The Hat was one of my favourite restaurants in the city, known for the burgers. The one I had recently did not remind me of those times unfortunately. Still great ambiance though.
Went for lunch as part of Downtown Dining Week. Would definitely go again.
It was very busy because it's dining week. We both ordered the special which was a breaded chicken burger. It took a long time to arrive but I understand it was lunchtime and busy. When our food arrived the chicken was very dry and there was more breading than meat. There was supposed to be aioli sauce but it was barely there. I have eaten here many times and the food is usually good but yesterday it was just ok. For the price it really should be better.
Took the team for lunch and all enjoyed their meal.
Very prompt service, especially for our big group.
Our waitress was fantastic (sorry, I forgot her name but she is a very cheerful blonde lady)! We went prior to a hockey game and she gave us some tips on best food/drinks at the game. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu. Definitely would recommend for a casual night out.
Amazing service and food. The one part of Teachers convention I look forward to every year.
The service was perfect and the ambience was great, but the food could be improved. Would definitely go back for drinks.
Fantastic, Great service, waitress was great and she was the only waitress that dan
The waitresses (2 of them) seemed more interested in each other than actually serving us and the other diners. They chatted together and were on their cell phones quite a bit. Our drinks came without garnishes then the waitress just brought the garnishes over with her hands. She forgot a whole portion of my order entirely. I chose not to say anything. She came over at the end of the meal saying she realized she forgot and did I still want the rest of my order. It took forever to get a drink when we were empty although the place was pretty empty. The waitresses were very fake almost to the point of being rude. I will never go back to this place as it totally ruined our anniversary. I don’t usually write reviews but we left feeling extremely disappointed. We ate there at 530 on February 23 - Friday. The highlight of the meal would have been the calamari.
I went to the Hat as I had not been there since 1979 when it was the Silk Hat. It held fond memories of being a broke recent graduate and a promising future. Now nearing retirement, I went back to find it just as friendly and great place to eat. I won't leave it that long before I return again. Great food too.
Par food at high prices. There's definitely better to be found.
From the reservation to paying the bill, eating at The Hat was an enjoyable experience. The server's (Joanna if I remember) were fun, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. The food was great pub food- it was awesome to have tasty, non-greasy fish and chips. All the other members of the party really enjoyed their food as well. Definitely will go back to this restaurant.
Had dinner here before the hockey game. Great food and service with lots of tv’s. Typical pub food but everything was fresh and tasty and a nice collection of craft beers.
The Hat never fails to impress with their delicious burgers and fresh salads.
There was one person working, all beer taps not functioning, menu items that no longer exisit and the food took way too long as my party of 4 were 3/4 of the clientelle that night. Wont be back. I could see using this for a quick drink afterwork if you work downtown... but much better eateries around.
Met my son there for lunch and he was very happy with the choice.
Prompt and courteous service and very good meal.
The Hat is an awesome place to go. The food is great, actually a hidden gem in my opinion. The staff is friendly and easy going. This is a restaurant I will keep going
Very quite and the service was great. Food was above my expectations for a pub.
The Hat is always a great place to meet friends for lunch or drinks and a bite!
Terrible food. Friendly servers though.
I have been here multiple times with different groups of people. This time, I organized a meet-up with about 8 people. it was fantastic as usual, food, seating etc. It is bar style so not really designed for younger kids or seniors. But it is super for young professionals.
You can always count on great consistency
As always, the owner and staff are professional, brisk, and welcoming, without being presumptuous or rude, and the food and beer choices suit my tastes to a T. I enjoy this establishment and what it offers and will keep coming back.
Average food, okay service, but it was pretty quiet. Fine for a reasonably priced burger.
Have been here many times, never disappointed. Great place to meet friends for lunch.
Great service! Menu had a lot of fun items. I will say the bun for my chicken sandwich was stale. But the Chicken was great!!! Loved that you could have any salad on menu as side salad to sandwich!
Food was awesome! We were skeptical because the place was empty but we would definitely go there again.
Great historical pub, Hostess and manager's hospitality was awesome! Drinks were cold, food was very tasty, and a good time was had by all... not overly noisy like a lot of places, so easy to have good conversations!
Took my mother here while she was in town. She used to frequent "The Silk Hat" in the late 50's and I thought it would be fun. It was a slow night as we were about the only people there. Service was excellent! One hiccup was the seriously under-ripe avocado in my moms salad. It would have had to been cut with a cleaver so I'm not sure how it ended up on a plate. The manager comped a dessert for the avocado. Thank you.
I have never been here and I decided to try it out. We were going downtown to the fireworks and wanted something casual and affordable. This was so good on so many levels. Our service was great, the food was delicious and the price was so reasonable. The owner even offered to make us some free pouting for coming in. He was so welcoming to everyone and gave us a little history on it. We all agreed we would return!!
Excellent service, great ambience and diverse menu!
We were there for my birthday and the service we received was amazing I would definitely go back.
Very good food and service - would recommend - we went before a concert at Rogers Place -
Great place to have a couple drinks and some food, good location and not too busy or loud.
Not informed of a private party taking up over half the lounge, when we made the reservation or arrived.
Waited over 5mins for a server to take us to our reserved table, than took over 10minutes for her to return with menus and to take our beverage order.
When we asked another waitress for menus, she said she has a 75person group and can't help us. Very poor attitude & service.
Drink & food took way too long once ordered. Had to order multiple drinks at once in order to not let them run dry.
Food order took almost an hour to receive, but was good expect the salads.
They need to hire more wait staff!
Had the sirloin with goat cheese salad again. It was prepared well and met expectations!
Jodi is a great server and the food is always as ordered, hot and in a timely fashion.
Good fast service prior to a concert downtown. Tasty food and fairly priced drinks!
I love The Hat. And not just because it's the old Silk Hat restaurant on Jasper Avenue, with that original neon sign hanging on the wall. The food is well made (no fillers in the burgers, marinated chicken in the chicken burger) with a great selection - salads, soups and pasta too. There's a nice selection of cocktails and beers too. It's perfect for dinner before Oilers games; we go there for dinner and then walk to the game.
3 out of 4 loved their meals. 1 was a bit disappointed. They were very busy due to DDW, but seemed to handle it well.
