Near the end of finishing dinner. We were asked to leave. We were in the big party section and staff was preparing a big table next to us. Our thoughts was that they needed our table. The lady said the waiter was uncomfortable with us. I was drinking water my husband had a glass of wine. There was another party of six or more behind us who were celebrating a birthday and singing. We were not loud. It was a bad experience.
Everything was perfect! Fried oyster appetizer was a bit small but everything else was perfect!
Good food, great service. It wasn’t busy in there when we went, but the service was still excellent. It looks like it has a nice patio area for the summer time, but we were unable to check it out due to the weather. Variety of food, but could use other options, especially in the dessert section. The crepe brûlée was delicious, but the key lime pie was horrible (very dense, only tasted like plain cheesecake, no lime flavor). I would go again, but probably avoid dessert.
Nice atmosphere. Brunch was okay, I feel like I would enjoy dinner, so I will come back for that. Service was very nice as well.
Food was amazing! Bartenders fantastic. Not bad price for the quality of the food. Just a little cramped and near a large party so VERY LOUD.
We started with two soups, lobster bisque and she crab. They were both excellent and reasonably-priced. The oysters on the half shell were outstanding in taste, presentation and value. The shrimp dumplings were boring and the dipping sauce was not up to par.
The entrees, grilled lobster tail with mashed potatoes and spinach and honey ribs were both excellent. The spare rib portion was enormous. The food is delicious and the value is terrific.
There were several large groups enjoying the restaurant. It is a fun place for friends or family to gather.
The food was incredible, probably the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys seafood.
Spent an afternoon brunch with my lovely daughter. She loved her lobster omelet and I enjoyed my steak and eggs! We'll be back!
Food was great and reasonably priced. Enjoyed the oyster sampler platter and Bloody Mary. Will go back to eat out on the patio.
Delightful find in the up and coming Shockoe Slip in downtown Richmond. Reminded me a bit of my home turf in NYC - the South Street Seaport area. Lovely restaurant, excellent prices, especially for seafood. Good-sized portions and a really nice relaxing atmosphere, at least in the early evening. As the evening wore on you could tell it was getting flooded by hipsters, so I was glad I was there around 6:30-8:30pm. I'd definitely come back when I get back to Richmond.
The only complaint that we have is that our meals were not hot. They could have been sitting there a while. Everything from appetizers to our dinner was lukewarm, at best which was very disappointing. We spent close to $400 and it would’ve been a much better experience if our food would have been hot.
The Hard She'll always has good food, but it always takes forever to get food. They need to figure out how to do a one hour lunch for the business people who work nearby.
Very enjoyable evening. Food was good, people were friendly.
Great overall experience. The food was good and service was excellent.
We went at 5:00 PM on a Sunday evening, so it was quiet for us. We asked for a nice quiet spot on our Open Table reservation, but they did not seem to know this and we had to ask again. The food was delicious and the service was great! We really enjoyed our time there and look forward to going back again. Great spot!!
Our waiter was great. We ordered drinks they did not taste good so we sent them back. For our appetizer we ordered the spiced shrimp, it the shrimp has no spice—we didn’t want to wait and reorder so we ate them. Our entrees were ok but overall for money you spend the food and drinks could be better. I would not recommend this location
Service was very slow- we did not get our drinks for at least 20 minutes upon sitting down. Service was not great the entire evening - overall the food was pretty good and the oysters were awesome!
As always, the food was great. Two of us had the crab cakes, one had oysters, and one had seared tuna. All were great. The restaurant was busy, but our table was ready the moment we arrived. Our server, Pierce, was busy, but took great care of us and made an excellent wine recommendation.
We had a lovely time as we entertained out if town visitors. Everyone enjoyed their meal!
Excellent seafood. We had rhe crab cake appetizers and then the scallops/shrimp and Rockfish entrées...all were great.
Excellent..start to finish!!! Our excellent waiter, Greg, was even better....thanks for a great Valentine's Day dinner.
Great surprise for a last minute dinner in a town I had never been to before. Very high on the taste and value scale.
Great atmosphere, and even better food! The only complaint I’d have is that the crab cake appetizer was tiny! Other than that, everything was delicious.
Food was good, but I could not hear the person who was across the table. Our waiter was good but it was clear he was overwhelmed.
Very nice, friendly service. Lots of fresh choices.
My wife and I ordered the mini crab cake appetizer which had 3 mini cakes, yummy, but could have been 4 cakes for 2 people. Our entrees were very good. Only real complaint were the 2 cups of She Crab soup which were watery thin and lacked crab meat. In fact it seemed like oyster stew and not she crab soup. The few morsels of meat at the bottom was blackish/gray in color and had the texture of cut up oysters. This was for dinner but we will return for lunch sometime. Total bill for 2 was $77, no drinks other than water.
Can't wait to come back in the spring to sit on the patio! Nice place.
Wonderful dinner while in Richmond for a conference. We all enjoyed it tremendously and the food was wonderful. We will go back when in town.
This place had great reviews. Was not impressed. However, they did swap out a meal for something that was not good so I will not get into the other food we did not like due to their willingness to make us happy. The atmosphere was nice. The prices are reasonable. Maybe just an off day.
Wonderful seafood option in downtown Richmond! Food was fresh and the service was great.
Everything was great except we were in the “private” room which is where several large groups were for birthdays so it was a bit loud.
Excellent service. Great seafood!
I came for my birthday, we weren't given free bread (I saw in comments later that was included) and the place wasn't that full so not sure why that happened. The mashed potatoes were bland, but the lobster was cooked good. There were several pieces of cartilage in my crab cake, at least 8 large pieces and I stopped eating it because I got tired of taking the pieces out of my mouth after every bite. I told the waiter and he said that it was because it was fresh crab, and I told him I have had plenty of 'real' crab cakes without all that cartilage. I hope they take more time in picking through the crab meat as other restaurants do, because nobody likes eating cartilage, shell or bones. It would be strange to have a salmon cake with fish bones in them so why are they okay with serving cartilage in the crab cake? The service was quick, but I would gladly wait for better food.
They were understaffed when we were there but all employees helped out the single waiter on staff to get things done. The lobster dip was not very good (or lobstery) but everything else was very good (but I don't know if I'd go so far as to say great). We had the she crab soup - good but almost too creamy (floury) tasting, scallop appetizer (this may have been the one great selection), and the grilled lobster tail with spinach and asparagus sides.
The service was very good and friendly given their predicament, the food was very good, the manhattans were well poured. All in all, a very good experience.
It was a great night. The food and service were great!
Great dinner and wonderful service! Such a cozy atmosphere! Would definitely recommend!
The food was average. The recommended She Crab bisque was a little on the thin side. What was most disappointing is the fact that it was happy hour, there's no separation from the bar to the restaurant, and they would not honor the happy hour prices at our table. I can't say we would return, as there are better restaurants in the area.
The service overall was timely and the food was delicious. While the server was nice the only off putting thing was the server must have come up 10 times in 15-20 minutes trying to take the check, we were clearly still talking and drinking wine and told him we were good but he kept circling to the point it became laughable and awkward and my date was a little offended because it came off a bit unprofessional. Mind you I worked in restaurants for 8 years so I know how the process works but if there is no sign the check has been looked at or a card placed and waiting for a server I would tone that down as that did create a negative experience at the end of our evening. I know it seems small but in the mind of ppl that are on a date or friends night out, we don’t want to feel rushed when we are spending 70-150 depending on the occasion. That is all.
Awesome great food
Great seafood, friendly staff, cozy atmosphere on a cold night, great cocktails.
