by a fried Mars bar, scrump-tious! I can see why the line was so long to get in and why people linger over their meals at this haven. An added treat was the bagpipe/guitarist. We will be back, probably for Sunday brunch, as we hear it is quite good.

Our table was ready as soon as we got there and they were flexible about letting us choose which of the open ones we wanted. Food was all excellent, including the scotch egg, haggis, amd fish & chips (might've been the best I've had). Cozy vibe, rare Scottish beer selection, and good orices all make this place a winner.

This was our 2nd or 3rd time at the Haven. The menu is unusual for Boston; can't think of another Scottish restaurant. Fresh ingredients, unusual flavor combinations. I especially loved the minty, mushy peas that came with my light crisp fish and chips. Great beer and Scotch list as you might imagine. Funky hunting lodge decor is fun. The vibe is lively!

My cousins were up to visit and I felt the best place to go to dinner was The Haven! Our grandmother was from Scotland and the 3 of us love to visit. We feel like we are transported across the pond when intact it's only a couple miles away. I love the decor and the homey feel. The food is great and we love the selection of Scottish beer. A great experience!

Arrived from Montreal after a long drive. I was looking forward to trying this highly praised local eatery. I reserved a few weeks in advance for myself and 2 friends.
The ambiance was energetic and the drinks outstanding. Just what was needed after the drive!
All 3 of us ordered something different so we could sample each other's dishes. Everything was cooked to perfection. I can not offer a suggestion as it was all terrific.
The staff was awesome and added to the great vibe. I will definitely return.
If you are looking for a hopping bar with great eats... look no further!
Cheers!

Everything's fresh and delicious here from the oatcakes, sweet butter, and pickled fennel beginng to the sticky toffee pudding ending. In between, try any rabbit dish on the menu if its there. Otherwise, finnan haddie, cullen skink, pear and ayr cheese salad, smoked fish, fish and chips, roasted chicken are all great bets.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in JP. The food is amazing! We love to go for brunch--I especially recommend the quiche. It is always filled with different seasonal vegetables and always delicious. Dinner is great there too. You really can't go wrong with The Haven. It has a friendly, inviting environment great for groups with outstanding food. I highly recommend it.

We had a great time; even my stuffy suburban parents who can be quite annoyed when they don't like a place. Enjoyed our food; Hubs is a veggie and appreciate options beyond the ubiquitous veggie burger. The staff was great about seating my group at a large-enough table with space for a hand-sy kid. It's quiet with few people in the restaurant, then gets quite loud, so a JP kiddo who's used to going out will do fine and not annoy others.(No changing table.) Lotsa great beer options; small wine list. Rustic feeling, but clean and fresh. Street parking not an issue even during Open Studios. A new standard choice for us. James Gate wins for similar rustic space/ kiddo-love, this place kills it with better food, adult and not townie scene.

I have wanted to try this place for a while and I'm glad I did. I had the stuffed peppers and a stout. Everything was great. The food was excellent. Our server was very nice and friendly. It was a Monday night, so we lucked out getting high seats by the window. Very entertaining, many dogs walking about the neighborhood as it is right across from the MSPCA. There are many more items on the menu I want to try so I will be visiting again soon for sure. Thank you for an excellent dinner.

Brought friends to this great spot we'd visited before. Everyone enjoyed the great imported beverages. Cullen Skink chowder was a hit with our friends - commented on the lovely smoked scent. Fish and Chips had batter with perfect crunch - fries were stolen from my plate for those having the stuffed peppers and vindaloo - although they ate their meals too fast for us to snag a taste back.

This place never disappoints. The food in unique and excellent. If you like Haggis - it's super yum. If you've never had it - it's the only place to try it. But, the have a wonderful selection of food for both dinner and lunch. The bar is warm and inviting - a piece if Scotland in JP. The beers are great and they've added some cocktails to the menu which is awesome. I would certainly recommend this place to others - go, have fun, try something new and bask in Andy's wonderful Scottish accent!

The Haven has captured the very essence of every one of the "old school" Scottish homes and bars I've ever visited. The food was phenomenal and I just instantly felt like I was visiting a pub that I had been to before. The staff is friendly and it just has a casual and comfortable feel. I'll be heading back, for sure - but can imagine as the days get colder this will become a winter favorite place to seek warmth. It's great! Loved the haggis (yes, really!), bridies, scallops and pear salad. The dense bread and butter reminded me of home. :) All great.

The Haven had a great list of Scottish beers and hard ciders. We loved the Scottish Eggs. i found the white homemade sausage a bit to salty for my taste, but my husband loved his burger. The place had a cozy atmosphere just the type of inviting place one would go to on a crisp autumn weekend afternoon after a stroll around the Jamaica Pond...only thing missing would be a peat fire! Next time i will try the fried Mars bar. Loved the men in kilts.
