The Haven Ratings and Reviews
The Haven is a wonderful, authentic, homey and friendly Scottish haven from this crazy world, guaranteed to put real food prepared with care on the table, a twinkle in your eye and a spring in your step.
From your kilt-wearing host, to the jolly bartender to the helpful and happy waitresses, to the genuine Scottish fare in the menu, including haggis with neaps, vegetable bridies, creamy and rich Cullen and Skink and a smoked seafood platter with salmon, mussels and smoked haddock spread, complete with homemade oatcakes and pickles, you will not be allowed to leave hungry!
You will also not leave thirsty as the Haven has assembled the best Scottish bar menu in Boston, with great stouts (Dragonhead, etc,) and lagers and a variety of beers on taps, as well as great whiskey cocktails and other libations served in a pub atmosphere that is both charming and inviting.
They also do regular musical evenings and celebrations that have become local favorites.
So, come as you are and enjoy the hospitality of this Scottish Haven!
This is a very cozy-feeling restaurant with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. There were two of us and we had a lovely window seat, however I noticed a couple of groups (maybe 8 or 10) that they accommodated well. The menu is not huge, which I prefer, because it usually means being able to be very good at a few things, and this was true. All our food was delicious and the woman who waited on us was very friendly and helped us make some choices. It was a great place to meet up with a friend for a catch-up visit and enjoy the drinks and meal, too.
Our family went to The Haven thinking we might re-live last summer's trip to Scotland, and we were not disappointed! The service was great, the beer was great (we had Bellhaven and Innis & Gunn), and the food was great. In fact, the Cullen Skink was as good (maybe better) than what we had at the Glenfiddich distillery's restaurant.
As always, my dinner from beginning to conclusion was excellent, and it was highlighted by a brief discussion with the owner, an extremely cordial individual. The Haven is a go-to restaurant, always enjoyed by my visiting friends, who repeatedly request a return there when they visit. One out of state friend deems it the best restaurant in Boston, and it always lives up to its reputation.
Fantastic in every way. This was our first time at The Haven. There were three of us, one who knows her Scottish cuisine, the others not so much. We all were totally wowed: food, drink, service and ambiance. Excellent for quiet conversation. Amazing list of beers and ciders. This is a neighborhood place with cooking that transcends the local. We will definitely be back, the sooner the better.
This was our first trip to Haven and we will be back. Very welcoming and comfortable with a pleasant menu and a remarkably interesting and wide range of beers. The lamb shank was spectacular -- very tender, cooked slowly enough that all the tougher tissue melted and left behind flavorful meat. We happened to be there on an evening with a piper, which added to the enjoyment.
The Haven has classic Scottish dishes - some could be considered "comfort" food like burgers and fish & chips - others more "creative" like haggis and mint peas. The chef has a great touch and most are very good. My wife and I go on occasion and some dishes can be quite special. In addition there are excellent beers on draft and a very friendly staff. The only negative is that it's a bit noisy, especially on a crowded night - but certainly festive.
This, my first visit to The Haven, was a happy surprise. The menu includes enough authentic Scottish dishes to keep a scotophile happy for several visits at least, plus enough other offerings to comfort the benighted souls who can't understand why anyone would enjoy the stuff. The service was friendly and attentive. The kitchen readily accommodated my request to substitute kale for the tatties that went with my haggis and neeps.
I went to dinner with my daughter and her boyfriend. This is the second time I have been to The Haven. Both times the food was good, and the beer choices were numerous. I really enjoy the atmosphere. The dinners are priced nicely, and the staff is very friendly.
Went for dinner with my girlfriend and had a wonderful evening! Service and food (I had the haggis, my girlfriend had the salmon) were excellent, and the beer menu stayed true to the restaurant's Scottish roots. Very vibrant and fun atmosphere. Would definitely visit again!
